"Hey, Randy, the Governor called!"

With Dale gone, T-Dogg got so much dialogue! Now the T in T-Dogg stands for Talking. Talking Dogg.

The opening sequence intercutting Dale's funeral with the Anti-Walker Revenge Squad driving around testing the gates and slaughtering the Walkers slaughtering the cattle was bad ass.

I also really liked the Glenn and Andrea scene remembering Dale while getting his mobile home to start. The group may be broken but they get to inherit the mobile home. I did really like that Glenn got to join in the night hunt for Randall and team up with Darryl, plus he got to kill the Walker and earn an attaboy for is skill with a cleaver.

Shane jumped through several flaming hoops of crazy tonight. I thought the craziest thing in the onset was him telling Carl to keep Darryl's gun but then Rick had his father to son talking with Carl and gave Carl the gun. Absolutely ridiculous, arming a mentally unstable ten year old whom no adult seems capable of or interested in keeping track of.

But then Shane absolutely lost it with his completely transparent scheme that Brilliant Darryl The Tracker saw right through plain as day. With Lost long since over, I forgot how much I enjoyed scenes of tracking people through scary forests.

When bloody nose and mouth Shane finally revealed his hand that it was all a ruse to kill Rick, I was heard to remark, "Shane has completely transformed into Lord Voldemort." I mean look at them, the resemblance was uncanny.

But HOLY FUCKING SHIT, Rick killed Shane! Gutted him like a fish! And then howled to the Heavens like a Klingon mourning a loved one. And then Crazy Carl Coming Out of Nowhere came out of nowhere with the gun he has no business having and Daryl still doesn't seem to miss. I cannot fucking believe they killed Shane! (I started to sense something was suspicious when Shane and Lori had their reconciliation scene together. That felt like a foreshadowing that something was up.)

The Walker Vision Transformation Flashes as Shane turned into a Walker was fucking bizarre, possibly a jump the shark moment. Hard to tell right now. HOW did Shane turn into a Walker. Why are the Walkers becoming Walkers without bites? What is going on?! I need answers!

And now there's a Million Walker March coming for the Farmhouse. Farmageddon!

Recapping note: I'll be traveling and can't guarantee I'll see The Walking Dead in a timely fashion next week, so whomever wants to handle the recap should have at it.

Fuck. No more Shane! Fuck.

Also, CM Punk was watching The Walking Dead tonight.

Jumpin' Jiminy Christmas, they made a point to lock down the house as soon as there was any sign of danger and Lori STILL lets Carl wander off by himself...in the middle of the night...into an EMPTY FIELD! What is WRONG with this woman? It's a hell of a case for child services...or it would be if they haven't already been eaten.

I never expected the blowoff with Rick and Shane to come in this particular episode. I thought they'd either slow burn it into next season or finish it off in the season finale. As much fun as that was, it does leave a gaping hole for next season, as far as character conflict goes.

The big mystery now is, exactly how did Shane turn into a walker if he wasn't bitten? I'm guessing it has to do with the tree he scraped his face against. Yes, we'll have ZOMBIE TREES!

Per TV Line http://www.tvline.com/2012/03/the-walking-dead-season-2-episode-12-death/

"TVLINE | Shane turning into a zombie in the end pretty much confirms that everyone’s already infected. Can you confirm that that’s what Jenner whispered in Rick’s ear?

Robert Kirkman | [Hesitates] Well, I can’t confirm that. But what I can say is that Shane turning after being stabbed definitely does inform Rick revealing what Jenner whispered, in the next episode.

TVLINE | So we’ll finally find out what he whispered in next week’s finale?

Robert Kirkman | Yes."

Shane & Randall both zombified without any apparent bites. Daryl made a point of checking over Randall's body as well, & pointed that out to Glenn. We might be able to create a scenario where Rick hadn't cleaned off his zombie killing knife since the last time he dispatched one. Or even that maybe Shane picked up a mild case of zombie virus during the botched Randall drop-off, & he's been incubating it since. But, assuming Daryl's right, Randall seems more puzzling.

I could not believe the damn kid was out running around loose again! When they showed that, I was wondering if we were going to get some sort of Rick seeing things. Dad was kinda concerned there, wasn't he?

Daryl has noticed that his gun is missing. (While Shane is losing it in the shed with Randall, Daryl is by the truck getting ready to go. T-Dogg brings him Dale's gun, & Daryl says, "Wish I knew where the hell mine is.") If they *did* want to give Carl a gun, much better that they should have given him Dale's gun, & returned Daryl's weapon to Daryl. If I were Daryl, I think I'd be pissed when I notice what weapon the kid is toting around.

Very touching scene between Andrea & Glenn. Meanwhile, Lori's scene with Shane couldn't have done more to stir the pot. Does she really not realise? She deserves to have had both of them wind up dead.

This is definitely a "they're all carriers" scenario. I like that the RapeSquad is apparently being held off to be next year's threat, presumably headed by the recently cast Governor and hopefully still counting Merle amongst their numbers.

Surprised that Shane went out her rather than in the finale. Which makes me suspect there's an even bigger, shriller, skinnier death coming next week.

Hokey. Smoke.

This makes three STRONG episodes in a row after a weak first half-season, and seemingly anyone now is vulnerable, making for a better show.

