"And we're back in Fantasy Land!" - Shane

First off, that blonde girl in the open-eyed coma, whatever her name is -- she's faking it. Like Buster Bluth was faking it.

The bar shootout sequence was one of the tensest 10-15 minutes of television I've ever seen. Brilliant staging to not see the faces of Tony and Dave's people, just voices and gunshots.

The manipulations of the writing were never more evident than outside the bar when Randall got his leg caught in that fence spike (something that happened to my sister and her foot when she was 9, but not nearly to that extreme). It was completely irrational for Rick to insist they save Randall and then have Hershel use that little bowie knife to try to saw the leg off and then expend precious ammo shooting the surrounding Walkers, but damn it to hell, that was an exciting sequence, with a yelp-inducing cut to commercial.

Daryl was the Voice of the People when he called Lori a dumb bitch for running off, but his cruel dressing down of Carol was quite uncomfortable to watch.

Poor Glenn. He didn't even get in a Daniel Bryan moment when Maggie ran up to hug him after they got back to the farm. Glenn should have let Maggie hug her and then looked into the camera. Now Glenn has to deal with his yellow streak.

Everyone crapped on Shane this week except Andrea, but to play Devil's Advocate, Shane cleaned up Lori's mess and got her back. Whatever Lori suspects as his motivations, he saved her and brought her back home to her son. But all Lori sees is a dangerous guy, which Shane is.

With Shane and Andrea and later Lori and Rick, there was a lot of Greek tragedy-style women whispering in their men's ears to incite them to take violent action against the enemy.

Also, it occurred to me when Rick took off his shirt in the tent, if he grew his hair out, he'd look a lot like Jesus. Rick already has a Messiah complex.

Everyone's got an opinion about Shane and Rick and what to do next, but none of these crackers on the farm ever ask T-Dogg what he thinks.

Finally, how much time has passed since Carl was shot? He's made a remarkable recovery for a kid with a hole in his chest still healing.

This week, I absolutely would make the same decision as Shane. Lying to Lorie to get her back to the farm was the right call. Hurt, scared, and not anyone's first pick for a search and rescue mission in any case, Lorie should have been heading back, not toward town.

On the other hand, to back up my point about Shane being reckless, when he found out Lorie was missing, he jumped into a car by himself and took off after her. No plan, no preparation, just reaction. Not such a big deal this time, but it's another indicator of his thought process and why he's actually even more dangerous than Rick, whose exaggerated sense of compassion was also on full display this week. I agree with Hershel on that: a bullet would have been the best kindness there.

That's this week's Walking Dead What Would You Have Done moral and ethical question: Would you have left Randall? Let him get eaten by Walkers? Tried to free him and save him? Put a bullet in his head as a mercy?

I felt like from a logistical standpoint, they were wasting ammo shooting Walkers while Herschel was trying to cut the kid's leg off. I know I yelled at the TV when Rick demanded they save him, and it wasn't a yell for that idea. Mind you, this is the same Rick that left Merle handcuffed to the roof of the building in season one to get eaten by Walkers, presumably. Rick's not looking to make a pattern out of past choices like that. What would I do? I think I would have just skedaddled. Sorry, kid I don't know whose buddies were just shooting at me and was also trying to earlier.

Personally I felt the most sorry for the guy who Herschel shot, and subsequently got his face munched off by a walker. Actually one of the more gruesome things I've seen on this show. I can't say I've seen any of Scott Wilson's work before but his facial tics are up there with John Noble's.

I'm pretty sure I'd put a bullet in Randall.
Though forcefully lifting him wasn't a bad idea either.
The whole "let's cut off his leg" idea was stupid to even try.

Lori is really annoying.
She acts so random, and when Shane confronts her with his emotions (wether he is right or wrong is another story) she basically tells her husband it's time to shoot him.

Daryl going off the handle came across as someone who actually did care (about not saving the girl) and tries to hide it. We'll see where that goes.

Oh, Rick's an idiot for giving away they were there.

Lifting Randall off wasn't an option due to how the fence spike was shaped. It had "wings" (or whatever) on the sides of the spike.

At least now they have the option of interrogating Randall and finding out just how many of the Others there are. Unless of course they just dump him on the side of the road without asking him anything...

Or unless Shane plugs him in the head first. With his instability, I wouldn't doubt it.

I'm loving this show more and more for its view on humanity during a disaster. We're all about progressing as humans until the great disaster hits, then it's suddenly every-man-for-himself. In the face of disaster, rather than banding together to survive as a species, everyone seems to be turning on one another the more time goes on. It's really pretty fascinating.

My wife suggested they should rename the show from Walking Dead to Lori Grimes does something stupid. Same woman who pre-ordered Mass Effect III for me which I had a hard on now after seeing the preview during the show. I am a lucky guy.

Again, I would have at least shot the guy and went about my business. Of course, I do agree the information he has it is very valuable. Especially if he is in league with Him. So, again, a short term solution is to leave someone to die when the long term solution is to save that person to get information. Even in the zombie Apocalypse, information is almost important as bullets, food and a safe place.

The lines are being drawn on who is on Team Shane and who is on Team Rick. I felt bad for Glen and I am a bit annoyed by the I can't be with you for blah blah blah reason. Johnny hit it on the mark Lori is playing the role of the villainous queen to a tee. I am not saying Shane shouldn't be taken out, but I got a feeling that taking Shane out will cause a break in Rick. Lori may have replaced one out of control heartless dude for another.

"We're lookin' for Dave & Tony. No one checks the damn bar?" Favourite line of the show.

