An entertaining, gleefully Joss Whedon-y, blood-soaked, gorefest genre mashup loaded with Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse throwbacks.

After you've seen The Cabin in the Woods (and read my review, ahem), do check out Rex Reed's completely incompetent and factually incorrect pan of it. (observer.com) It's hilarious in its own right.

If anyone is thinking about seeing this movie, DO SO. Now. Yesterday. Seriously, this would still be a GOOD movie if you go in knowing what it's about, but going in with as little knowledge as possible made for one of the most fun movie experiences I've had in a long time. This movie is super crazy go nuts, in the best possible way. And people are REALLY going to want to spoil it, so you owe it to yourself to get out there before it happens.

Saw it this weekend. Loved it. Commercial spoiled a bit more than I would've liked, but there is so much crazy that it was still surprising.

Like John (& OFB and Scotty) I loved it.

Me ridiculously geeky self-aware (non-spoilerific) review is here:

Loved it. I normally snooze at the notion of seeing a horror film because of their dime-a-dozen nature, but this one just doesn't break the fourth wall with a wink and a nod, it absolutely destroys it with a stampede of... well, once you see the third act you'll know what I mean.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
BUT... Joss & Drew totally got a little too heavy-handed with the "underground corporation" gimmick at times, especially in the early going when they showed WAY too much too soon. (Thor's death scene, in particular, suffered from this, because one of those "meta" moments in the early going completely tips the means of his death WELL before it happens, and I think it would've been a bit more impactful if the audience DIDN'T know what was going to happen in that spot.) Don't get me wrong, some of the banter down there is absolutely HILARIOUS and I wouldn't cut it outright, but I'd definitely have reconfigured the first half of the film so that the first 20 minutes were all with the Scooby Gang and the second 20 minutes were all underground, just to make the tension in the first half that more palpable.
