Nothing more than a Jay Glazer tweet to confirm it at the moment, but it's not surprising after recent events.

As a fan of another NFC North team, I will miss him.

Leslie Frasier probably finally gets to be head coach.

Edit: Frasier is head coach, press conference at 3pm.

I really thought of him as Wayne Fontes' big brother. He'll be missed by three quarters of the fans in the division :-)

This happened about 3 weeks too late. Right after he should have benched Favre.

Colin Howherd's most repeated question to his bank of local sportsguys: Does the new coach bench Favre regardless of the streak?

Best local sportsguy answer: We don't know if Frazier likes Jackson.

I wouldn't be surprised if Favre uses this as his out & decides to retire immediately ... who could really blame him I guess? ...

You reap what you sow.

I hope the endless catering to Favre was worth it, because this franchise is wrecked for a long time to come. Chilly's still on the hook for another 3 years, a third-round pick is wasted on a 2-week Moss rental, and Tavaris Jackson loses two years of development time. At least this team won't become anymore of a joke. And can they really afford to? Don't they need a stadium deal soon?

First Wade Phillips, now Chilly. Is it fair to say that the Packers are coach killers, as well as arguably the best team in the NFC?

That's the problem with going for all or nothing, nothing really can be messy. Going all in almost worked for them. The worst thing the Vikings did was give Childress a long extension, he was never the right guy for this kind of team.

My friend called Brett leaving on or around Thanksgiving and at this point he maybe right. I think Brett has too much pride to quit, yet I can see him saying he is injured leading to the end of his days in Minnesota. Childress could saved his job by drafting one of the upcoming QBs are playing well and told the team Favre is gone. Instead, he let the players and his own stubbornness lead them to a guy who seem to have zero desire to play.

It was totally worth it since Tavaris Jackson IS TERRIBLE. Has everyone forgotten this fact? Wasn't everyone saying that the Vikings desperately needed a quarterback like Favre if they were going to contend, and lo and behold, Favre took them to the cusp of the NFC title last year.

If Jackson had still been the starting QB, the Vikings would've had another 9-7ish season in 2009, just good enough to keep Chilly around. This year he would've been fired anyway and then Tavaris would've been out anyway.

The way I remember, it was the Vikings last year who were the odds on favorite to make the Super Bowl WITH Jackson as QB. Which beget the Favre drama and the coup-de-gra with an interception that sealed their fate. That was my perfect moment

Haven't cared about Favre since then; even though he's all over the place re: ESPN and is also making gossip headlines by showing his pecker to that chick. Creepy Old Loser. And that how it ends for me

How anyone can put a QB in the Hall of Fame for throwing the ball to the other team MORE THAT ANYONE EVER is just something that happens. All he needs to do now is get unceremoniously dumped and then claim an addiction to drugs. Evidence is found that proves you don't play all them games in a row on a natural. Favre will fall on his sword. Martyr. They'll change Canton to Favreville and the only one shamed is OJ

I thought it was they would be odds on favorites if they didn't have Jackson or Sage Rosenfels (who most thought would have started over Jackson) as the starting QB. Memory is foggy, but Pats/Colts/Steelers and mayber Chargers had shorter odds than any NFC team, and at least Dallas and maybe even the Giants and Cardinals had shorter odds than the Vikings pre-Favre trade. But, to be fair, that is a year and a half ago and after taking 2 securities exams in 96 hours, my mind isn't what it once was.

At least you didn't say that in the RIP George Blanda thread; that would have just been rude.

EDIT: Shit, there wasn't an RIP Blanda thread?
