What's better than a good movie?

A bad one!

A bad movie can make me laugh harder than some "good" comedies.

Want an example? Tommy Wiseau's "The Room". Words cannot do this movie justice but if you search YouTube you'll find plenty of clips. Wiseau wrote, directed, and "stars" in the movie and oh my god, he is possibly the worst actor I've ever seen in any movie. If you're having a bad day, watch this movie and I gurantee it will improve your spirits.

Hard Ticket to Hawaii is pretty epic - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOBbmdJTLdE

1990: The Bronx Warriors (I haven't seen the full movie, but this clip bodes well. It looks like Hayden Christensen stole his whole acting style from this guy.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbKyvxTxWvA

I have a soft spot for 'The Wraith'. Lets get some linkage - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092240/

Bunch of people hate it, but I love it.
Same deal with 'My Science Project' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089652/

Siesta had full frontal Ellen Barkin nudity in the first few minutes but went downhill fast from there. Was the first movie I had watched where my response to the final credits were "What the fuck was that about?" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093969/

Some people thought it was great - I hated it. (nudity notwithstanding).

Man, you weren't kidding. I had never heard of the movie before I saw this thread, and have been studying all day for final exams and needed a break, so I did a YouTube search, watched the trailer, and read several reviews and an interview with Tommy Wiseau - I need to see this. The WikiPedia entry on the movie is great, too.

"IFC.com described Wiseau's speaking voice in the film as 'Borat trying to do an impression of Christopher Walken playing a mental patient.' "

Awesome.

I'm in the minority. I was SO BORED watching it. I made it about 30 mins in before I changed the channel (it was on Adult Swim of all places). Boring, unfunny, and I just don't see what is so cultish "it's so bad it's good." It's so bad that it's AWEFUL.

It's the bad acting and writing comboned with Tommy's awful English that makes it work so well as a comedy for me.

Two additions- Plan 9 From Outer Space (a classic!), and Manos- The Hands Of Fate.

Watching Manos without Joel and the 'Bots from MST3k is quite the experience...

You ain't kidding about Manos. I got about five minutes into the thing before I pulled the DVD out of the player and threw it at the wall. I didn't try watching it again for a year after that, and I barely made it through with my sanity intact.

And my addition to the thread: Troll 2. Holy crap. You've gotta see it to believe it.

Just about every Peter Jackson pre-LOTR fits this category. Bad Taste and Dead Alive for sure meet this bill.

I'll throw in two of my other favorites here too.

"Clueless". For me it's timeless, but really is there anything good about this movie?

....and, "Bring it On" I think the Internet pretty much hates Kirsten Dunst. However if you watch this movie as a satire, you might just feel it. Spirit Fingers.

Oh...and every Saw movie

The Human Centipede. I was completely grossed out but had to watch. I heard about it on the Steve Dahl Podcast and was roped in.

Hands down the best bad movie I've seen is Showdown in Little Tokyo. Any movie where someone wrote this line, actors had to say it, cameramen had to film it and editors had to edit it is something of a marvel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX3R7fVVU-g
YouTube is littered with the clips of the film, but to really experience it, you NEED to see it.

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE. On an objective scale it's awful, but it's everything a Punisher film should be.

I actually watched this for the first time this past weekend on cable (Encore, I think). Awesome. I feel so bad for Brandon Lee, because he was really a talented actor but this movie makes him deliver the crappiest lines I've seen in an action movie. The main spotlight, however, is on Dolph Lundgren and his awesome costume at the film's climax. The dude gets a bullet smack in the chest and goes on to have a swordfight with hardly any blood on him and suffering no ill effects at all.

Well, yeah. The first five minutes (and a good chunk afterward) is just a constant driving scene. I love how the MST3K guys kill that time saying "Manos, The Hands of Fate" with as many different inflections and emphases as they can come up with.

Speaking of bad Dolph Lundgren films (I know - is there any other kind?), I just read that he has signed on to a Uwe Boll project called In The Name Of The King 2 where he plays "a cop... [that] gets attacked by ninjas in his house and fell with the ninjas into a vortex back in time." Lundgren said "It’s a role I just wanted to play. It’s fun to exercise my acting chops once in a while. I’ve got to get ready for ‘Expendables 2′.”

Alrighty then.

The Octagon with Chuck Norris. From the awful sound effects that are supposed to convey Chuck's thoughts (but end up being garbled because he's using long sentences with a short delay effect) to the ropey plot (Two brothers compete in a race, the loser snatches a nunchuk or something from the winner and the father tells the winner that the loser is now his mortal enemy and should never make amends with him. Over a stick.)

By all means, watch it. Just don't blame me if you end up with a smashed up DVD player.
