I'm sorry-- WHAT?! He's not in the Hall yet??

What's the rule on eligibility? I thought it was 5 years after retiring. This guy is one of the top 10 (maybe top 5) receivers of all time. I just assumed he was in already.

I hope they take into account the WCW record of this two sport superstar.

There's disagreement about Wide Receivers, causing a bit of a backlog. You'll notice Cris Carter and Andre Reed are also in the finalists list. And in the last 5 years Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, and Art Monk were inducted. The problem is the explosion in passing has made it so that the previous standards make no sense. When Charlie Joiner retired in 1986, he had the most receiving yards in NFL history with 12,146, and he made it into the hall on his 5th year of eligibilty. He's now 17th all time, and not all the guys ahead of him are getting in. Not saying I disagree with you about Tim Brown's worth, but that's the reason why he's not in yet.

Among guys in the top 20 for receiving yards:
Jerry Rice, James Lofton, Steve Largent, Art Monk, Charlie Joiner, and Michael Irvin are already in the hall.
Carter, Reed, and Brown are finalists this year.
Jimmy Smith, Irving Fryar, and Henry Ellard are eligible, but were not finalists this year.
Marvin Harrison will be eligible in 2013.
Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt will be eligible in 2014.
Terrell Owens and Randy Moss will be eligible in 2015.
And Tony Gonzalez (though not a WR), Hines Ward, and Derrick Mason will be eligible 5 years after they retire.

In other news, I don't like how coaches and executives are in the same list as the players. Eddie DeBartolo (or Bill Parcells, or Ron Wolf, who were preliminary nominees) doesn't deserve to get in ahead of a player, in my opinion. They should be separate.

Personally, i would vote for a number of people who didnt make the finistover both brown and carter.l

Parcells going in before don coryell is a shame.

You can only have a maximum of five at a time, right? Man. Some tough cuts to be made here.

I don't know much about Butler and Stanfel, so I'll say no based on pure ignorance on my part. Williams, Kennedy, DeBartolo, Greene, Doleman and Haley all get nos from me. Hmm, so I hate defensive players?

So that leaves nine guys for five slots. I'll say Bettis, Parcells, Shields, Brown, Roaf and promise to vote for the other four next year.

Parcells is a lock to get in. He has rings and a large coaching tree that has won super bowls. This should be Chris Carter's year. Dawson will get in as the lone Steeler. Charles Haley will be the lone Cowboy meeting the Cowboys and Steelers quota. Curtis Martin and Doleman will round out the others. Good to see Greene on the list.

Minimum 4, maximum 7. 80% approval by voters unless there would be less than 4 or more than 7. Senior committee voters are usually pretty likely to be selected.

In that case, add Carter and Martin to my original list of five (Bettis, Parcells, Shields, Brown, Roaf).

A guy who never could get his team to a Super Bowl should get in before a guy who's won two? How's that logic work?

I'm crossing my fingers for Cortez Kennedy but I'm a biased Seahawks fan and the rest of the eligible list means he's got quite a hill to climb. The man was a BEAST but certainly did it in obscurity playing where he did.

I dunno; as this WCW fan recalls, he only wrestled three matches for WCW, going 2-1 with the loss being when Mongo turned on him to join The Four Horsemen.

That doesn't sound right. Didn't Kev have a match with the Giant that ended with him charging into a chokeslam for the loss?
