Yeah, as a Calgarian I'm segued into the glut of Canadian Football faithful who support the Calgary Stampeders. Or did. Because now, the Stamps are 0-4. Worst start in years. Last year, they started 0-3, ended 8-10, and ended up winning the league championship due to the retarded rules (four team divisions, all but last place team make playoffs, first-place team gets a bye).

I would like to speak for the fans of Canadian football. And for both of us I say, let's hope the Stampeders turn it the hell around. I've been rooting for them ever since I saw Flutie throwing the ball around like a crazy man to like 6 different recievers. Ah the fun.

P.S. - Just for the record, I've never been to Calgary, and have only seen the Stampeders play live once, in Toronto. And the only really stupid thing in the CFL is having two teams with the same name (the Roughriders and the Rough Riders). Go figure.

Irony: noun. A sequence of events or a singular event, the outcome of which is the exact opposite of the intended outcome.

I misspelled "worst". Wost. Hell, I'm almost as bad as the Stamps!

Example of CFL Playoff Structure:

WEST DIVISION
Eskimos [ 10 wins, 8 losses: 20 points]
Roughriders [ 8 wins, 10 losses: 16 points]
Stampeders [2 wins, 16 losses: 4 points]
Lions [ 1 win, 17 losses: 2 points]

EAST DIVISION
Alouettes [ 12 wins, 6 losses: 24 points]
Blue Bombers [10 wins, 8 losses: 20 points]
Tiger Cats [ 8 wins, 10 losses: 16 points]
Argonauts [ 6 wins, 12 losses: 12 points]

OLD SYSTEM:
The Eskimos and Alouettes would get byes. Roughriders vs. Stampders in Western Semifinal, Blue Bombers vs. Tiger Cats in East Semi-Final. Winners of Semis face respective bye teams, and the winners of those games play for the Grey Cup.

NEW SYSTEM: Since the Argonauts [the last place East team] has more points than the Stampeders [4 to 12], the Argonauts would take the Stampeders' place in the playoffs; So, it would be Blue Bombers vs. Tiger Cats and Roughriders vs. Argonauts in the semi-finals. Makes for a lot fewer shit teams making it into the playoffs.

And the Roughrider thing isn't that complicated:
There WERE The Saskatewan Roughriders [one word] and the Ottawa Rough Riders [two words]. They're called the Green Riders, and the Rough Riders. Or, they were. Y'see, Ottawa folded and recently returned as the Ottawa Renegades.

so, which team is the former Baltimore, MD, USA team that [almost?] took the grey cup, or did they just get folded by an angry CFL board
i know they got to the Cup final their first year out, and lost, and i'm pretty sure they took the cup in their second [and final?] year

There were actually several American teams. The first four were the Sacramento Gold Rush, Las Vegas Posse, Shreveport Pirates, and the Baltimore Unnamed Team (CFL Colts). The year after they added two more but lost the Las Vegas franchise. At this point, all the American teams were struggling, so they folded all the clubs but Baltimore, and they became the new Montreal Alouettes, which hadn't been around in 9 years.

PR: If you ask Dean nicely, he will tell you about how much he used to love the Stallions (Baltimore being close to Richmond helped) and how that love transfered to the Alouettes.

And Thank God the Alouettes fixed their helmets.

Of course, they blew a lot of their good will with me by signing Lawrence Phillips.

And it should be the OTTAWA BY-TOWNERS DAMMIT!!!!

I remember the old Memphis CFL team....

...that was around for one year, and then folded. Ah, how Memphians long for days when the football teams we had simply left town instead of folded. Of course, I can't say I understand the logistics of a CFL team in the US... makes about as much sense as, say, an NBA team in Vancouver. Oh, wait, that's the one thing Memphis did right.
And I think we all know that the American NHL teams are only there for the misplaced Canadians anyway. :)

The Baltimore Stallions did defeat Calgary in the 1995 Grey Cup final after the losing on a field goal in the last play of the game to B.C. in 1994(when still the Baltimore CFLers after that dickhead Bob Irsay created the CFL Colts fiasco).

Baltimore, incidently is the only team to win a championship in the NFL(1958, 1959, 1968, 1970, 2000), USFL(1985 Baltimore Stars), and CFL.

My apologies to the fans from Sacramento - that was the team I couldn't quite remember the name of. I checked cfl.ca, but maybe I copied wrong.

P.S. - nice UHF quote
