TONIGHT: WWE says Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk will take place tonight, strengthening the theory that Kane will join them in a Three-Way at No Way Out. Also, expect more from Big Show after his heel turn at Over the Limit, and continued build to show vs. John Cena at NWO. It’s Memorial Day here in the states, so we’ll likely get a video package honoring our troops as well.

-A Memorial Day video packaged opened, dedicating this show to the men and women of the armed forces who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

-WWE Open.

-A video package aired with combining the Laurinaitis-Cena-Show happenings from Over the Limit and Raw last week. This looks like the same one that opened Smackdown Friday night.

-Big Show began the show by coming to the ring. Michael Cole again pushed that last Sunday was the “darkest day in WWE history.” I don’t know how you figure: Is it because Laurinaitis stayed in charge (aka nothing changes) or because Show turned heel (which has happened, as pointed out in a thread on this very forum, a number of times)? Show feigned smiling and acted passive aggressive toward the fans who gave him the “what?” chants. Soon after, he was interrupted by “Cena” chants. Show talked of his iron-clad contract with big fat bonus, meaning he’s set for life. He said he doesn’t have to be concerned about putting smiles on people’s faces. “I am not an entertainer, I’m a giant!” Can’t he be both? Show said there’s no one in his league, then made fun of NFL, NBA and UFC fighters, saying no one is in his league.

He continued, complaining that no WWE superstar came to his defense when he was on his knees begging for his job. He said that minutes after he lost his job, “this” happened: Then we got clips of Brodus Clay dancing with children in the segment after Show’s. That’s a nice callback, because I did think that was jarring to go from one extreme to the other. Show said two guys who he thought were his friends, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, were just out waving, clapping and having a good time, just like the fans in the crowd. It was so easy for them to just move on. Show called the fans “shallow” and “phony.” “He called ME a phony?” asks Jerry Seinfeld. Show said two weeks ago, he thought Cena was going to fight for him, for his friend. But instead, Cena did his stupid “loser” thing, which we again got to see via video recall.

Show said Cena just made jokes, and apparently, that’s what he is to everyone. So last week, he hurt Cena, knocking him out twice within 24 hours. Show said Cena didn’t in fact suffer the worst loss of his career at Wrestlemania; he didn’t suffer the most pain in beating Brock Lesnar; and he didn’t suffer his biggest embarrassment at Over the Limit. At No Way Out, Cena is going to experience all three of those in one night. “And that puts a smile on my face.” Long promo, but the explanation and examples were well-done, and made those segments mean something extra in hindsight.

-Tonight, Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk in singles action. It’s non-title.

-Backstage, Santino Marella was getting ready for his match against Alberto Del Rio. It’s next.

[Commercial Break]

(1) Alberto Del Rio vs. Santino Marella
Del Rio kicked away at Santino to start. By the way, Ricardo Rodriguez did introduce Del Rio after Santino and Ricardo’s confrontation last week. Hip-toss, then a diving headbutt by Santino. He applied the Cobra, but was kicked in the mid-section. Roll-through into the cross arm-breaker for the tap-out.

Winner: Del Rio, at :50. Decisive win for Del Rio, and I wouldn’t normally mind a win like this over Santino, but he IS the United States Champion.

Del Rio ripped off the Cobra and stuffed it in Santino’s mouth after the match.

-Backstage, Alex Riley complimented Eve about the job she was doing. As he was about to tell her something important, Big Show walked up. Eve said Show gets to pick his opponent tonight, per Johnny Ace. She left and Show backed down Riley. Riley said he admires the way Show handled things. Show told him to relax because he’s not picking him as his opponent tonight. He put his arm around Riley and told him there is a message he wants Riley to send to the locker room. He then tossed Riley into the wall.

[Commercial Break]

-They showed Bourbon Street, as Raw is in New Orleans tonight.

(2) Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger – WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Vickie Guerrero came out prior to the match, complimenting herself for getting her men another tag shot here tonight. High leg-drop found the mark for Truth for a two-count. The champs double-teamed their opponents, ending with both heels outside the ring. They went to break 1:20 into the contest.

