Coming March 2013. (AP via Washington Post)

Oooh, Fred Biletnikoff!

Smart move not directly competing w/ the NFL. But will they have to pay Goodell that $1 back?

I would say the USFL has more potential than the UFL for two reasons: (1) not playing during the NFL season, and (2) making players easily available to the NFL. Following the enf of the UFL's second season, there was some controversy when they were requiring NFL teams to pay the UFL a $150,000 transfer fee for each former UFL player signed. WHen no team was willing to pay it, they reduced it to $25,000 in December, but I still think the only payments to end those contracts were made by players on their future NFL team's behalf.
If the new USFL will allow the NFL to sign USFL talent for no cost, then it has a chance to survive as a kind of minor league.

But, there already is a minor league. It's called the NCAA.

I'm a huge fan of football. Season ticket holder at Lambeau. I've worked for three different indoor football teams, and currently work for an amateur outdoor team. That said, you couldn't pay me to watch minor league NFL football (that isn't the NCAA).

I loved the NFL Europe league and I would be all for a spring league that was not trying to be competitive with the NFL. I loved the USFL when I was a kid and the NFL is so huge I can't see why a well-run spring league wouldn't work. The problem with the USFL was its Donald Trump-fueled ambition.

The best thing a spring league could be is a place for inexperienced NFL QBs to play.

I would watch it if only because it would not be on opposite the NFL and it would be cheap enough for me to take my kids to see a professional football game. What the heck? I was one of those who liked the XFL so I am game to try the USLF again.
