Maybe I've been under a rock the last couple of months, but my yearly Gold Membership is about due and I just got a message from X-Box saying that my $59.99 will be processed automatically ... wait $10 more?
I was actually expecting the rates to drop in a year or two, because that's just the way I seem to think but I never expected it to go up and not that much that soon.
I suppose it wouldn't be all that bad if I used all of the great new features on there like ESPN3, or the FM station, or the Facebook aps ... but I have a computer and the Netflix is neat but I don't really use that feature either.
Seems like they should have just added another tier to the package, Gold stays online gaming ... and whatever above that for the whole thing.
Considering what I spent on the system, the games, the memberships year after year and still I or even hardercore gamers don't get the beloved 'Grandfather Clause' seems weak.
Like Homer said about tv 'It used to be free... and then you had to pay for it.'

Yeah, the price increase is pretty lame. However, I just logged into my xbox live ID. The dashboard shows a sale for xbox gold @ 44.99 for 12 months. I'd check that out before the automatic renewal takes place.
Also, if you have other family members in the household, you might benefit from their family plan. Four 12 month accounts for $99.00 bucks. I'm not sure how that works if you want to set up accounts with four friends in different households and such.
I'll give Microsoft credit some credit for creating some family options at a reduce cost. However, single dude's are getting screwed with the increase.

When I looked I saw that they had a deal for $95 for two years, but I never know what I'm doing that far in advance.
Edit: I was going to cancel my auto renewal and just buy the cards. Amazon has them for 44.95, but when I called up the guy said I had been with XBox long enough that I built up some kind of tenure and he gave me the year for $40. So, that works.