[Commercial Break]

Back at the 4:34 mark. The heels were in control as they showed how the challengers got the upper-hand during the break. Kingston was the one doing the bulk of the selling at the stage in the match. Both Ziggler and Kingston were down and made tags. Truth with a roll-up for two. DDT on Swagger for another cover, broken up by Ziggler. Kofi was thrown over Truth and into Ziggler with a cross-body. The legal man, Swagger, tried a roll-up for two. Truth connected on his finisher (is it still called the Little Jimmy?) for the win.

Winners: Kingston and Truth, at 7:07. Good TV tag match, almost surprised at the clean finisih.

After the match, Ziggler yelled at Swagger and Vickie. “I’m better than this!’ he yelled, then he walked away. As much as the tag division would be strengthened by these two, I’m hopeful for Ziggler breaking from Vickie and Swagger.

- The trainer walked backstage with Santino, holding his arm. They walked into Show. The trainer said the arm was hurt, but Show scared him away. Show said maybe he’ll choose Santino, then grabbed him by the face and said Marella didn’t look too sad when Show was fired. Someone yelled “hey!” off-camera. Brodus then walked up and said if Show has a problem with him to say it to his face. He volunteered to face Show tonight. Show accepted and said Clay won’t be dancing much less walking afterward. The Funkadactyls walked up to Clay looking concerned after Show walked out of frame.

-Still to come: Bryan vs. Punk.

[Commercial Break]

-Johnny Ace wheeled himself onto the stage, accompanied by David Otunga and Eve. He was on a People Power scooter. He was able to get out of the scooter, using a crutch, and into the ring. There was a canvas covered by a black sheet in the ring. Ace said he had several announcements. One was Big Show vs. Brodus Clay tonight. Also, to ensure no interference in the main event of No Way Out, the match between Big Show and Cena will take place in a steel cage. And lastly, “I, John Laurinaitis, has become the most popular Superstar in WWE history.” He’s not popular with fans of the English language, however. Ace talked about the new WWE video game coming out later this year. He took the sheet off of the canvas in the ring – it was the cover of the WWE ’13 game, with Ace on the cover. Ace proclaimed this would be bigger than Pac-Man. CM Punk’s music interrupted and he walked out.

Punk compared Ace and Pac-Man by saying they have no testicles whatsoever. Punk said the person on the cover is actually a whole lot better-looking than Ace. A flash of fireworks went off and Punk being on the cover was unveiled from one of the trusses above the ring. It was a whole lot bigger than Ace’s, and he pointed it out as well. “Imagine, a wrestler on the cover of a wrestling video game.” Cole said Punk’s is the real cover (as straight-man), minutes after saying Ace’s was the real cover (as a heel). This is what happens when your lead announcer is also a heel announcer. Punk said if Ace thinks of putting him in a gauntlet match or anything like that, he should remember the Board of Directors is watching over him and to be careful. Ace simply wished Punk good luck. Punk stomped on Ace’s cover after Ace left. Punk vs. Bryan is next.

[Commercial Break]

(3) CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan
During Bryan’s entrance, they showed him attacking Kane with a chair last Friday on Smackdown. Hip-toss by Punk, then an arm-drag into an arm-bar. Bryan bridged, then flipped Punk to get out of the hold. Punk elbowed out, then caught Bryan on a leap-frog attempt and put him down. In talking about Big Show vs. Brodus Clay, Lawler noted that Clay is 22-0 since debuting. Punk and Bryan traded pinfall attempts. Punk bridged out of a pin and they fought over a backslide. Suplex into a back-breaker by Punk for two. Bryan was put on the apron, where he brought Punk’s left arm over the top rope. Bryan went to the top and rammed his knee into Punk’s face. Baseball slide kicked Punk to ringside. HE tried a baseball slide to the outside, but Punk dodged it. Cross-body off the second rope left both men down at ringside. At 4:48, AJ walked to the ring smiling and clapping. Punk saw her and rolled Bryan into the ring.

