As someone who doesn't watch live TV, what are the shows I should be checking out on Netflix/hulu etc.

I'm sure this will get jacked for a wider range of things very quickly (as it should) but since I'm starting it:

*Does not need to be recent
*extra bonus for good SF/F recommendations
*Animated YES PLEASE (anime is fine if available for streaming)
*incredibly insane K-dramas etc. also bonus points (seriously, why is no one recapping THESE on this board?)

I went on a serious British TV binge and there are happily a lot of great shows available on Netflix for streaming:

Sherlock
Downton Abbey
Luther

On Hulu+

Misfits

I would start with Sherlock because it's phenomenal.

Oh, a recent house guest pointed us toward 'Little Britain' too, that looked promising if occasionally the kind of embarrassing humor I dislike (I rarely get through a whole episode of either version of The Office). Think sketch comedy as if done by a British version of Trailer Park Boys

I just watched the first four seasons of Burn Notice on Netflix in a week while I was sick this past December. Fantastic show.

My daughter just got into the animated Avatar series which is also available streaming on Netflix.

I'll add The IT Crowd to this list of great British shows. I know I've rewatched all of the episodes multiple times.

I don't know if Dorm Life is still on Hulu, but it is an absolutely hilarious web series. The first season is 20 episodes which are all around 5-10 minutes long. Some of the funniest sitcom-style jokes I have ever seen are in there. My wife and I watched it about 3 years ago and we still crack jokes from all the time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorm_Life

The second season... not so good. Watchable but ehhhhhhhhhhhh.

It is so so so awesome. If all you know about this series is from the horrible live action movie... go watch it. It is one of the best series of any kind ever.

So very true. We had the trial of Netflix and extended it by a month just so my girls and I could watch the whole series. We ended up getting the complete series on DVD for Christmas. AWESOME show.

Phineas and Ferb is also available on Netflix and is a lot of fun.

It's not a TV series, more like a series of wrestling gags, but I recently discovered Cold Cabana's "Creative Has Nothing For You" and they are GREAT

Currently 34 90 second bits so easy peasy to marathon.

Avatar is one of my favorite TV series EVER. I think it is one of the best written, directed and voice acted series ever. I watched them all on Nickelodeon and still catch the repeats.

Phineas and Ferb is great too. At first I resisted, but I laugh a few times at each episode.

Ditto for Burn Notice. Great show.

Breaking Bad

If you're not watching T.V. you probably haven't been able to run into this gem of a show. Netflix has the first 3 seasons available. Many people (including myself) place this show as possibly the best series to ever show up on television.

THIS IS A MUST SEE SHOW. (obviously, it's in caps!)

After that, you get the luxury of doing what it takes to Season 4. It's a rare show that keeps getting better after each episode.

One of the main reasons I got Netflix was so that I could watch the first couple of seasons of BURN NOTICE that I had never seen. Same with PSYCH.

The first season was good; subsequent ones are the same jokes repeated again and again and again and again.

Fringe has been the best SF show in recent years, especially seasons 2-3. (The current season has been disappointing so far.) John Noble's acting alone makes it essential.

It only lasted 13 episodes, but Terriers was wonderful.

I will agree with all these recommendations and also add the BBC's Robin Hood, Top Gear, That Mitchell and Webb Look and of course Doctor Who, come on people.

As for non-British shows: Sports Night, Monk, Home Movies, Samurai 7 (anime based on Kurosawa's Seven Samurai), 24, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Burn Notice, Buffy, Angel, Bones, Arrested Development. Tons of stuff on Netflix Streaming, never understood the people that said there isn't enough on there.
