Andy Samberg leaving SNL

Bummer, but going out full circle with "Lazy Sunday 2" isn't a bad way to finish up. I'm guessing Sudeikis will be next, just without a final Under Underground Records skit as a sendoff :(

Rumor is that Sudeikis is going to stick around as Mitt Romney through the election and leave the show in November.

That says a lot about the chances people think Mitt will have in the fall if that is true. Samburg is off to bigger things even though the funniest thing he did had nothing to do with traditional skits.

Considering Romney's basically locked up the Republican nomination, it's not THAT much of a vote of confidence.

Even if Samberg's post-SNL career flops, I can see him still doing Digital Shorts occasionally for Lorne Michaels.

Even if the movie stinks, I love that he was cast as Adam Sandler's son. It just feels so...logical.

Andy Samberg Announces Post-'Saturday Night Live' Project

But Samberg isn't leaving the small screen altogether. At a Los Angeles press day for his upcoming film “That’s My Boy,” the comedian revealed that he’ll be joining the cast of a new BBC Three sitcom, the New York Post reports. According to the paper, Samberg will star in "Cuckoo” as "a lazy type who marries a British girl and struggles with his wife’s overprotective dad."

It does, even though Adam is only about 12 years older.

Which works, given the plot of the movie.

I'm sidetracking here, but the concept of the movie (young boy has son, raises son poorly because he's a kid) had potential, even (especially?) with the casting of Sandler and Sandberg. What I don't get is why is Sandler an immature wreck and Sandberg is the mature, stable straight man? I'd be much more interested in the movie if Sandler is now mature and regretful, and Sandberg is the comedic man-child who constantly embarasses Sandler because that's how he was raised.

That could work too. Regardless, it makes a lot more sense to cast Andy Samberg to be a la John C. Reilly than to be a la Richard Jenkins.
