It's Kid Flash's birthday, and it may be wrong to talk bad about a dude on his birthday, I learned this week a little Kid Flash goes a long way. Though Kid Flash did go a long way, 3000 miles across country to deliver a heart transplant from Boston to Seattle. (Interesting depiction of Boston by Young Justice; those establishing shots were of a Boston I certainly don't recognize.)

The coolest stuff was the B plot - from the "surprise" party for Kid Flash to the mission assigned by Batman where Young Justice got to team with the Justice League to bring down a bunch of ice fortresses. Minus Kid Flash, the mentors got to team with their sidekicks: Batman and Robin, Aquaman and Aqualad, Superboy and Superma-- oh wait. Once again, a global crisis with no sign of the Man of Steel. What does Young Justice have against Superman?

The episode ran off the rails for me once the real reason for the heart transplant was revealed: that Count Vertigo was trying to steal the heart and kill Queen Perdita so he could become King Vertigo of Vlatava. So you're telling me somehow the whole scheme of giant ice fortresses covering the entire country in snow and ice and the participation of Vandal Savage was all just some scheme to install Count Vertigo as the sovereign of his backwater Eastern European postage stamp of a country? And then once Vertigo was bamboozled, he just went quietly with the guards to Belle Reve, despite having superpowers and the means to escape? That whole thing didn't make a lick of sense.

Also, Batman coming to Belle Reve to ask Dr. Hugo Strange about which ice villains could have been responsible for the ice fortresses? Pretty weird.

But at least now Wally knows Megan and Superboy are a couple.

I wonder how many more episodes this season?

I also thought it was a bit strange of an episode. Where we start off with Wally getting what he wanted only to have it all turn to shit once Artemis in a rather cold way told him about MM and Superboy. That was such a bitch thing to do that I am really hoping that when she is revealed to be the traitor they don't pull a Sharia and say it was ok at the end of it, but straight up boot her ass out and just turn her heel. The Savage thing was just weird with no payoff and unless this Eastern Europe country is call Latavaria, I could really give a shit. I like Wally was expecting an awesome episode and it was a bit of a letdown at the end like a lot of birthdays.

There was potential for this to be really good. I actually liked the idea of Wally outsmarting the bad guy and playing up that he can be a smart character, not just a comic relief character. But all of those plot holes that you guys mentioned kinda killed this one dead. I don't consider Count Vertigo to be a top-tier villain, so the major bad guys opting to help him seemed like an odd plot point. The only way it would make sense would be if the villains could somehow get sanctuary in Vertigo's country and some sort of diplomatic immunity as a result, but the master plan is never explained.

Vandal Savage is having a good year as a supervillain so far, between his role in JL: Doom and in Young Justice. About time. I've always thought of him as a top-level villain that hasn't gotten his just due in recent years.

Well, I assumed that installing their own monarch was worth a small favor from a bunch of supervillains. I mean, it wasn't even an hour out of Vandal Savage's immortal life, so it probably seemed like a pretty good deal. As for why Vertigo didn't escape, his powers are the result of a mechanical device, which Kid Flash grabbed off him at the end of their fight. He was essentially powerless at that moment. My real issue with the episode is that the transplant was for the Queen of Vlatava, someone who most definitely is very important and has her own supervillain arch-nemesis, and no one thought that Kid Flash needed to know this. I mean, sure, it doesn't matter who the recipient is in so far as they still need that heart to stay alive, but maybe they could have prepared Wally for some interference? Hey, while you're out there, look out for Count Vertigo?

The first episode of this "season" was in 2010. There's a clear narrative they're trying to tell over the course of the season, but it's a bit tough to get into it when they alternate airing eight episodes and disappearing for four months.
