Excited for this game. So, a thread.

It's out June 7th, but if you have the InFamous 1(or if the store ever gets up to give the game), you may want to play thru it first...

    * Infamous Trophy for 25 percent of the Blast Shards: Free energy core in Infamous 2.

    * Infamous Trophy for 50 percent of the Blast Shards: Two free energy cores.

    * Finished Infamous with any karma standing on any difficulty: 1,000 bonus XP for Infamous 2.

    * Specific Trophies for Specific Infamous decisions: Reflect side missions, Dead Drops and dialog variety in Infamous 2.

Suppose I should go back for that last trophy, but I wonder - what do you get if you've got both good AND evil trophies? Maybe it's just as simple as picking which level you start on, but it feels like it should be a bit more than that. (Also, kind of interesting that it's reading your trophy file, and not your game save.)

The larger point is any sequel that rewards someone for playing the first game is nice.

My plan was to get through 1 before 2 came out. I've got the first island done, I'm stuck on a story mission on island 2 (I have to shoot down some planes, but they're moving too damned fast), but I don't think I'm going to make it, even if I skip the dead drops and side missions. (Not going to try for all the shards).

Played a demo at my local GameStop. New power: You can throw cars. *evil grin* Dunno about the tuning fork they give you as a melee weapon, though.

IGN gave it 9.0 (ps3.ign.com). This will be the rare non-wrestling game I buy on release day.

I had no idea about the trophy trick.

Is it worth it to pre-order the game for the unlocked items when the store may still be down on release day?

If you're going to go get it, you might as well pre-order it. You can redeem the DLC code anyway.

The first game had pre-order bonus content too, which wasn't released to purchase until six months later.

I'm looking at pre-order specials for the game. Best Buy, Gamestop, Walmart, Target, and Amazon are my practical options.

All give you these:
Reaper Skin
Sly's Cane
Caveman Club
Samurai Sword
Uncharted3 Multiplayer Beta

Amazon (amazon.com) gives you a gold version of Cole's standard weapon.

Gamestop (gamestop.com)gives you the Lightning Hook and a poster.

Best Buy (bestbuy.com) gives you Kessler (the previous game's villain) as an in-game character, as your avatar I'm guessing.

Walmart (walmart.com) gives you a grenade power.

Target doesn't offer an exclusive.

So, I'm pondering.

This is how I decided:

Amazon (amazon.com) gives you a gold version of Cole's standard weapon.

It's just a different color. Won't notice in three hours in.

Gamestop (gamestop.com)gives you the Lightning Hook and a poster.

Never hanging up the poster, but lightning hook sounds fun.

Best Buy (bestbuy.com) gives you Kessler (the previous game's villain) as an in-game character, as your avatar I'm guessing.

I think it's actually a skin. I never play as another skin unless I'm forced to or specifically rewarded for, and neither is usually the case.

Walmart (walmart.com) gives you a grenade power.

Freezes the guy down on the ground for a while, which sounds like a power that's nice versus the average goon you may run into, but probably not at all useful against 'big' characters.

I went with a hook. If it's good enough for Batman, it's good enough for me.

Loved, loved, loved the first one, and may have to violate my policy of never paying full price for a game (I get them used off Ebay a few weeks after release) for this one.

I imagine how the trophy import will work is that at startup, the game will ask if you want to go with your Evil or Good ending from the first game and then grab all the trophies associated with it. That was how The Suffering 2 worked with the original on the old Xbox (granted trophies weren't involved). I beat the game both ways, so I should be set.

And PLAY THE ORIGINAL FIRST. Trophy Bonuses aside, you will want to not have the ending of the first game spoiled, and from what I've read, it is spoiled all through the beggining of I2.

You should have a power that slows down time for one good shot. Get to a very high spot and nail it once you should see a trail of smoke, Shot it once more and run to it before it explodes and don't let any land in the water.

Completely forgot I had precision, since I've used it like twice since I got it. Giving it a shot.

Cole seems to move about 30% faster than I expect him to making for some control adjustment. He's faster than the camera too, making him vulnerable in melees. I like the displays for bonuses and achievements, and the Gamespot Lightning Hook makes for a fun 2-hit takedown.

Good Karma went - uh, good. Also, I can't believe I beat this game in 12 days. It's not that short, I was playing it a bit too much. That seems to be a good sign!

Quick non spoiler review: there are improvements in game play and graphics, but this should definitely be seen as inFamous Part 2. There's no big leap forward, there are improvements on the formula. It's really more inFamous, which I was fine with.

Characters designs for the roving henchmen were better this time, I thought, and the boss battles feel a bit bigger (though maybe a little easier.) There's (almost) none of the artificial "sets" that existed in the first game - there's no tower of trash, fortress of container trucks or destroyed bridge that you're hopping around. The big battles happen in the context of the normal city, albeit a city that's basically "what if part of New Orleans had stayed flooded?"

inFamous 1's "six axis control" is inFamous2's "User Generated Content", more or less. Like everything else I've played with UGC, I quickly find myself groping for a curator. It's dodgy finding the non-dodgy stuff, but it's also a completely unrelated part of the game.

The story is okay. The sidekicks aren't as ridiculous as they seemed to me in the preview stuff but still rather thinly drawn. There's a reveal late that makes a lot (and makes me wonder why I didn't figure it out sooner), and there's a sudden shift of attitudes late that's really hard to believe.

The first game's ending had a strong "the Princess is in another castle, Mario!" feeling to it. They fixed that in the sequel.

If you liked this first game, you'll enjoy the second. Same is true if you like these vaguely comic book games.

And you can now download the game off PSN and play one hour free, as long as you're a PS+ user (which still should be everyone who went thru the outage.) There's plenty of action in that first hour, enough to get a sense of everything.

The camera movement and blinding smoke are downright deadly in the bigger battles.

Also, is there any way to blast grenades away from you? I thought that was a power in the first game. I can send attackers flying but apparently not lobbed bombs.

The shockwave power (hold down L1 and hit X) knocked away grenades and fired rockets in InFamous 1, I'd assume it does the same in 2.
