| #1 Posted on 26.1.12 1540.49 Reposted on: 26.1.19 1540.53 | It had been rumored for a couple weeks, but with the updated PPV schedule, it seems official: WWE has killed the Money in the Bank July PPV and according to Meltzer it will return to Wrestlemania.
It seemed like a much longer national nightmare, but as it turns out, only one Wrestlemania, last year's, ended up going without the traditional ladder match. And I thought it really hurt the overall card, replacing one guaranteed great action match with important consequences that put a lot of deserving people on the show with a couple of short, meaningless, bad multi-person tag matches.
On the other hand, the two MITB PPVs in 2010 and 2011 were each one of, if not the best PPVs of the year. But the match belongs at Wrestlemania and the gimmick works a lot better with one case per year.
Currently, MITB the PPV will be replaced by TLC. December is now Bragging Rights and June brings back Fatal Four Way, so they're only missing all-submissions Breaking Point in going back to three of the worst-drawing, dumbest PPV gimmicks they've come up with.
This year's Mania's top four matches all feature a part-time act (Rock, Taker, HHH, Shaq, and Jericho if he's taking time off for a summer Fozzy tour) so MITB will take care of a lot of people. Dolph Ziggler, Wade Barrett, and Cody Rhodes all seem primed for bigger heel roles this year, although they won't all necessarily be in the match as there'll be room for a couple more singles matches. Foley vs. Ziggler seems unlikely to me with all the other special attraction matches booked so he would be my choice to win. But we have another month to go before the match and who's in it get confirmed. Promote this thread! | | CRZ

And let's not kid ourselves, the MITB matches were the least of what made that show awesome this year.
Now they have another guaranteed buys match for Mania that they will need even more if this is Taker's last year. | Mayhem

Personally, I would love to see someone cash it in that night. The problem with MITB and the WWE is that it seems everyone has had a title run or two anymore. | #8 Posted on 26.1.12 1855.57 Reposted on: 26.1.19 1856.29 | I say let Evan Bourne win it this year and wait until his good buddy John Cena gets the belt back so he can challenge him in a friendly title match in June, the 10th anniversary of Cena's debut and the Month Where Cool Stuff Happens. And then Cena can finally snap at the audacity of Bourne to challenge him and turn heel by literally killing him (hence, the switch to Fatal Four Way), which they would downgrade to something slightly less that literal death the next night, and then they can quietly release Bourne from his contract for whichever wellness violation infraction he manages to hit between April and June.
Failing that, Kofi, Ziggler, Swagger, Christian, Slater, Gabriel, Truth and let's say a returning RVD would be a fine field, with Slater as the designated guy who repeatedly falls off the ladder through tables seven or eight times as the secret MVP of the match. | Ecks

| #10 Posted on 26.1.12 2209.17 Reposted on: 26.1.19 2211.12 | I am not happy with this. The MITB PPV was one of the more fun shows to look forward to in the second half of the year. Yes, Punk vs. Cena made the '11 version into something special, but the 2 MITB matches were always great matches that usually yielded creative ways for a guy to break into the "main event" spot by winning the belt.
Wrestlemania doesn't need the MITB match to draw and again MITB was the one newer gimmick show that did draw (relative to the other PPV shows). Fatal Four Way? Really? Furthermore, guys who probably would not have won a one-off WM MITB match, will not get the chance to shine. This is particulary true I think for a guy like Daniel Bryan who is currently enjoying a fun World Title run and high Smackdown ratings.
I personally think that this is being done because this will be one more nail in the coffin for the brand split (I know, there isn't much of a brand split anyways). | Moss

Only 1 briefcase and the show at WM is a great decision. Too bad so many of the other PPVs are still lame.

Because of the two MITB matches on the card, it was usually a guaranteed thumbs-up show and one that was fun to watch. Too many WWE PPV's aren't that these days. | odessasteps

It's good to see this tragedy has restored their friendship. Removing the ppv and bringing back th match at WM only means that Mania itself will be more exciting. The match always gave people the chance to steal the show.
And even though it means Fatal-4-way and Bragging Rights are on the menu again, doesn't have to mean they cannot tweak those concepts or still move stuff around. At least that dreaded 13th ppv is gone. That killed everything.

But I do think it needs MITB to fulfill its full potential as a card.
Sheamus wrestled Daniel Bryan to a no-contest (dark) Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston defeated The Corre (1:35) Snooki, Trish Stratus, and John Morrison defeated Dolph Ziggler and LayCool (4:00)
OR
Daniel Bryan won the Money in the Bank ladder match over Sheamus, Wade Barrett, Kofi Kingston, Big Show, Kane, John Morrison, and Dolph Ziggler (14:00)

It is my favorite, but there is also the pretty great one that Vince didn't think of ... War Games.
I also like King of the Ring when it was all about being King of the Ring, but that really is something that is better seeing once every three years.

Go back to the way it was, with eight guys (four from each brand) all fighting each other for one title shot. I'd imagine this decision was made in light of how many guys were getting hurt in these matches.
The timing of this is terrible for Cody Rhodes. Had the match happened in July, I'd have said he's primed to win it. But if it's happening at Wrestlemania, he'll be bogged down in a feud with his brother. | GRL

Rhodes for Mania - while not a match I'm dying to see - could be the perfect thing to help Cody stand OUT from any MitB match. I will say Dustin definitely hooked me in with his first family feud... WAYYY back with Dad against Dibiase and Virgil. So I'd be up for that one.
I'd also hope Ziggler gets the rumored Foley match and not MitB. I'd much rather see MitB be saved up for a guy like Justin Gabriel or even R-Truth. |