We have the Others outside, asking about Rick & Tony, & it's pretty clear that there's somebody inside the bar. Of the possibilities for how to proceed, Rick opts for "They drew on us."??? If you're going for a discussion strategy, that's the one you go with? Inside my head, I was screaming at Rick, "Lie, you idiot!" How about, "No, we haven't seen your friends."? Or, "They were bit before we got here & had to shoot them." How the hell was telling the truth going to be helpful in that situation? Sooo, moments later, when Shane scooped up Lori, & he immediately lied to her to get her to behave like a reasonable person, I laughed my ass off. (Also inside my head.)

Randall's pals didn't even make an effort to see if there was anything to be done about him, did they? If I were Randall, I think I'd probably be perfectly thrilled to change affiliation to the team that rescued me. There'd have to be some pretty compelling reason back at the Others' camp that I'd want to go back to them. That doesn't seem to be an option that Shane & Andrea, or even Rick, seem to be considering.

When they were trying to sort out the Randall dilemma, I loved that it was Herschel who floated the option of "putting him down." What Rick ultimately did really should have been in the top 2 of the list of options though.

The scene with Daryl projecting his hurt onto Carol was such a powerful scene. I kept thinking about that horribly abusive husband that she'd had. While she certainly didn't deserve that, she was in a unique position to be able to absorb it. She might even have been feeling that she deserved it, & may have been cathartic for her too. Really powerful scene.

Lori hasn't "told" either of the guys anything. When she kind of admitted to Rick that she'd been with Shane, it was all Rick offering up "you thought I was dead, it was the end of the world", etc. When she tells Shane, it was all Shane offering up "you told him you thought he was dead", yada-yada. I'm bothered that neither one of them will shut up & let her say her version of it. There's going to be discussion of Lori being manipulative, but I'm not going to be very sympathetic to that, given the way that the boys are so preemptive of her.

Nice dis to Herschel by Maggie. OK, she was hurt & scared that he'd bailed, but a "hey, dad - glad you're not dead" on the way to Glenn would have been nice.

"We need to talk about Shane. .. He thinks the baby's his. No matter what, it's yours." She said something like that before, when Rick found out she's pregnant. Even if the baby comes out with a pre-broken nose, & gigantic ears, it's yours. Rick is taking this awfully well, somehow. (Somebody tweeted the new showrunner Glen Mazzara, asking if Lori & Shane had been more than friends before the Zombiepocalypse, & he said no. I'm still feeling more subtext there though.)

This is not Lost. I need to keep reminding myself that it's OK to lighten up on the expectations for the fiddly bits. But they need to promise to try to do better too. Right in the "last time on Walking Dead", we recapped Lori's car accident, & it was mid- to late afternoon. When Dave & Tony came into the bar, it was also afternoon. During the bar shootout, it was still daylight outside, & definitely light inside. First thing this episode, Lori's waking up to a zombie, in the dark. That's fine - we don't know how long she was out. Back to the bar, it's dark outside when we hear the shots. It's dark inside the bar, & we're clearly picking back up immediately after the shooting. Then, it was all the way til the next morning before Rick et al got back to the farm. We need a little work on the continuity here, please.

You've probably seen more of Scott Wilson's work than you realise. An amazing underrated character actor.

Lines are being drawn. Shane is for sure dead by the season's close - I'm just worried Daryl's going with him in a blaze of glory.

Best episode of the season, so far, by far.

Herschel stepped up when needed, Meggan vented at him out of frustration over Glen, Carol recognizes Darryl is a wounded mutt, we got good zombie action, The MegaPowers are about to explode, and Andrea's crush on Shane is gonna get ugly when she finds out he can't get over Lori.

If Lori's baby is a boy, can we call him Walker?

I dont think I have hated a character on TV more than Lori. I was praying to GOD she was dead or eaten by a zombie. She pisses me off so much.

After Lori, I can't stand Dale. I hate his reaction shots and I hope Shane kills him soon. He pisses me off too.

But the show has gotten better each week.

Here's a Chekhov's Gun I'm anticipating at some point, cause there's a chance Merle's going to come back at some point.

I assume he is like most of us, guy with no tracking ability what so ever so he is the lookout when the rest of them go out on missions. I like this idea better than guy that digs holes, picks things up and puts them down and who occasionally smashes zombie heads with blunt objects.

His weekly 'Andrea you can't do this ...' act is really old. The character himself isn't terrible, I don't think I'm a huge fan of the actor playing him though.

I have no problem with Shane lying to Lori in that spot. Especially after she went on a mission to go get Rick who was already getting Herschel because the girl that was sick seemed sicker than she was when Rick left. All that work to get Herschel and he gives her a drug.

Also that zombie that jobbed to Lori by getting some kind of foreign object to the eye, could have been a real hero. Darryl should have saved his angry rant for her.

Randall should be running around on his own in two weeks.

I expected Daryl's brother to be one of the shooters outside.

All in all a good episode, I'm looking forward to next week's show.

Seems like Dale has become the worst Greek tragedy woman of all of them. He whispers to Lori about suspecting that Shane killed Otis. He whispers to Andrea about what a bad guy Shane is. He was pretty pathetic in the direct confrontation with Shane out in the swamp, over the guns,. So any more he's fallen back to trying to get the women to run his agenda. In season 1, he seemed more useful, more likeable, & generally brought some people wisdom to the party, but that's fallen away.

I haven't, although it seems like pretty much everybody that goes on Talking Dead has. I assume that the comic is still chronologically some amount ahead of the show. I've gotten the impression that the show pretty much follows the comic, & that's the strategy for the forseeable future. (Was Banrmageddon in the comic?) I'm pleasantly surprised, although a little bit baffled, that there hasn't been a significant spoiler problem from that.
