Well, you can look at it two ways. One way, its a nice idea of putting Xavier and Magneto in the year of their real life counterparts Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. As well as getting the yellow costumes from the comics and the original sets from the first two films. The other way, is X-Men 3 may not be the worst X-Men film ever.

Rather than worry about how this prequel messes up the continuity of the X-Men movies we've already seen, what I think FOX, Bryan Singer (producer) and Matthew Vaughn if he returns to direct another, should do is ignore X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand if First Class works and use it as a jumping off point to make new X-Men movies. Let the first three X-Men movies exist in their own "continuity" of sorts and have First Class launch a new one. And the beauty is because Wolverine is "immortal", they can always bring Hugh Jackman back. | dMp

Considering that Wolverine 2 (Or The Wolverine as it'll be called) is pretty much going to ignore the first Wolverine movie I would say these guys expect us to do the same for their new movie.

I'm not sure if it's Marvel's choice. They sold the rights to the Xmen franchise to FOX. I assume that includes all the regular characters so they can use them where they see fit and when they see fit.
Same for the fantastic four. I believe that was the reason Marvel is now making movies under their own banner so they don't have to lose "movie universe control" over their creations.
I'm sure Fox talks to Marvel about things, but I don't think they have to stick to Marvel's (universe) rules.

That was probably the worst one out of what 12 characters. Every ensemble film has one or two people that seem out of place. I am still shocked they did not return Angela Bassett's calls when they announced Storm was going to be in it. Halle was actually pretty good in the second one mainly due to her playing off of Alec Cummings and giving up on the accent. I am not sold on any of these characters even the kid from Wanted's British accent sounds as bad as Halle's African accent. The guy playing Magneto looks more like Collossus. It could be good, but again I would take Jackmen, Stewart, McKellan, Cummings and even Paquin anytime of the day over this group. | Matt Tracker

Um, I know it's a cliche and all but I think you forgot one.
That said, I think the trailer looks promising. It's amazing that after hating two X-Men movies in a row, the concept of this and the bizarre choice of Darren Aronofsky to direct The Wolverine gets me on board for two more. I'm a sucker that way. | kentish

I also think X3 was pretty good, not as good as the amazing X2, but still a decent follow up. I also liked Superman Returns, but think they should have cut out the last 20 minutes (the Superman in a coma crap). The Ang Lee Hulk would have been much better if they dropped the last 20 minutes as well. Yeah, I liked all three. Wolverine sucked, though. | Amos Cochran

I saw Bastards, was he the guy who was a Nazi then turned. Never heard or nor probably watch the other films he is in. He is still too beefy to be Magneto. He may do it 90%, but the trailer sounded like the 10% time. I think we have to see what Bacon and Platt bring to the table, because sometimes they are good and other times not so good see Platt's Showtime show and Bacon's last few film. Singer is a better directer then Vaughn, Usual Suspects trumps anything Vaughn did and I put X-Men 2 in my top 3 comic book movies of all time next to Superman and Spiderman 2. | Amos Cochran

You're hearing something that's not there.
And I'd hold Bacon and Platt's body of work up against such luminaries as James Marsden, Tyler Mane, Rebecca Romijn and Ray Park. You know what? I'm just excited for First Class now. It's a weird feeling, to be excited for an X-Men movie. It's been 8 years since I was actually excited to see an X-Men movie and not dreading what Ratner would do with X-Men: The Last Stand (as bad as I feared) or how lousy X-Men Origins: Wolverine would be (worse than I imagined).

As I understand it, this film kinda sorta takes place within Bryan Singer's continuity, so I suppose they just made Alex the older brother. I realize this doesn't quite explain away Mystique, but it's the best I can come up with. | The Guinness.

I think the Mystique thing kinda fits in the same way Wolverine could. Mystique is a lot older than what she looks. After-all she is a shape-shifter. She could actually look like a 1993 Jessica Tandy in realfake life. However she chooses to look young. Then again what does a really old scaly blue skinned lady really look like anyways? Probably didn't really need a cast change for her character either... Unless that damn Jerry O'Connell fattened her up again!
Now of course tying her in with the events that are taking place in this film probably doesn't make sense. I'm not up on the continuity that far back so I don't really know.
I do know that I am interested in this one though. Was that a shot of Beast flying in the airplane? |
