| #1 Posted on 22.11.10 2205.31 Reposted on: 22.11.17 2206.28 | TONIGHT: The fall-out from Survivor Series, including the fact that John Cena was fired from WWE after Randy Orton retained the title. Also, Nexus seems as strong as ever, and where do Wade Barrett and Orton go from here? We’ll find out tonight…maybe. -WWE Open.
-Live from Orlando, Florida, Michael Cole opened the show with a bit of a somber tone, and no big music or fireworks. Instead, they just panned the upper deck. They showed a still of John Cena handing the title to Randy Orton last night as Jerry Lawler narrated what happened.
-Wade Barrett walked into the arena. Soon, the rest of Nexus came out to stand by his side. Into the ring they went, and a scowling Barrett got the microphone. He said that last night, John Cena looked him in the eye….then he asked for some decorum as he spoke. Awesome. The fans booed even more. Then they chanted “you suck” and “Cena.” As he tried to speak again, the fans amped up the boos. “Hard luck, I fired him!” was his response to the Cena chants. He said Cena looked him in the eye and said he knew exactly what he was doing. That meant that Cena was willing to sacrifice his career for what he thought was right. And number two, it meant that Barrett went into last night’s match without a fighting chance, since Cena already decided Barrett wouldn’t become champion and was biased from the beginning. Barrett said an official has never been allowed to place his hands on a competitor, but that’s what Cena did last night. He said it was, among other things, unprofessional. So he was out, in the name of justice, to ask for a rematch. The Raw GM chimed in.
The GM admitted there was some validity to Barrett’s claims, and said Orton would likely like to claim his superiority. Therefore, the championship will be defended when Orton vs. Barrett takes place…tonight. Barrett thanked the GM for the gracious decision. But in anticipation, Barrett said he decided to allow Cena to appear in the arena tonight. That didn’t take long. He said he enjoyed firing Cena, but as a fellow competitor (and gentleman!) he said he owed it to Cena to say his final words to the WWE Universe. Barrett said he’d win the title later on tonight.
-Lawler and Cole speculated as to whether Cena would accept Barrett’s invitation to appear tonight. Wouldn’t he have gone home after last night? How would he make it back to the arena in time? Then, the announcers plugged Barrett vs. Orton tonight. Cole said he just received word that Cena would indeed be on the show.
[Commercial Break]
-The announcers plugged the three-hour Raw, featuring the King of the Ring tournament, next Monday night. Coles said he had another announcement to make. He got a live mic and introduced the newest member of the Raw broadcast team…C.M. Punk. Punk then came out in jeans and a hoodie. Punk said he’d be on for the foreseeable future.
(1) Sheamus vs. R-Truth – King of the Ring Qualifying Match They must’ve dropped Truth’s new theme song, because he came out to “What’s Up.” Probably a good idea. Sheamus took Truth down with a headlock take-over. He kept Truth grounded with the headlock. Truth caught Sheamus off the ropes with a heel kick, leading to Sheamus angrily retreating to ringside before the break.
[Commercial Break]
Sheamus worked an arm-bar as they returned from break. A couple of near-falls were registered after working on the arm. Truth made a comeback and clotheslined the big man down. He got a near-fall himself. Axe kick to the chest of Sheamus in the corner. To the top rope he went, and landed a missile dropkick. Cover got two. Truth tried to roll up Sheamus, but Sheamus sat down and got a two count. Brogue Kick, and a beauty, out of nowhere. Sheamus struggled to get back to his feet and appeared to want to go for the Irish Cross. He hit it for the three.
Winner: Sheamus, at 11:05. Solid, solid match. Slow in parts, but it built well.
-The announcers spoke on camera about the John Cena DVD coming out this past Tuesday. They showed an exclusive clip from the DVD of this past year’s Wrestlemania. They played some sad music to advertise Cena saying his last words tonight.
[Commercial Break]
-LayCool was walking outside the arena, upset about their title loss last night. They stepped into the arena and were stopped by security, saying the entrance was for Raw superstars only. He said they weren’t on the list. McCool said she knows they’re not on Raw now because they lost the titles last night, but they ARE LayCool. Layla trash-talked the guy after he again wouldn’t let them in. Natalya appeared beside the security guy and he asked her if she’s ever seen them. Natalya denied knowing them. So their security guys don’t even recognize top stars in the company? Security ushered them out the doors.
-Santino Marella and Vlad Kozlov were backstage sitting at a table. He said he was so upset about losing last night...he could taste the titles. Kozlov said they’d get another shot, but Marella said tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. He asked if there was anything in the universe to make him feel better. Off-screen, a guitar was being played, and it turned out to be Tamina playing and singing a song for Santino. He went in for a kiss, and Tamina gave it to him. She told him to call her.