Here's who I do not want to die now:
Daryl
Andrea
Glen
Glen's girlfriend who fell out of a wormhole from 1989
Rick.

Everyone else can get got.

Daryl. Daryl Daryl Daryl. You magnificent bastard.

I hope Herschel isn't becoming Dale 2.0. I'd rather have the original flavor.

I continue to be amazed at how much better this show is now that Glen Mazarra is showrunner.

Show/book comparison thoughts:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I have only read the first four trade paperbacks, but I'm pretty sure they did the "zombie turn without being bitten" thing in the book too. It happened to Shane. I just haven't gotten to any explanation (if there has been one) yet.

Speaking of Shane, I like that they had Rick kill him, which makes more sense within the context of the show, but also had Carl shoot him, which is a nice nod to the book.

The only thing I found funny was that Shane and Rick walked and walked and walked, but still somehow were only in the front yard of the house.

I disagree with SchippeWreck in his spoilers. The comic book story was better, because it developed that character. Not having him kill Shane is like Luke not getting Anakin's lightsaber. I have to sit down and watch the entire episode, but the ending was spoiled thanks to AMC's preview during Comic Book Men. So, I am not a fan of the way Shane's death was handled just by reading it here. After reading the Compendium of Walking Dead, I am wondering how much further off the rail we get til it becomes Left 4 Dead with a real plot instead of Walking Dead.

The irony to this is after reading Walking Dead and watching Game of Thrones season one, I am kinda praying Game of Thrones takes this direction Walking Dead is. As awesome it is to see the first book play out almost word for word, books 4 and 5 are borderline just ok to God awful. Their best bet to is to combine those books into one really quick season and salvage what is left if Martin either leaves this world or the fans demand they move away from the source material.

Man, if they go with "everyone is infected", then they better figure out an explanation for why we've already seen corpses that haven't reanimated. Seems like that'd be a pretty big plot hole.

Also, if everyone is already infected, then what's the point? The point so far is that these people are just trying to ride out the storm & survive until a point where humanity can come back, but if everyone is just going to zombify when they die, then's it's just a waste of time. If there's no hope of it ever getting better, then I don't know, why should we invest any time in these people?

Wait, why does "everyone is infected" translate to "there's no hope"? When you die of old age, you're cremated instead of buried. That's about all the difference it makes.

I think a lot of fans are weded to the comics for no real reason. They are, to be polite, not great. There's great stuff here and there, and probably a higher percentage of it than the show has managed so far, but they're not the CITIZEN KANE of zombie fiction like so many claim.

If you sit down and read as a novel, its pretty damn close. There is a lot more action and a lot more going into the real dangers of society instead coasting on the farm for an entire season. Granted, I have liked certain things they are doing to what is in the comics mainly Daryl, but there is also less padding an hour of a show for the sake of padding. The first half of this season was a lot of padding.

During the scene with the "Anti-Walker Revenge Squad", was I the only one that kept thinking about the scene in Office Space, with the printer being replace by zombies?

I can't wait for someone to do a YouTube remix of that.

I also didn't expect Shane to die until, at least, the season finale. However, it looks like he had to die here to set up the finale. I would have much preferred one more season with him, but we all knew he couldn't stick around forever, and honestly he lost his shit completely about three episodes ago. Now the series becomes about external threats, which are honestly not quite as interesting to me. The one thing I do really like, though, is how they've set up Andrea as the successor to the legacies of both Dale and Shane. It's going to be really interesting to see which way she goes.

I also thought that Walker-vision was pretty stupid, but I would not say that it's a show-breaker. It's just something that, if they're smart, we should never see again.

If Rick was gonna kill Shane, why not just shoot him as soon as he tucked the gun in his pants instead of gambling with the knife?

Carl is written sloppily. In the book he is one of the most popular characters, here he's an unstable idiot. There's no way any parent would let the kid out of their sight especially at night.

Thoughts

Lori is the worst mom ever. She HAS to die next week and then her unborn child emerges as a zombie through her belly ala Aliens.

Andrea telling Rick "then don't leave the farm" was an awesome comeback.

Rick and Shane walking forever and winding up in front of the farm was hysterical.

I would NEVER take Glen in the woods at night to track a fiugitive AND zombies over T Dog. What does T Dag have to do to get some screen time??

I wish they held off on Shane dying and ran a little more with the Kill Squad trecking off togehter to kill zombies. And yes, I thought of Office Space too. Damn it feels good to be a zombie.....

I hope Rick steps down next season and lets Darryl lead. I trust him WAY more than Rick.

So Barmageddon huh? Half the people on the farm have to die. The most likely:

Everyone who was at the Farm prior to Rick's group showing up. And Lori and Carl. Please kill them off.

Great episode until Carl showed up there at the end. I agree that he is sloppily written, but the kid playing the part is pretty lame and helps make the character tough to get behind.

I look forward to the reset roster I don't think Shane will be missed much and am psyched to see the zombie invasion.

How is "people die of old age, yet mankind continues on" the same as "humankind goes extinct as everyone turns into zombies"? I'd like to think that for these people the zombies will eventually be wiped out, and humankind can return to some sort of normal life. But if everyone is destined to be killed or turned into a zombie, that's kinda bleak.

(Also, I haven't read the comics, so I have no point of reference vis-a-vis the show & comics.)

Except that:

A.) A gun went off anyway.

B.) Rick howled like a coyote afterword.
