Daily Variety reports that finally - finally - Aliens Vs. Predator is moving off the drawing board and closer to the screen with the announcement that Paul (Resident Evil) Anderson will direct the film.

The idea for the film pitting the two alien races against one another comes directly from the initial Dark Horse Aliens Vs. Predator comic book miniseries in 1990 (which sprang from a story in Dark Horse Presents #36), written by Randy Stradley, with art by Phil Norwood. The comic series had several sequels, and eventually lead to a best-selling videogame for Fox Interactive.

Overseeing the project will be original Predator producers Joel Silver, Lawrence Gordon, and John Davis as well as David Giler and Walter Hill, who produced all four Alien films.

During a Q&A session at the London premiere of Resident Evil last week, variety reported that Anderson revealed that he was tweaking a script, but otherwise offered few details.

According to Variety, the story line will focus on a group of human scientists on a distant planet who become snacks after they decide to do a little genetic engineering on some alien and predator specimens.

No, I don't care who you think will or should "win."

Errr..I never read those comics though I knew they existed and I know about that part in Predator 2 where there is an ALien skull in the background but there is one thing about your post that I don't get..
WHY does it take human scientists to activate it all, by screwing with specimens..
I mean...can't they just walk in on an undiscovered planet and be mince meat? Does this thing happen in the comix?
I don't wanna come across as saying 'geez they should do it this way' but I always figured that the Aliens-Predators feud predated human involvment..

But anyways..that sounds like a great movie..spiffy effects!

I was always more impressed with Capcom's iffy-but-workable plot in the arcade for AvP.

Aliens are definitely the better heel in the series. Their shrieks remind me of Steph. ;P

The arcade of AvP was gold. A local arcade used to have that, 6 player X-Men, Spidey vs. Kingpin, Captain American and the Avengers, X-Men (the fighting game), Sf vs X-Men, MK II, Die Hard, KI... etc. etc. I loved those days of FUN arcade games.

Actually according to novels written about both, The preds found the aliens on their home worlds..took them..genetically enhanced them..made them Xenophobic to the degree they kill anything not of their species on site.
The preds then bred them..and shipped them off world to later hunt them and train.

So, is that big skeleton in the chair that they show in Alien a Predator?

No, I don't remember what they said that was, but it wasn't a Predator at all.

Anyone else notice how much the Harogen from Star Trek Voyager resemble the Preds?