-Elsewhere, Randy Orton was lacing up his boots when Josh Mathews walked in. He asked Orton if he could beat Barrett again tonight. Orton said Cena called the match down the middle last night, and for that, it cost him his career. Orton said they were never the best of friends, but he respects the hell out of him. Orton guaranteed (there’s that word again…) that Barrett wouldn’t leave the arena with the WWE Championship.
-Coming up, Ezekiel Jackson vs. The Miz in a KotR qualifying match. It’s next.
[Commercial Break]
(2) Ezekiel Jackson vs. The Miz – King of the Ring Qualifying Match Before Miz came out, Alex Riley did so. He was dressed to compete, and said Miz suffered an anxiety attack. So, he said he’d take his place and qualify for him.
(2) Ezekiel Jackson vs. Alex Riley- King of the Ring Qualifying Match Rear waist-lock by Riley, who then hammered away with rights. Whip into the buckle, followed by a big splash by Riley. DDT-like move for two. Jackson powered out of a rest-hold and flattened Riley. Big clothesline in the corner, then a uranage. Miz is no going to be happy!
Winner: Jackson, at 1:54. Miz didn’t need KotR anyway, not that Jackson is a much better choice. Riley got some nice offense in to look credible, at least.
-Coming up: Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett for the WWE Title, which Cole tried to portray as a rarity.
-Cena was shown backstage talking to R-Truth and Eve. Santino, Gail Kim and Yoshi Tatsu walked up to him and shook his hand as well. Truly, a man of the people.
[Commercial Break]
-Cole plugged WWE.com for Survivor Series photos. The announcers wondered why Barrett would allow Cena to come back to say goodbye.
-Justin Roberts introduced John Cena, theoretically, for the last time. Cena said he wants to leave just like this. Crowd chanted his name as he soaked it in. He reminded fans that Orton is still the champ, so he is fired. He said previous to this job, he was living in his car and cleaning toilets, so he never thought any of this would happen. Cena said the fans have no idea how much he respects the company and those who allowed him to be there today. He mentioned Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. He said his goal was always to look those guys in the eye and for them to tell him, “kid, you’re alright.” Cena talked about everything he’s been able to do in his WWE career, and called it the greatest nine years of his life. He said he wanted to give everything he had to each and every fan. Cena talked about his brother having a baby girl in him missing it. He was getting choked up here and said his mom’s birthday is in a few days, so he’s going to West Newbury to visit family. He said he’s going to hug his mom and tell her he loves her and all the money in the world can’t buy her that. Cena said the fans are always honest, and if he’s walking out one last time, he wants to hear half the arena saying “Let’s go Cena,” and the other half saying…then, he changed it and said every woman and child chanting “Let’s go Cena,” and every male over 18 chanting “Cena sucks.” This was pretty funny seeing how effective it was.
This went on for a while as Cena took it all in. He called it “beautiful” and thanked them. He said it’s the fans’ passion that keeps them coming back. He wanted to address Wade Barrett last and said he sees talent in Barrett. He asked Barrett to take advice from an ex-employee who may have peed in his coffee once or twice. He told him to stop taking short cuts and stop taking the easy way out. Cena said success in this business is built on consistency. He said that karma was a bitch (and that was bleeped). He said Billy Kidman is probably ready to strangle himself because he’s gone way over his time here (Kidman times the shows out now, having replaced Gerry Brisco in that role). That was odd to hear, regardless. He finally thanked all of the fans and for the fans to let him live his dream. He finished by saying, “I love you to death…let’s go home.” Crowd applauded and chanted for him as he headed up the ramp. Really, really good exit promo. He stopped on the stage and kissed his dog tag, saluted, then headed to the back. The camera caught a few fans becoming emotional over the moment. Cena got backstage and the entire roster was lined up, giving him applause as he left. One guy even looked like Duane Gill! Orton shook Cena’s hand and hugged him. Cena then proceeded to walk out of the arena. As he did, Wade Barrett stepped into the picture. He did the “you can’t see me” as Cena walked away, not seeing him. Then he smirked, and walked off.
[Commercial Break]
(3) Ted DiBiase vs. Daniel Bryan- King of the Ring Qualifying Match No entrance for DiBiase (probably because that damn Cena went long!). Brie Bella ran down to the ring and escorted Bryan into the ring. Punk called Brie a four at best. Maryse was out with DiBiase as well. DiBiase was the aggressor to start. He suplexed Bryan stomach-first over the top rope. DiBiase missed a splash as Punk predicted that DiBiase would be king. Bryan walked right into a sit-down spinebuster. After an unsuccessful pinfall attempt, Bryan hooked in the LeBell lock for the submission win.