[Commercial Break]

As the show returned, AJ was still at ringside and Punk was getting the better of Bryan. Bryan flipped out of the corner but ran into a big boot. Bryan shooed Punk away on a cross-body attempt. Basement dropkick by Bryan, who then went back to work on the left arm of the WWE Champion. Running dropkick in the corner by Bryan for a two-count, 10:11 into the match. Punk tried to fight back with kicks, but Bryan grabbed the arm and suplexed him over-head. Lawler pointed out that AJ was wearing a CM Punk t-shirt. Knee-lift by Punk stopped Bryan’s momentum. Punk began his comeback with one arm. Neck-breaker for two at 12:13. The announcers agreed that AJ was “strange.” Bryan missed with a kick and Punk rolled him up for two. Springboard clothesline for two. Punk went to the top rope for an elbowdrop, but Bryan bumped the ropes to crotch Punk. Bryan stood on the top rope and superplexed Punk off. Pin attempt for nearly a three-count. AJ began to grow more concerned. Bryan unhooked the turnbuckle pad as AJ got on the apron to tell the ref about it. Bryan told her to get down and walked into a kick to the head for two. Punk told AJ to leave ringside. Punk wetn for a running knee, but with the turnbuckle exposed, Bryan grabbed Punk and rammed him head-first into it. He got the pin from it.

Winner: Bryan, at 15:22. I actually like Bryan getting the win here, and even would’ve been okay had it been clean.

After the match, Kane ran out and put Bryan on the mat with a few chairshots. Then a chokeslam onto the chair. AJ tossed a chair to Punk, who unloaded on Kane.

-Big Show and Brodus Clay collide tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-A riverboat was shown riding on the Mississippi River.

-As Christian made his way to the ring, Cole and Lawler talked about Chris Jericho not being on the show tonight because of an incident in Brazil. They really danced around the subject and told fans to go to WWE.com for the whole story. And hey, Cody Rhodes was with them at the announce desk too.

(4) Christian vs. The Miz
Sunset flip by Christian, but Miz rolled through and booted Christian in the face. Corner clothesline by Miz as Rhodes called Christian “old.” Miz to the top, and he connected on a double axe-handle for a two-count. Neck-breaker by Miz, again for two. Cody said he made the IC Title mean something but Christian winning made it all meaningless. Christian with a flying elbow as Cody took the headsets off. A distraction led to Miz rolling Christian up for two. Christian hopped to the second rope but Miz pulled him off. Cody headed to the back as Miz dodged a Killswitch. Nobody home in the corner so Christian hit the Killswitch, then his new finish, the frog-splash for the win.

Winner: Christian, at 4:15. A Christian-Cody feud is something I can get behind.

-Ace’s cabinet was meeting in the back. Ace said he had to talk to them privately. And instead of sending out the cameraman, Eve told Teddy Long to leave. Ace said he was disappointed in Otunga for tapping out so quickly to Cena last week after Ace lasted so long on Sunday. Otunga tried to retort about Cena not having it in fully against Ace. Ace admonished Eve for not getting the apology out of SHeamus on Friday she was supposed to. She claimed Sheamus is hard-headed and Otunga volunteered to fight him. Ace talked of retirement. He walked off and Long handed Eve her coffee. She spit it out and threw it on Teddy, saying it was cold. Teddy said it’s iced coffee, it’s supposed to be cold.

[Commercial Break]

-Miz was still in the ring, demanding his previous loss be stricken from the record. He talked about getting the winning pinfall for Team Johnny at Wrestlemania, yet he has no big bonus, his face isn’t on the cover of the WWE video game and he isn’t getting title matches. He said he wasn’t going to leave until his demands were addressed. Randy Orton walked out and Miz told him to leave, but he walked right up to Miz and RKO’d him. Then they played Orton’s music.

Dolph Ziggler was watching the proceeding backstage. He told Vickie that he wanted out of the tag team and said he should be in Orton’s spot right now. Vickie said she’s see what she could do. Back to Orton for more celebrating.

-Big Show vs. Clay, still to come tonight.

-Sheamus was walking backstage. He faces David Otunga next.

-Cole and Lawler thanked fans for joining them on Memorial Day. Lawler said like John Cena or not, you can’t question his patriotism. We got pre-recorded comments and a video package from Cena, with him discussing what Memorial Day means to him. The reaction of the live crowd was then shown, with some “USA” chants and some military members in attendance.

