I recently created a scenario for Extreme Warfare Revenge, and posted about it on one of their message boards. It's been very well received, so I thought I might post a description here, along with a link to the site that's hosting it.

In August of 2002, Brock Lesnar was booked to win the WWE Undisputed Title at SummerSlam over The Undertaker. At the same time, Paul Heyman’s role in WWE continued to decrease, as Triple H and Stephanie began to handle the lion’s share of the booking. Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Lance Storm, Christian? All of them were heavily buried as Brock Lesnar was pushed to the moon and made to look invincible. WWE pushed Lesnar over just about everybody except for Triple H and The Rock, and built towards a Lesnar-Triple H match at WrestleMania XIX for the Undisputed World Title.

Of course, Brock Lesnar was only being made to look invincible so that Triple H would look that much more incredible after he defeated Lesnar, cleanly, at WrestleMania for the title. Traditional Clique booking.

On top of that, the Booker T/Goldust angle was completely destroyed by Triple H, who viewed Booker T’s rise to main-event status as a direct challenge to his position. Goldust was booked to join the nWo and feud with Booker T. The feud was a disaster—fans wanted to see them together as one of the best and most hilarious tag-teams in WWE, not feuding while Goldust was in the nWo group that was already considered a failure.

On the SmackDown side of things, Triple H built to the eventual feud with Lesnar by having just about the entire SmackDown roster lie down for him in convincing fashion. Triple H scored an overwhelming victory against Chris Jericho at SummerSlam, and over Kurt Angle at Unforgiven. Each victory was booked to make Triple H look as good as possible while completely humiliating his opponent.

Upset over what he viewed as the beginning of the death of WWE, Paul Heyman bought out his contract and began negotiations with NBC to start a jointly-owned wrestling federation to compete with WWE. NBC was only too happy to oblige, of course, as the network executives still endured XWF jokes after almost two years. Any chance to get back at Vince McMahon for the loss of public image and millions of dollars was simply too good for NBC to pass up. On top of that, Heyman guaranteed NBC that many of WWE’s under-used Superstars would be willing to join his new wrestling federation.

After Heyman’s fed, named the Global Wrestling Federation, acquired a television contract with NBC, Heyman set about his task of recruiting his roster. With the permission of each Superstar he acquired, he and NBC bought out the contracts of several of the men WWE had been burying all this time.

Booker T, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Raven, Rey Misterio Jr., Lance Storm and Tajiri were some of the names acquired by Heyman’s Global Wrestling Federation. Several independent wrestlers looking to make a name for themselves found opportunities in Heyman’s fed, including Aaron Bray, Chad Collyer, Ron “H2O” Waterman, Lash LeRoux and Michael Modest.

Heyman signed displaced former WWE veteran Curt Hennig, and also acquired Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling as a developmental federation. The unthinkable had become reality: Within only a few months, a serious competitor to World Wrestling Entertainment had been created.

It is now November of 2002, and the GWF has finished its initial building stage and is ready to mount its challenge. Can you lead Vince’s somewhat depleted roster back to where it used to be? Or will you continue what Paul Heyman has begun and make GWF the #1 promotion in the world? Or will you say “screw you” to both McMahon and Heyman and lead another federation to victory? The decision is yours, and yours alone.