Winner: Bryan, at 1:54. Boy is DiBiase in a bad way. I thought this feud against Bryan would be good for him…maybe with the Bellas, they’ll do some mixed tag matches.
-Nikki Bella ran out after the match and they both tried to get with Bryan, but he ended up shoving them together. Not a lot was made about this post-match.
-Tonight, WWE Title on the line, Barrett vs. Orton.
[Commercial Break]
(4) Natalya vs. Alicia Fox Fox held onto the rope as Natalya went for a roll-up, but Nattie kipped up and took Fox down. A hairpull then took Nattie down. She stepped on Nattie’s hair and pulled her arms up. Fox pulled one of Natalya’s extensions out as Punk gave a Joey Styles-like “Oh my God!” Hard slap to the face of Fox and a standing suplex while she did squats. Only a one-count on the pin. Fox made it to the ropes on a Sharpshooter attempt but Nattie picked her up in a bearhug. Fox rolled out the back and went for a pin. It didn’t work and Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter for the win.
Winner: Natalya, at 2:19. Good win for Natalya, and a decent match.
-Barrett vs. Orton is still to come, for the WWE Title.
-John Morrison and Melina were talking backstage about Morrison’s upcoming qualifying match. They seemed a bit flirty and he walked off, heading to the ring.
[Commercial Break]
(5) John Morison vs. Tyson Kidd– King of the Ring Qualifying Match Kidd has new music to go along with his new heel persona. Punk termed D.H. Smith a “weirdo.” Kidd with a back kick to the chest of Morrison. Punk graded Melina as a two. Another kick to the chest, this time by Kidd. Hook of the leg, cover got two. Morrison tried to bring Kidd back in the ring, but Kidd kicked him in the head. Swinging neckbreaker while hooking the leg, and that got Kidd a three-count. Morrison caught Kidd running in with an elbow. Flash Kick (called the Flying Chuck by Punk), followed by Starship Pain.
Winner: Morrison, at 3:18. I guess it’ll be four from Raw and four from Smackdown in the tourney. The athleticism by Morrison on the Flash Kick was neat.
-In a split screen, Orton and Barrett were shown walking. Their match is next.
[Commercial Break]
-They showed the four Raw superstars who have qualified for the King of the Ring tournament. This Friday, Kofi Kingston, Big Show, Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, MVP and Jack Swagger will battle it out to find out the four who will be in the tournament next week.
-As Orton walked to the ring for his title match, Nexus ambushed him in the aisle, while Barrett barked orders. Referees and officials came down to break it up (including refs who haven’t been on TV before). Orton was grabbing his knee as Nexus was forced to back off. Orton got to his feet, but was visibly pissed. Husky Harris ran in and kicked Orton in the knee again. Loud “Nexus sucks” chant. Orton hadn’t gotten to his feet by the time they took another break.
[Commercial Break]
-The announcers talked about the attack Nexus perpetrated on Randy Orton prior to the break. Barrett made a full entrance as Cole read an e-mail from his Blackberry from the GM, saying Nexus is banned from ringside for this match. Barrett and referee Mike Chioda had a conversation in the ring about whether Orton would be able to come out and fight, and obviously, Barrett wanted the forfeit win. Orton’s music played and he finally limped to the ring. Full ring intros were done prior to the match.
(6) Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton- WWE Championship Match Orton with rights, but Barrett kicked the knee. More rights from Orton, another kick by Barrett. Barrett grabbed the injured leg and twisted it around the middle rope. Crowd chanted “Randy.” The knee continued to be targeted and Barrett got a one-count on his first cover attempt. Orton countered a potential submission move by kicking Barrett off of him and into the ring post. Backbreaker by Orton, but both men were down. He picked Orton up for wasteland and delivered. As the ref counted two, John Cena came out of the crowd and pulled the ref out of the ring. He gave the AA to Barrett and beat him up more until Nexus came in to run him off. They chased him straight out of the building. The ref got up in record time and was back in the ring. Barrett was on his feet first, but Orton hit a surprise RKO for the win.
Winner: Orton, at 3:51. Really hot crowd for this one, including for Cena’s interference and the finish.
-As Orton’s music hit, The Miz’s then came on- ran out with his briefcase. He wanted to cash it in.
