Once again, a great looking book where nothing really happens. The piranha men from The Trench eat people as "FOOD". Meanwhile, Aquaman and Mera look at old photos and plan to do surface people stuff. A deputy sheriff shows up at the door for some cleverly blatant exposition and brings in the King and Queen of Atlantis to investigate killings a few harbor towns over. Aquaman and Mera get mocked by the local police and then the Trenchermen attack and there's a fight. I do want to see where this goes (could it be... to The Trench?!?) but as a continuing monthly purchase, Aquaman's all wet. I like it more than Green Lantern, though.
Superman #2. It bums me out Batman has four New 52 books, Superman only has two and the book bearing his name isn't very good. Superman faces an alien creature that everyone else can see but he can't. Eventually, Lois figures this out, and it's a good thing she said it aloud from her office because Superman was able to hear her with his Super Hearing. Once realizes cameras can see the monster, he uses this to his advantage, smashes it into an electronics store with camera and flatscreen TVs, and the fight is all Superman. There's a mystery of why the fire monster last month and creature this month all say the word "Krypton" to him, but so much of the book feels off. It doesn't seem like Superman, and what's "new" and "different" about about it isn't particularly pleasing. Action Comics, still a keeper. Superman, no.
All Star Western #2. Less story but more action as Jonah Hex takes out twelve gun slinging bad guys. The Crime Bible is introduced into New 52 continuity as the city fathers of Gotham are revealed as evil worshippers of the Crime Bible. It helps that I read Scott Snyder's Gates of Gotham last weekend, the historical aspects of Gotham's creation from it I presume are still in continuity. I wonder if any of this will lead to a depiction of the Court of Owls from Snyder's Batman?
Whittling down what I'm buying even more for next month:
Action Comics Animal Man Swamp Thing Batman and Robin Batgirl Frankenstein Batman Supergirl Wonder Woman All Star Western
Maybe Justice League Dark too. I'll check out #2 at some point and see how that's going. Unless someone already did and wants to add it...
