If, Hawaii joins Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State in the Mountain West, it looks like the WAC will be the Sun Belt West in terms of competitive football schools.

By 2013, the WAC might look like this:
Denver (non-football)
Idaho
Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State
San Jose State
Texas-San Antonio
Texas State
Utah State

This poses another problem for the WAC. The NCAA says that a FBS conference needs EIGHT football playing members. Denver doesn't play football so the WAC would have to either get another school to move up, or pluck one from the Sun Belt as they have nine. Geographically speaking, North Texas would make the most sense.

Sense never mattered in college football as there is a link in that ESPN article that says that all this makes TCU moving to the Big East closer to happening.

For those playing at home, here is how the MWC looks like in 2012:
Air Force
Boise State
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawaii
Nevada

New Mexico
San Diego State
TCU
UNLV
Wyoming

This leaves them one short of 12, so who would they take for a 12th assuming they wanted a title game? Plucking Idaho seems like a likely choice, in terms of geography.

Idaho would add less than nothing. Probably would look at Houston or SMU from Conference USA, with both possible should TCU jump. New MWC would have a strong case to get an auto BCS bid should TCU not jump.

Several TCU fans claiming to have multiple "inside sources" are saying TCU to the Big East for all sports is a done deal:

Obviously it's just some anonymous people on a message board, so who know, but it wouldn't be the first time I heard big news like this on a team's fan message board before I heard it from any media outlets.

Well, that answers that question. They want that 12th team and title game.