[Commercial Break- This week, for the first time in eight years, the WWE Title will be decided on Smackdown when CM Punk takes on Kane.]

(5) David Otunga vs. Sheamus
During the entrance of Sheamus, they showed highlights of Alberto Del Rio becoming the #1 contender for the World Title on Smackdown. Otunga hammered away with rights once the bell rang, but they didn’t have much effect. A hip-toss was blocked and Sheamus clotheslined Otunga down. Otunga escaped a powerslam and took Sheamus down. Diving shoulder tackle for two. Irish whip into the corner, but Sheamus burst out and hit Otunga with an Irish Hammer. Sheamus slugged away with forearm shots to the chest of Otunga. He picked Otunga up and gave him the White Noise finisher. Brogue Kick followed for the finish.

Winner: Sheamus, at 2:47. Otunga actually got more offense than I expected.

-Clay seemed to be in a good mood when he was walking with his Funkadactyls backstage, headed to the ring for his match.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged Cena vs. Big Show in a steel cage at No Way Out.

-He then threw it to a shorter version of the opening video package of the show.

-Brodus Clay came out and did his schtick. Then Show did, but wearing a t-shirt and a beanie. Show said he thought he was a sell-out when he did embarrassing things for the business, but Clay does embarrassing things nightly. Clay got out of the ring and went ot ringside. Show said when the people get sick of Clay dancing, maybe he can get some clown make-up and become the next Doink. But the difference is that Doink actually had talent. Not all of them! Show ran to ringside and speared Clay down. Clay tried to fight back but was thrown into the ring post. The dancers were still in the ring, and they looked…frightened? Show took Clay and shoved him spine-first into the post. As Show began to disassemble the announce table, Kingston and Truth ran out. Show caught Kingston and tossed him into Truth. Show took a piece of the announce table and hit Clay with it. I can’t help but think how much more effective this would be with Mark Henry in Show’s role. I know, Henry is hurt.

Show grabbed Truth and tossed him into the ring ropes, sending Truth bouncing back to the mat at ringside. He then grabbed Kofi by the throat and shoved him through a piece of the barricade and into where the ring announcer sits. Back to Clay, Show gave him a knockout punch. Show took in the scene, standing around looking at the fans, as apparently his destruction was over. They replayed the spear on Clay and some other attacks on the three men. Clay still laid on the mat as Show went to a fan who had a “Big Show is a Giant Sellout” sign. He looked like he wanted to pull the guy over the rail and beat him. Instead, he just angrily stared. His theme hit and he walked to the back. Ace came out on the stage with a crutch and held Show’s arm high in the air. One last look at the devastation left behind as Cole reminded viewers that Cena returns next week and wondered how he’d react.

I have to say that it makes a world of difference when Big Show is booked as a monster rather than just another guy. I like this version.

How dare they put CM Punk on the cover of that server-less mess of a game. I'm pissed cause now I have to buy WWE 13 just because of the fact. Damn you THQ!

Big Show as a monster is still a boring Big Show, but I understand the necessity for a large monster since Lesnar is temporary and Mark Henry injured (from being forced to work injured).

Is Ziggler getting a solo push again? #DanielBryanYes! Get him far away from Swagger and Vickie.

I'm really getting pissed off at these fluff segments involving ultimate babyface Cena visiting troops and kissing babies at Make-A-Wish. They put a spin on those sappy neo "My Sacrafice" vids to make it seem like only Cena out of the entire roster gives a shit about the armed forces. Like he's the only person requested by children in need. Gimme a fucking break, he's not the only philanthropist on the fucking roster, and it's bullshit that they push him as such. Not only that but it seems to happen weekly. We get it he's a sugary sweet guy, but Creative tries to shove it down our throat like whenever he's not working he's at a military base or pediatrics ward and NO OTHER WWE SUPERSTAR CAN BE BOTHERED. Then Lawler goes "well love him or hate him John Cena really does a lot for.." Fuck you talking head.

