As someone who doesn't watch TNA but is nevertheless interested in who Austin Aries is and how he seemingly came out of nowhere to become their champion, I'm interested in watching some of his best matches to get a sense of him.
(Without spending money).
Does anyone have any YouTube recommendations on this subject for me?

Watch his ROH stuff with Punk and Joe specifically and his TNA matches with Shelley, Bully Ray, and Joe. Not sure if his amazing match with Roode last night is up yet, but those matches are a start. Wonder if ROH puts together a Aries dvd like the put together a Punk dvd last year after his shoot promo? I'd buy it. Here is Joe Vs Aries at this years Slamiversary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByxjBlhF7rY you can also see their ROH matches linked there. (edited by Brian on 9.7.12 1118)

Aries recently said some negative things about ROH's new management in an interview, so, maybe that will prevent them from doing a DVD set on him. Don't know.

The postmatch bit on iMPACT with Kenny King and Austin Aries was designed to poke at ROH a bit. Kenny says he was advised by friends that ROH couldn't/shouldn't hold him to a verbal deal, and it's most likely that Austin was one of those friends.
But then ROH is not really in a position to avoid doing something that might make them some money.

And given that they have brought out best of Bryan Danielson, Summer of Punk, and Punk vs. Joe collections in just the past few months, they're certainly not adverse to showcasing their former stars who are off making it big somewhere else.

Now HERE'S a fun match to look at with the benefit of hindsight! Austin Aries vs. CM Punk from ROH!
A good, long 30+ minute match with a KILLER Punk promo at the end, as he rides off to The E! And I do believe this is the birth of the term "pipe bomb".
On the continuing subject of Aries, it's staggering to see how much TNA has changed since his re-debut at last year's Destination X. Seriously! Go check out the thread from last year's PPV and look at how much this company has changed* since then!
(* - Well...except for AJ Styles fighting Christopher Daniels. Some things will never change.)

ROH just released an Austin Aries DVD set earlier today:
