I loved how he said "Oh, one more thing sir/ma'am", and then pointed out a flaw in the murder plot, which would usually set off a chain of events that would end in catching the crook. Nowadays, we get graphic CGI of bullets ripping lungs apart, and entire cop shows dedicated to sex crimes or kidnapping or whatever else...but as far as actual storytelling is concerned, we have nothing on TV today in the cop genre that rivals classic Columbo.

Plus, of course, Robin and the Seven Hoods. His role as the opposite to Sinatra's Robbo as Guy is fantastic and he Hams it up with glee.
That's it... RIP, Detective...

In the evening, I would stand in front of my hut and watch in horror as these giant flies would pick children off the ground and carry them away.
Oh, it was an incredible sight. Peasants screaming... chasing these flies down the road, waving brooms. You can imagine the pathetic quality of this. Waving these crudely fashioned brooms at these enormous flies... as they carried their children off to almost certain death."

I was wondering when someone would mention the criminally underrated "The In-laws". That is such a fantastic movie (the original not the re-make of course). Rest in peace Colombo.