WWE 12 was a terrible game, all things considered. I have eternal hopes that the next one will be better, but much like cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs year in and year out, I'm only setting myself up for disappointment.

At least the cover looks badass.

I'm guessing we can expect more of those until, oh, at least mid-August, when Connecticut's primaries could put an end to this madness.

I was under the impression that this is all WWE getting out in front of the Cena divorce, that they have noticeably turned it up so much suggests things might get ugly. Doing a PR campaign for their top star sounds like due diligence for a publicly-traded company. Whatever mileage a politician may get out of Linda's wrestling career will be for the salacious Wrestlecrap moments of the Attitude-era, not the goofy Cena Wrestlecrap moments of the PG-era.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I thought Show hit his opening promo over the fence, good on the writers for picking up on their own plot holes to make a backhanded-justification for the heel turn. It's certainly good enough to re-establish Show enough for a Cena filler feud. (Not that I expect the matches to be any more entertaining than the ones from Cena's Kane filler feud.)

Yay, Ziggler may be in line for something after a long holding pattern in heel bump-machine limbo.

After taking a veiled shot at Austin over Piper being ranked #2 on the "best talkers" list, I expected Punk to stomp a mudhole in that Ace poster. I wonder if AJ might be the catalyst toward getting Punk into a position where Austin would come back for a WM program, I'm intrigued where this is going. BTW, that was quite the seamstress job on that T-shirt.

If Miz is jobbing out to go work on the next "Marine" DVD release anyway, why not go ahead and work a hair match into his hiatus?

I'm going to guess it was Eve blowing her line, because if she had originally asked for an iced coffee instead of "coffee", the punchline would have worked.

We all knew it already, but a WWE Title match on SmackDown is the final nail that puts paid to the brand extension.

And with that, the long weekend took its toll, and I dozed off. Have to catch the end of the show later.

Minus Punk/Bryan, there was not a love good to this show. But, to be fair after Brock breaking HHH, that has been the story of Raw for the last few months. They are the CO-MVPs of this show maybe company right now. The non-MVPS is Kane and AJ who shouldn't be anywhere near this feud. Ok, AJ should, but Kane, fuck that.

Curious to see where they go with Orton now that Jericho is out for awhile if not ever if you believe his twitter which you really shouldn't. Miz is really the red haired step child and if they are slowly turning him face, they need to stop the slow and go to Ludicrous Speed, because this is doing nothing for him. Sheamus beating down guys is good for him.

I understand there has to be a Raw where the bad guys go on a roll. I really do, its Horsemen booking 101. What I didn't like was making your faces look like wimps. Santino, Clay and even K-Truth looked like borderline jobbers. I might not be so upset if it wasn't going to be Golden Boy expect in Marriage, John Cena to the rescue. As sick CruelAngel is of John Cena, the only humanitarian on the roster, I am sick of John Cena, the savior of the WWE. Especially when it comes at the expense at the roster. WWE's major problems, is they have no good mid-card faces. Its Santino, Clay, the one face tag team and Ryder if they ever use him again. Turning Christian helps, but they should have spent this time building guys up instead being Apollo in Rocky 4.

They are going to need those faces especially if TMZ and other trash news sources decide John Cena's marriage falling apart is good for that slow news week or Month during this forever long election year news cycle. Besides that, Punk goes all out each night and its going to lead to an injury and while people like Sheamus, they don't love him. They need faces as backdoor characters, people believe to be in the upper card. None of those guys are there.

One way to get Show over as a bad guy is to beat up the kid favorites: Santino, Broadus, Kofi, Truth. And Little Jimmy didn't do shit.

So long as Kane leaves this angle without a meaningful win, I'm fine with him in the Bryan/Punk feud. The small guys should run circles around him.

Ziggler. You're not getting my hopes up again, WWE. You're just gonna job him after he sells the RKO with a Triple Lindy. BUT WAIT. Orton is fragile. What if an Orton injury mid-angle act as a booster rocket for Mr. Ziggles? Nah, I don't want to root for an injury. Even for Ziggler's benefit.

I thought it was an homage to the scene in Batman Returns when Alfred served Bruce Wayne soup in the Batcave and Bruce spit it out.

