In two separate deals, the Rockets traded guard Aaron Brooks to Phoenix and forward Shane Battier (as well as rookie guard Ish Smith) to Memphis, acquiring center Hasheem Thabeet and guard Goran Dragic.
The Grizzlies made it clear they want to make it to the playoffs this season, and thus traded potential away for a very talented defender in his prime.
The article also says that Memphis attempted to trade guard O.J. Mayo to the Pacers, but were unable to come to terms before the trade deadline.
D'oh, I would've liked to have had him. But not at the expense of losing Danny Granger, Darren Collison or Roy Hibbert, and though the article doesn't say who "the other guy" was, I figure it'd have to be one of those three.

Rotoworld said the Pacers/Grizz deal was either held up by getting a third team involved (New Orleans), the Grizzlies pulling out late, or the deal being consummated but after the deadline, depending on what source you believe. I think I read the Grizzlies would've gotten Josh McRoberts and a first round pick from Indiana.
I was glad the Grizz got Battier back, and Thabeet has been not just a bust, but a MAJOR bust. And the concerns that followed him to the draft (no offense, for one) played out in the NBA. That said, I do hope he can turn things around in Houston. DeMarre Caroll, also sent to Houston, was buried on Memphis' bench. I don't really know anything about the guard they got from Houston.

The Bulls beat writer for the Tribune says Chicago offered 2 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick and Ronny Brewer for Mayo and were turned down. Those were probably really poor 1 picks, but that's still a pretty big offer for a guy who may not be sticking with his team.
