Yes, you see it here, folks! With purchase of his new NBA franchise, New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson gets a #1 pick thrown in for free! Isn't that nice and convenient? Ok, so MAYBE there's a chance that this draw might have been fixed... (EDIT: Although Deadspin points out that no matter who got the top pick, a "fixed" argument could have been made.)
And I'm not really complaining about it, either. I'd rather the lottery be fixed for Anthony Davis to land in New Orleans than have it reward Charlotte for its epic tank job.
Considering Eric Gordon was out for most of the year, adding Anthony Davis to that Hornets roster makes them a decent bet to make the playoffs next year.
Davis alone isn't why the Hornets are going to be an absolute and utter LOCK for the playoffs next year. Davis, a returning Gordon (unless Demps gets knocked unconscious long enough to not match any offer sheets Gordon might get), the #10 pick (Lillard as a developmental PG?) and astonishingly decent play from the rest of the roster, though...
Monty Williams didn't have a whole ton to work with, although there's a lot of potential on the roster. However, he was able to get everyone to play their asses off, so there were a lot of close losses with underwhelming or raw players. A team where Jarrett Jack and Chris Kaman are, by far, your two best players on the floor, shouldn't have been in that many games. If Al-Farouq Aminu can build on his flashes of competence from late in the season, Gordon can come back and stay healthy-ish, and the team's Cavalcade of Good-Enough Bigs can keep doing what they do, then the Hornets are going to be back where they belong in the postseason. The only way this can really go wrong is if Portland's Lurgy somehow befalls Davis.

I can't really yell rigged on this one. If the deal hadn't been agreed to yet to sell the team, yeah, then it makes it look like the league rigged it to make extra money on the sale. Now, if Brooklyn had jumped from 7 to 1, then it would have been rig talk. Plus, Jordan loses again.

From that Deadspin link...
There is not a single team in the lottery that could win tonight without the NBA conspiracy theorists crying "fixed!", except maybe the Raptors, and David Stern doesn't want Anthony Davis languishing in Toronto so he's not going to let that happen.
