| #1 Posted on 6.11.11 1524.39 Reposted on: 6.11.18 1526.00 | When the episode started, and the Justice League members like Superman, Batman, both Green Lanterns, and Captains Atom and Marvel were easily dispatched by the invading aliens, I was ready to declare this the worst Young Justice episode ever. I thought they really screwed the pooch, that obviously the JLA aren't dead but it'd be a hackneyed "the adults are gone, the kids will do what they couldn't and save the world" scenario.
Instead, this was a particularly great episode. I didn't see the solution coming: that the Young Justice kids were actually in a virtual reality Kobiyashi Maru (seemed like the writers strained to not call it "Kobiyashi Maru"). The writing really dug deep into the relationships between the characters. I loved Robin taking charge with Aqualad's "demise". I loved Kid Flash's anguish when Artemis "died". And fuck, I wanted to cry when M'gann was bawling at the end in Captain Marvel's arms. She's the most powerful Martian telepath J'onn J'onzz has ever encountered.
Poor Superboy, constantly mistaken for Superman. "Superman has a Fortress of Solitude? I guess there's a lot I'll never know about Superman." Why is Superman such a dick on this show? Promote this thread! | | lotjx

It was a good episode for being a TNG holodeck mission. I am not sure if Meggan's reveal is really that important. If it was a foreshadowing episode that Aqualad is going to die, KF and Artemis are going to get together and that the league is going to fall then this might be the Justice Lords episodes that helped kick start the JLU. | It's False

But the post-training exercise revelations were really interesting. I like that they're potentially teasing that Miss Martian could be a bigger threat than anyone could have imagined.
This episode didn't feel relevant to the current season arc, but it feels pretty relevant to the series as a whole. | El Nastio

I wouldn't it condone it, but even just the former would give Superman a reason to be upset about the whole situation.
Think about boys/men who have unexpected kids. Sometimes they'll say "I never wanted this to happen!" and I think that's where Superman is at with this. He feel violated, and certainly doesn't want the responsibility of a child.
Contrast that with Batman, who this time around is being looked at someone reasonable. This is also not entirely out of left field, Batman has actually always been good with kids in the comics. Dick, Tim, later on Stephanie Brown, the Blue Beetle. Him taking on this role on the show makes excellent sense.
A good episode, and I'm pretty sure it will set something up in the future. Such as, I dunno, white martians. | John Orquiola

Although, and this is a totally different continuity, when his 15 year old cousin crashed on Earth, Superman jumped at the chance to be her guardian and went toe to toe with his two peers he respects the most to keep her with him. Then he went to another planet in another dimension with them to get her back when she was kidnapped.
Anyway, as someone who expects the best from Superman (which isn't to say always doing his best is easy for Superman, it shouldn't be) the lack of Superman as an influential figure - contrasted with the omnipresence of Batman - is really my only gripe with Young Justice. Because from what's been established, Superman's main cause for being completely hands off with Young Justice is that the clone creeps him out. | El Nastio

Kara isn't a half-breed. And his relationship with Conner was established before they knew he was a clone, so he'd be more likely to accept it.
I like this very flawed version of Superman, personally, because I'd probably feel violated too. | Llakor

Also Kara was his baby-sitter. (Admittedly, one that he had difficulty remembering, but the fact that she knew Kal-El when he was a baby and his Mom and Dad made a huge difference.) | John Orquiola

| #8 Posted on 7.11.11 0859.32 Reposted on: 7.11.18 0900.00 | I understand Superman feeling violated by his DNA being stolen for a clone, but avoiding any and all responsibility or even curiosity towards his clone strikes me as weird. Un-Superman-like. Kara is his blood relative, but my point was Superman has shown in the past he takes a very personal interest in anyone and anything related to Krypton - especially family, which Superboy arguably is, or at least half of a younger version of himself - so why wouldn't a clone of him elicit that same sense of responsibility, or at least curiosity? Months have passed since the series began. Superman has had plenty of time to get over "feeling violated."
As for Superman "not being as great with kids" as Batman, no, he hasn't spent his entire superheroic career cultivating young boys and girls to wage war on crime with him, but again, when Kara showed up, he jumped at the chance to have both family and a young partner to spend time with.

| #9 Posted on 7.11.11 1450.09 Reposted on: 7.11.18 1451.43 | As an aside from the Superman being a dick conversation, John mentioned a few threads ago that this is probably the most powerful version of the league ever. Apparently, according to TV Tropes, there are sixteen (apparently 16 is an important number in the show, as Conner is 16 weeks old, Miss Martian is 16 years old in Martian years, and it takes place on Earth 16) members total in the league (not counting reserves).
Aquaman Black Canary Captain Atom Captain Marvel Flash Green Arrow Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) Green Lantern (John Stewart) Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) Hawkwoman Hawkman Martian Manhunter Red Tornado Superman Wonder Woman Zatara
You have three uber top tier power houses (Captain Marvel, Captain Atom and Superman). Wonder Woman could arguably make that four. The Martian has an insane powerset. The fastest man alive. One of the best martial artists in the world. A A+ magic user. THREE GREEN LANTERNS.
How can this team ever lose? | lotjx

| #10 Posted on 7.11.11 1516.17 Reposted on: 7.11.18 1516.20 | Thats the nice thing about Young Justice which is they are the black ops of the League. While the League is fighting some plants that threaten the world, YJ is going after the people who did this. Its a nice change of pace of the bright colored teenage superheroes. Its X-Force DC with Batman as Wolverine. The League is the X-Men who are the face of mutants while X-Force does the dirty work no one wants or should see.
I have to say, it is weird to see Superman be Super-Dick, but I like it. It makes sense to me considering the last time someone screwed around with Superman's DNA, you got Doomsday at least in the JLU. So, I would be as skeptical and probably as pissed as Sups. It will make for a nice moment when they reconcile. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
