The Muppets originally had a different ending (badassdigest.com).

Reshoots and script changes are nothing new in movie making but the weird things in the ending that turned me off weren't there originally.

I've never watched anything with the Muppets except Babies, but Bret McKenzie says working on the film has inspired him to make a Flight of the Conchords movie, so for me that makes the whole project a major success beyond letting Jason Segel play with his favorite toys.

The Muppets director also directed the Conchords show and basically said the same thing. REALLY wish Jermaine could've been in Muppets.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge John Orquiola fan/Back of the Head devotee, but our reactions to this movie were so diametrically opposed that I'm wondering if he's not also wrong about the Pin-Up Strong team of Beth Phoenix and Natalya.

Man, that ending sounds a lot better along with the Tex subplot. But it would have been hard to greenlight a kid's movie that was 2 1/2 hours and not called Harry Potter.

Interesting re: Statler and Waldorf giving the last dollar. I was convinced that the ending was going to be Zack Snuffleuffagus giving over that five-spot he "earned" by showing someone to their seats. I figured there had to be a reason for that bit, but guess not.

After having read all of these replies, I'm convinced that this movie is going to make a bazillion dollars if we get a Muppets: Director's Cut on Blu-Ray. There's no reason why we shouldn't get one at some point.

I finally saw this movie for myself and I do get John's points, but the great jokes and cameos far outweighed any misguided focus on new characters.

What I came out of this movie with was that this was a very entertaining kids movies, filled with actual jokes and clever meta humor. Why can't THIS be what modern kids movies are? You could have used this same kind of formula and ended up with a GREAT Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks movie instead of the crap that we're constantly fed instead. It is just glaring how groan-inducing the new Alvin & The Chipmunks movie looks compared to The Muppets and there's no reason why that should be the case.

This X 1,000,000. Yet Smurfs made nearly $400 mil. And that's the problem. Until a crapfest like Smurfs or Alvin bombs, they will keep phoning it in. Something like the Muppets only gets made because Segal and Co. loved the project.

PS. My friend and I decided the perfect choice for the Telathon Host...Christopher Walken

I think Johnny O. has lost his mind. I laughed, I cried and I wish I was rich and famous enough to punch Chris Cooper in the face and hand Kermit $10 million dollars. I liked the end, because it didn't come down to money, it came down to them being a family through good and bad, because that what family is. Perhaps a better ending was another cameo or cameos of a historical society making the theater a historical place as well as Muppet Studios. The Muppet name was too much probably. Loved bringing back the contract. Regardless, I thought it was great and can't wait for my kid to born to show it to her. Loved it.

The future Missus and I saw the Muppets on Saturday...we both enjoyed it. It was better than I thought it would be.

Finally got to see it and it was great!

I really loved the parts where they talked about the movie during the movie. This can be overdone, but here it was just the right amount.

I thought it was really clever and there was enough humor for kids and adults.

My only problem was knowing that the Muppet Show was filmed in England and that there was no Muppet Studios in Hollywood. Minor thing.

I really liked the Toy Story short as well. So many clever Happy Meal toys-as well as Condorman, which was an actual movie that I remember bombing as a kid.