(7) The Miz vs. Randy Orton- WWE Championship Match Miz went after the knee, but Orton got himself in the corner. Miz tried it again and Orton greeted him with forearms to the back. Miz went to work on the knee, this time, in the middle of the ring. Miz wrapped Orton’s knee around the ringpost as Cole reset the show at the top of the hour. Orton came back with a clothesline and blocked the Skull Crushing Finale. Big uppercut by Orton. DDT blocked and Miz went after the knee. Scoop slam by Orton. Orton set up for the RKO, but remember, A.Ri is at ringside. RKO turned into the Skull Crushing Finale, and folks, we’ve got a new WWE Champion.
Winner: The Miz, at 2:45.
Miz posed with the title after the match. Cole said “the era of awesomeness has begun on Monday Night Raw.” They replayed Nexus’ attack on Orton, and the injury he sustained to his knee. Miz posed with the title on the stage as fans in the crowd were shown with various looks of disappointment on their face. Orton convalesced outside the ring and he was holding his anger in. | #3 Posted on 22.11.10 2210.52 Reposted on: 22.11.17 2212.00 | Caught the main event(s). With a good chunk of time left and Orton winning, the writing was on the wall. At that point all what was left was AWWWWWWWEESSSSSSSSSSSSOME;
A) The Miz to come out. B) If they were seriously going to pull the trigger. With around five to ten minutes left on the show, it left enough time to think "oh man, Miz might lose this".
BUT THEY DID PULL THE TRIGGER. And with PUNK ANNOUNCING, COMPLETE WITH "I've been here before". They did a good job with transitioning the title for sure.
There are so many things they can do with this now, I look forward to seeing the followup. I especially look forward to Miz's championship promo.
EDIT: Credit where credit is due, Cole was not overbearing when the Miz won, and during Orton vs Miz there was no over the top antics.

I second. That was fantastic.
This is the first time I've watched in a few weeks, and I couldn't watch the whole thing. The announcing is so terrible. I was intrigued when they introduced Punk, but the announcers are guilty of the thing I hated most about WCW: The announcers talking about everything but what's going on in the ring. During the Dibiase/Bryan match, they were talking about some stupid crap, I don't remember what, and I tuned out till the end when I thankfully flipped back in time to see Miz come out. If the announcers can't act interested in it, why should I give a shit? | I Breastfeed John Madden

Looks like they used the PPV to set up the Raw show.
I guess we are going to get a Cena-Barrett unsanctioned, unauthorized match to get around Cena being fired angle although I really hate it when they do emotional send-offs only to come right back almost afterwards. Makes the real retirement sendoffs mean nothing.
Congrats to the Miz, he really worked his tail off the last couple of years and got rewarded. Job well done Miz.
And just of note, while I think Jericho was great on Raw, the numbers don't lie, and ratings have gone up since Jericho left the show.
And the light-weights are really getting a lot more attention on Raw lately, much to the delight of the internet and indy crowd.

Raw is back up to 3.2 now, I'll bet this one draws a 3.4 with the NFL game being a dud.

Glad you posted the pic of the Child of Satan laying a curse on Miz. Better actress than Rey Rey's little girl. Almost
Natalya has a better Sharpshooter than the Rock. Check for yourself
Cena's speech was begging for a heel turn when he started mentioning the time away from family. But it's not the time, I guess - and not that anyone wants it anyway
Glad Punk is around. Punk and Lawler seem to have some kind of weird chemistry and it shut Cole the hell up for the night. I checked for Striker being future endeavored, but I can't have all the luck
Morrison looked good (loved the Melina bit). Tyson Kidd looked good - he could be Teddy Hart without all the Teddy Hart bullshit
Sheamus is there - why he was on a losing streak is anyone's guess
Why was Jackson even knocked of his feet by that chump? I understand a hope spot, but not for a guy that you want to be Main Event. I thought the same thing with Sheamus. And Big Show 10 years ago. And Mark Henry every 2 years. All these guys can work
But they bring in assholes that can't sell. That's different from a no-sell
MIZ RULES! And the belt turned the right way says "M". That could have stood for "Mattitude" at one time. If anyone would like to tweet Matt to remind him of that, by all means, please do. Grazi. I already had my Twitter coach say "Like Hell", so go for it

I haven't paid attention to this for years, but I believe it's still the case that USA pays WWE the same amount per episode, no matter what the ratings are. I settled on "Will @mikethemiz invert the spinny "W" on the title? It PROBABLY wouldn't make @MATTHARDYBRAND's head explode," which you would know if you'd ever visited @CRZ.
