While not the best it was very good and tied up a lot of lose ends.
The main points
*Tess is Killed
* Lex gets all 10 seasons wiped from his mind and becomes President of the United States
*Clark learns to fly and gets his Superman outfit
* Darkseid was destroyed in literally seconds and Apokolips was literally pushed away.

I had high hopes for this while it was good it was far from epic

Perfectly acceptable.

Apokolips should have been that easy to push away. With Clark accepting Jor-El's 'gifts', it is supposed to be THAT easy for him... he's fucking Superman! Darkseid however, could have been a better fight, but since it's the Smallville version of him, that was acceptable as well.

Lois was awesome!

I do feel cheated with the CGI though. Why couldn't they have given us a perfectly framed shot of Welling wearing the costume? We never got a clear, non blurred or CGI created shot of him, and that's kinda shitty.

Lex as President was awesome also. That was one of my favorite storylines from the comics. It was also geektastic having Rosenbaum back for the finale.

I wish they could have found a way for Sam Jones III to have popped in somewhere or even a non flashback Lana. It felt 'off' not having either one there.

Yeah it was really...Smallville. WHY WASN'T CLARK WEARING HIS GLASSES DURING THE WEDDING?? There were a few people there (who of course we've never seen before). Air Force One has REALLY bad security: "You're the same gender, ethnicity & hair colour as this picture...yeah sure come aboard!"

What I'm most annoyed about is we never got a really nice close full-body shot of Clark in the suit or learn how he got the Superman name. It was just BOOM it's the future, Chloe had someone draw a comic that reveals Clark Kent is Superman and yeah we call him Superman now.

Sam Jones is currently in a ton of legal trouble, so I doubt he'd have been allowed to leave the country to shoot any kind of cameo. It's a damn shame, too.

I liked how the first half was romantic wedding stuff.
But thanks to the chemistry between Clark and Lois, that was just what we needed (I yelled at the screen for them to NOT call it off) then the moment Chloe swatted away the golden ring, the mood changed.

Lionel sacrificing his daughter for his son was awesome.
Of course he ended up giving his own heart (nice shot of that btw) which was even better. And Lionel/Darkseid got to look pretty bad ass. Yes, he didn't put up much of a fight but that wasn't the point here. It was the point that Clark became Superman.

I loved how they grabbed back to the earlier episodes in flashbacks but also some of the way shots and reactions were done. Lex mentioning that Clark still says his name the same way was awesome. Cunning as ever. And he basically said the thing he has always said since the caves (Damn I wish they had mentioned those) ...I'm the ying to your yang.
Sure, he got his memory wiped but he's a Luthor. He'll be ruthless and end up being Clark's #1 enemy once again.

Nice cameo by Jimmy, and at least they'll marry 7 years later. Also, loved the newscast of Lex becoming president.

I too was rooting for Welling to fully & clearly wear the suit. And I expected Lois to pick up that camera and say "we just saw Superman" but maybe there was some legal-ish reason (to avoid being dragged into the Siegel & Shuster lawsuits?)

BUT I did mark out and yell like a little girl when he was on the roof, the music played and he opened his shirt.
That was the ending that the show needed. Awesome.

A perfect finale for the type of show it was.
Not about superheroes and their fights but superheroes and their character.

PS-damn I'm gonna miss Erica Durance as Lois.
PS2- I realized that one of my favorite actors on this show had to be John Schneider. He'll now forever by Jonathan Kent to me, and not Bo Duke.

I am going to say it had a lot of nice scenes like Apokolopis, the Kents in the barn, the beginning of the wedding, Lionel's sacrifice, Lex/Clark, Lex's memory being wiped, the future and all the Superman stuff. Yet as a whole, I thought it was weak. My wife said it needed to be three hours or at least the wedding stuff should have been last week. I agree. The first hour was good then it became typical Smallville where we replace actions with speeches and montages.

The bad was Ollie taking out three New Gods with three arrows, Clark getting punched the he knows how to fly, the Clark/Darkseid fight was such a let down, a character being an avatar for something bigger, Chloe's comic book outing Clark, Superman moving Apokolips and most of the Johnathan Kent stuff. I love John Schiender, got to meet him, but they glorified the hell out of Johnathan last night. It was pretty much an acknowledgment that they should have never have killed that character in the first place which I agree with. Also, seven years to get married? Why? Also, no other heroes with Apokolips over head?