"It's cold!"
"It's vichysoisse, sir. It's supposed to be cold."

Highlight of the night for me was that same vignette when Big Johnny, who might want to retire in 20 or 30 years and would need a successor, called out David Otunga for tapping immediately to the STF when Cena placed Johnny in it twice and he lasted for over 20 seconds.

Otunga: "Yeah, but he didn't have it locked on all the way!"

I would rather buy the funny Big Johnny cover of WWE 13 than the generic CM Punk cover. #BiggerthanPacMan

If Orton got injured in a match with Dolph say goodbye to him cause he's going the way of Ken Kennedy/Anderson. Though I would kinda like to see AJ Styles versus Rolph Diggles.

Yeah you'd be the only one. Actually I wish that Johnny Ace cover was the real one because sales for the game would be abysmal enough to finally kill that gaming franchise. Then maybe WWE will get Spike or whatever is left of AKI games to start making wrestling games again.

If Orton got injured in a match with Dolph say goodbye to him cause he's going the way of Ken Kennedy/Anderson. Though I would kinda like to see AJ Styles versus Rolph Diggles.

I think Dolph would have to hurt or injure about 5-10 other wrestlers before he got near Anderson's number in the WWE.

Orton may have been the straw that broke Anderson's WWE career, but he had a bad rep for a long time before that. He just never gave a crap enough to learn.

Ziggler getting Jericho's spot is a great break for him and the best possible alternative. They've had 4-5 really good TV matches in the last year, and Ziggler's going to go from forgotten man to having a match that reminds everyone there how good he is and they need to do something with him. Normally that just means they'll get behind him, cool him off, and the cycle will repeat itself again. But he's going to get on the radar again right before Money in the Bank, which has been a real-life winning lottery ticket to basically everyone but his partner. Up until now I'd been guessing they would bulldoze Miz and then bring him back from the movie with a second MITB.

AJ/Punk is great, and if it leads to Bryan and AJ stealing the belt, all the better. Maybe if Kane's put in the match it'll be so they can take the title from Punk without pinning him.

Actually, the last guy who injured Randy is the new #1 heel.

I don't remember THQ or WWE or IGN making such to-do over last year's game, and that was the switch to the Predator engine. As of tomorrow, we're still FIVE MONTHS away from getting the game. Cole said IGN would have front-page coverage of the game today, and there's nothing up yet (16+ hours later). Used to be, this kind of competition would be used for the cover of WWE Magazine. I'm a crank. Harumph harumph.

There were a lot of as about calling it 9 out of 10 from IGN and other gaming sites and magazines. It was hyped pretty well, well enough I bought it for Savage. This maybe the worst wrestling game, I have played and I returned WM X-8 and the Game Cube to get a PS2 and Smackdown 4, the same day as I bought it. There is a lot to hate about the game even if you are not doing storylines. You would think with all the tech from PS2 to 360, the games would give you more freedom. It doesn't. They are so PC obsessed in the game that it has taken the joy out of it. As much as I love Punk, I don't think I will buying this. Did I mention the servers were an almost joke?

I take it back.

WWE.com still has the revealing Orton as the WWE 12 cover star (wwe.com), and that story is dated 5/30/2011. Almost exactly a year ago.

Crank crank crank.

CruelAngel is on fire in this thread. Rolph Diggles? Awesome.

As for Raw, looking at it from this thread, I'm just gonna delete it off the old DVR. Call me when Brock returns.

Is Big Show shrinking?

Last night, Alex Riley didn't seem that much smaller than him and Brodus was pretty close to looking him in the eye.
Recently a shot of him and Kane walking side by side showed Kane to be taller.

He just doesn't seem like the World's Biggest Athlete they hype him to be.

Will Brodus Clay ever get to appear in a match that lasts longer than two minutes?
How are they figuring his 22-0? TV wins only? It's kind of silly they don't count house shows--they're still WWE matches with a ref and a crowd-just no cameras....

Another Raw where I felt like they're setting something up that's huge.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Kane taps to both Bryan and Punk, setting up a weird dual champ situation for Summerslam?
