Batman and Robin #2. It's terrific. Damian Wayne is a ticking time bomb. Bruce wants to be a better father to him but struggles in how to nurture him away from the instinct to kill Damian's mother Talia instilled in him. Damian meanwhile restrains himself in battle but then Alfred watches him in the shadows of the Batcave snap the neck of a bat and toss it into the abyss. Ooh. Damian is by far the most interesting Robin in my eyes. Plus Bruce decides to buy a dog - a Great Dane! (Ace!) And then Bruce is confronted by Morgan (who is Morgan, anyone know?), the man who murdered the Batman Inc. of Russia last issue. This Morgan has a well-articulated beef with Batman for the Batman Incorporated concept. And I concur, but for different reasons. Also, I love the Batmobile in this book, a cross between Michael Keaton's car and Christian Bale's Tumbler.

Green Lantern #2. Geoff Johns and DC charge $2.99 for one 25 page conversation between Hal Jordan and Sinestro. Sinestro bullies Hal (he's never heard of Don't Be a Bully, Be a Star) with a new Power Ring Sinestro created and takes away repeatedly. Hal's not even really a character in this issue, he's just a straw man rag doll Sinestro tosses around. Sinestro shows up Hal in saving a bridge full of people and they kill a Sinestro Corps monster while Sinestro chides Hal for not using his ring like a fascist when Hal was Green Lantern. Finally, in the last panel of the last page we get to the easily-guessed point: Sinestro wants Jordan to come with him to Korugar and liberate it from the Sinestro Corps. No kidding. Everything in the last two issues could have been handled in one and we could have been in Korugar already by issue 2. Just wait for the trade, if ever. Art's pretty, though.

I'm not proud of myself. I limited myself to three comics and because I couldn't decide on Frankenstein or Demon Knights, I decided to go with Green Lantern #2. I won't be
doing that again.

Batgirl #2. The best compliment I can pay Batgirl is that it's like reading The Hunger Games. I find the book to have a smart, pleasing, singular POV with a distinct, heroic female voice. A lot of terrible stuff happens - or will happen - as Batgirl's detective work uncovers who The Mirror is what what the secret is behind his mysterious list. Batgirl gets the crap kicked out of her, and at least one instance where she plummets from a building and slams back-first into the side of a cab should have re-paralyzed her if not killed her outright. I liked the cabbie chewing her out: "You Bat People--!" The theme of miracles is in full play; while she now dates her physical therapist and her new roommate has suspicions about why she comes home bruised and battered, Barbara Gordon won't discuss the "miracle" that allowed her to walk again. The Mirror inverts the idea of "miracles" being something desirable for people. I like where this is going, and this book.

Gail Simone Tweeted me. (twitter.com) Nice lady.

Demon Knights #2-This is a mindless action movie..and sometimes that is what you want in a comic. I'm still not quite sure about what is going on since I am not familiar with all of the characters, but this is still a lot of fun.

Batwoman #2-This is a very good book. They are doing a very good job with the slow build on the villain and this is hands down one of the most beautifully drawn books I have ever seen.

Question for you John: I thought Batgirl #1 was just okay and felt a little rushed. I don't remember what you thought about it, but if you thought it was a little sloppy do you think that it has improved? I dropped it from my pull list, but I am willing to grab it again since I generally like Simone's writing.

Read Frankenstein. You know you want to. It's just as great as #1. Most of the weirdness was introduced last time, so here you're just rolling with it. This was heavy on ass-kicking action and supporting character background. S.H.A.D.E.NET is such a cool exposition device. I thought I would end up dropping one of Lemire's books, but I can't. Both are great, and I think I like this more.

Superboy was also a winner. From a storytelling perspective, I liked how #2's flashback picked up where #1's flashback left off.

Resurrection Man is still my favorite.

Grifter #2 was a disappointing follow-up. It was kinda boring. There's so much focus on the fact that Cole is a con man, but so far that has no effect at all on the story. At this point, Cole could have any occupation and nothing would change. I might see how they follow-up next month.

It's not New 52, but I was attracted to The Shade #1 and picked it up. I don't think this was meant for new readers as much as the New 52. It seems like this requires prior knowledge of The Shade and Starman. Von Hammer had a nice introduction. Despite me not having any prior knowledge, I'm definitely getting #2 simply because of the way #1 ended.

As one of the biggest starman/JDR fanboys of the 90s, I may have to break my DCU embargo to get the Shade book. But man, the Cully Hamner art was so un- Harris/Snejbjerg.

Frankenstein #2. Awesome. Loved the secret origin of The Creature Commandos.

I like Batgirl a lot. Probably even more than Wonder Woman right now, or Supergirl, and definitely more than Catwoman, because I like how the focus is so singularly Barbara Gordon's POV. I like being in her head, hearing how she thinks and feels and reacts. That's why it reminded me in a positive way of The Hunger Games, which is 100% the POV of Katniss Everdeen. It's funny that Gail Simone never read The Hunger Games. I did think Batgirl #2 was better than #1. We get answers (not about the "miracle" but about The Mirror), and the story really moves.

@Ssnyder1835 Scott Snyder
Great day at @DCComics offices w/ @JeffLemire - all clear for year 2 SWAMPY/A-MAN story - stuff ahead I could not be more excited for!

@JeffLemire Jeff Lemire
@Ssnyder1835 and I had a great meeting about Animal Man and Swampy at the DC offices yesterday

They were talking about a Swamp Thing-Animal Man crossover on Twitter last week, but it's now a go project! Way to sell me on their books through 2012.

I enjoyed GL #2 a lot. I marked a bit for Sinestro fixing EVERYTHING while Hal was just worried about saving the girl. And how can Hal preach to ANYONE about not being welcome back to the Corps when he was freakin' Paryllax?

I have no interest in reading Batgirl and am dropping Nightwing. Really seems like a step back and a waste of Dick and Barbara.