Ultimately, this season was too much shoved into one season. Story arcs that went no where like Suicide Squad and Tess/Hamiliton. Then you had story arcs that should have stopped earlier like Ollie/Chloe and the VRA. It was like they decided it was the finale season and wanted to tell all these huge stories yet they got so many of them it lead to chaos. In a season where they should have just put the suit on him in the premiere then maybe fast forward to the future stuff. It wasn't a terrible finale, Seinfeld wins that award, but it just was too much talky talky for a show about superheroes. I also think Tom Welling is a chickenshit. I don't know if it was meeting Reeves or an ego thing, but he looks to be terrified when people talk about him wearing the suit. Normally, I would say its not up to an actor, but he is a producer and got paid a lot of money for the last three seasons. He really needed to be Superman back in season 7 or 8 and rename the show Metropolis, because it feels the show stalled for 4 years for really no good reason.

Agreed. they could have at least mentioned the names of the others that were on the lookout and/or maybe fighting else where.

Nah. It was obvious from the start it would END with him wearing the suit. Not at the start of any season or at any moment in between.
I mean, the show was all about him *becoming* Superman. Not about being Superman for a while..

I doubt Welling had that sort of pull.
There were about 10 producers on the show, lots of writers and a bunch of creator credits.
He's just one of the actors that at some point wanted to learn the 'behind the scenes' type of thing.

I've never seen him talk outside of the show so I dunno if he was terrified or not to play the part.

Speaking of Seinfeld and Smallville producers.
For 10 seasons I always chuckled at the Smallville credits..
(crazy) Joe Davola. I'll miss that...

well we did get a mention of manhunter building something in space which could be the JLA watch tower. No mention of any one else. and just how did Green arrow kill the new gods with a freakin arrow? I didn't know they were that easy to get rid of, if so why didn't any of them do that in the first place.

Haven't watched on a regular basis in years. It ended about how I expected. Loved the classic theme at the end.

However, I didn't quite understand what was up with Chloe and the kid. Can someone explain?

Ratings were very super. You know what that means? Season 11! Ten more years! Ten more years!

I haven't seen the finale yet. Been traveling. I can't imagine I won't recap the final episode; can't imagine I won't have anything to say about the end of the ten year odyssey I was on board for from start to finish.

It will encourage them to move forward with the Blue Beetle and Booster Gold spin-off to happen or they will do the League.

First full episode I've seen since Season 3.

What I liked:

-Erica Durance as Lois and her chemistry with Clark.
-Jonathan and Martha Kent.
-The Final scene.

The rest was meh. Lionel has changed from bad to good more times than Lex Luger. Did we really need the freakin' New Gods? That whole storyline just got in the way of what everyone wanted to see (Lex's return, Clark becoming Supes). This was evident with the absolute throwaway method Apokalypse was resolved.

I think the reason I so passionately hate this show is because of how big a blown opportunity it was.

The opening and closing scenes were set seven years into the future. Chloe was reading to her (and presumably Oliver's) son.

So why doesn't Lex just go buy that comic and figure out all of Clark's secrets?

Was I not supposed to think of that?

Good grief.

It was a framing device. The reading of the comic book is a way of saying that none of it really happened. The whole series was just stories in a comic book. The episode started with the woman sitting on a bad with her child and reading the book, then segues into the 'story' which was what we all saw, then it ends when she closes the book.

Yes, that was Chloe doing the reading, but consider that she could have just been a random woman reading her son a comic book.

Except that when she and the kid look up at the planets in his room, and the real episode starts it says "seven years earlier" and at the end, when she leaves his room she picks up the phone, talks to Lois who then talks to Jimmy and then to Clark before he rushes off, changing into his costume.

So it IS set in the same world and apparently really did happen. To me it didn't matter but I can see people being confused/annoyed.

You know, I would be almost happy if they just St. Elsewhered the entire show. I would just chalk it up to Morrison or some hack had a huge run on Secret Origin and just dismiss the entire thing.

Right, had they not switched back to Lois and Clark after the Cloe bit at the end, I would not have been quite as confused. I thought they were saying it was all a comic book story, but then immediately jumped back to said story. Didn't ruin it, it just seemed like they couldn't quite agree on the ending, or it was poor editing.
