| #1 Posted on 11.10.11 2117.23 Reposted on: 11.10.18 2117.32 | Guys, this is the Terra Nova AMNESIA EPISODE! A bunch of characters come down with AMNESIA! And a couple get a cold. And the COLD is the SECRET to STOPPING AMNESIA!
Glad I remembered to live Tweet this!
BackoftheHead John Orquiola This week's #TerraNova starts with a retard chasing a CGI ptero-beetle. WHY ARE THERE RETARDS IN TERRA NOVA?! Who chose him to time travel?
BackoftheHead John Orquiola The retard chases the beetle out of #TerraNova and walks right up to a GIANT T-REX. Again: No one ever knows when dinosaurs are around!
BackoftheHead John Orquiola The T-rex eats the retard. If a T-rex eats a human retard does it gain the retardation of a human retard? Ask a scientician. #TerraNova
BackoftheHead John Orquiola Ah, I see. He wasn't a retard. I apologize to retards. FOUR people in #TerraNova have come down with amnesia. What? That's retarded.
BackoftheHead John Orquiola "Unless we find out what this pathogen that causes amnesia is, we're not going home." But you'll call #TerraNova and tell them, right? No?
BackoftheHead John Orquiola Oh shit! The youngest daughter has a cold, the cop dad has a cold, and the mother has AMNESIA! Anyone on #TerraNova have health insurance?
BackoftheHead John Orquiola This #TerraNova plot is stolen from either @StarTrek or All My Circuits. Where's Calculon screaming NOOOO! while a pirate BBQs behind him?
BackoftheHead John Orquiola So now dickweed teen son is plotting to get his girlfriend from the future to #TerraNova. What an excellent use of time travel resources.
BackoftheHead John Orquiola "85 million years B.C.? You people couldn't time travel to AFTER the Ice Age?" Now even the writers are poking fun at #TerraNova's concept.
BackoftheHead John Orquiola Time traveling to a distant past with a hostile environment? Design open air cars with no protection from the elements. #TerraNova
BackoftheHead John Orquiola #TerraNova amnesiac Stephen Lang thinks he's in Somalia. He should be so lucky to be in that lush paradise Pierce described on #Community.
BackoftheHead John Orquiola It would be funnier if amnesiac Stephen Lang thinks he's on Pandora. "I'm gonna kill those blue bastards and their heart tree!" #TerraNova
BackoftheHead John Orquiola All right, I quit. I don't need to see the rest to know everyone is cured of amnesia and dinosaurs are the stealthiest beasts in #TerraNova.
BackoftheHead John Orquiola #TerraNova created the cure for the common cold! And the cure is amnesia! And vice versa! #Science Promote this thread! | | Moss

There's few things better than an amnesia episode of a horrible show, other than good shows of course. | emma

| #3 Posted on 12.10.11 1727.39 Reposted on: 12.10.18 1727.57 | So, John, you bailed before the bits of exposition at the end, regarding the long term plotlines? The connection between the australian black market dealer & the Sixers. And we did have the aside that they haven't forgotten about the Commander's son's petroglyphs. And that the Commander's son was a leverage point in his time "in Somalia" (whether that was real or sim'd). Both of those long-term plotlines are going to be anchored in the hokey teen-romance with the son with the not-so-vanilla chick, who is certainly more complex than she seems.
I'm ambivalent about this show. Some of the plotlines & interactions are pathetically sappy. They seem to be shooting for the broadest possible audience base, which runs the risk of not being able to hold any demographic. Some of the SF doesn't hold up to the most rudimentary tech-geek inspection. But there are also bits of it that either are pretty good, or at least show good potential.
There are bits of the writing & acting that are fun. The sheriff guy does a great "oh now what?" response, whether it's to the squawking birds keeping him from getting some sumpin-sumpin (ep 1x3), or vehicle envy that the quasi-love-nemesis head scientist gets a car & he doesn't. I loved the bit where the main boss (Commander Taylor) was so convinced that he was in the middle of a Somalian mindfuck, that he just snorted at the brontosaurus-ish dinosaur & drove right between it's legs.
Give the amnesia thing a bit of "willing suspension of disbelief" about the scientific plausibility & the literary overuse, & it provided some character background flashes & personality exposition for 3 of the main characters. The moment when the doctor/wife didn't recognise her husband, but was thrilled to see Dr. Malcolm was funny. I thought we got some interesting tidbits from that, including more personality insight than if they'd been straight flashbacks.
Yeah, they were wildly heavy-handed about telegraphing that having a touch of rhinovirus would be the key to the amnesia problem. But I wasn't looking for the cause of the amnesia problem to be somebody out at the research station doing a bit of tinker-toy genetic engineering on the side. If they've got the ability to do that as just a bit of fiddling on the side, they've got all sorts of potential for screwing up the future in huge ways.
By the way, I'm finding the boy-interest of the geeky-smart daughter to be just too goody-goody. I'm not positive that it isn't just smarmy writing, but I'm putting forth an early guess that he's under cover for yet somebody else, & is keeping an eye on her because of her supergenius potential. We think we know that mom got recruited via Malcolm because ... he's still hot for her after all this time? But maybe that daughter was a key to the recruitment selection. Just an early hunch.
"Lieutenant. You shot me." "I did, sir." "Good job." That's worth a giggle.
I still think the dinosaurs are darling & well done. The one sticking his head down the hole was so cute! The whole look of the thing is good.
I just wish the whole thing were at the same level as the parts I really like. I suppose if they could afford a Darlton to run the show, they probably would have to be drawing the dinosaurs in crayon. eh? | John Orquiola

No, I saw it all. I mainly wanted to stop live Tweeting the episode. I left the episode playing and was doing other things while paying haphazard attention to the show. The last scene played for me like this:
Bartender: "I hired the sheriff's son." Sixer Leader: "You hired the sheriff's son? That's interesting." Bartender: "Isn't it?" Me: "How so? Sixer Leader: "Oh, you'll see!" Me: "I suppose I will."
If the show suddenly gets good in the ways I define a show to be good, that would be swell. But my purposes are served if the show stays the way it is. I don't have V to goof on anymore. Terra Nova does in a pinch. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
