Interview with Sir Ridley Scott himself. (movies.com)

I was enjoying his insight until the discarded notion came along that Jesus Christ was an Engineer. That one lost me.

I do like that Sir Ridley is of the British generation that refers to women as "birds".

My main problem with the film is how illogically everyone acts. I was sitting behind a college professor and said, "What kind of a scientist would immediately take off his helmet as soon as he learned the atmosphere was breathable?" He turns around and says, "None."

If this was light sci-fi like Star Wars or even Predator, that might wash, but this is supposed to be big time 2001 level stuff.

I took the "helmet" thing as the actors not wanting to run around in helmets all the time, sort of like how we see Tobey McGuire/Andrew Garfield's face waaaaay too much while in the Spider-Man costume. It's got to be more comfortable, allows them to *act* easier, and I think they merely gave them a "storyline" reason to do it. Didn't bother me all that much, but I can understand where it would bug others.

More stupid were the people who yelled at him for it, and then reasoned that if he wasn't showing ill effects 15 seconds after doing it, then it was safe for them, too. Yeesh.

Would I have gotten any more out of this movie if I had anything more than a dim recollection of the original?

Why bother casting Guy Pearce and burying him under aging makeup, as opposed to just casting an older actor?
