Needed more Bublé.

Screen tests! Are these the first screen tests since Star Wars? Great, Scott.

Can we please now put an end to Garth & Kat? Did they even last 5 seconds before they started laughing at each other? So bad.

That's called 'breaking', and Tracy Jordan thinks it's hilarious!

Shy Ronnie was great because of that first time I'd seen Shy Ronnie before and this Shy Ronnie was almost exactly like the first Shy Ronnie!

(Substitute every recurring bit for "Shy Ronnie")

I have never found Garth & Kat amusing, but there are lots of folks on Twitter who actually took time out from viewing SNL to tweet about how Garth & Kat get them EVERY TIME. I call those people "fools." And what is the point of it, anyway? Are they improvising? Are they pretending to improvise something they wrote days ago? Who the fuck CARES?

On the plus side, even SNL seems to know there's no point in trying to do any more "Mad Men" bits.

It seems weird to have a Saturday before the election have so little political stuff. I'd hate to think they ceded the ground to Stewart & Colbert yesterday. (Not that they were all that funny, either, from what I've read. I guess "you had to be there.")

I think Shy Ronnie and Rihanna have the best defined and most endearing relationship on the show since Kaitlyn and Rick Rick Rick.

Hamm is obv great (that was some impression of the speed and determination of the incomparable Robin Williams) but I dunno why people lose their shit over his episodes. The content is just as good, bad, and mediocre across the board as most other hosts'. I didn't think anything from this week was as good as Emma Stone singing "hey everybody did you hear the news, I broke my arm." Maybe Hamm asking "are you insane in the membrane? insane in the BRAIN?"

Vincent Price's Halloween seemed to skirt by on old versions of the sketch, but was still pretty damn funny. Hamm as JFK was awesome.

You're doing a great job, Scott.

The smarkiest thing I'll hopefully say today:

Kristen Wiig is the Triple H of the SNL Divas Division, firmly holding Abby Elliott, Nasim Pedrad, and Vanessa Bayer down.

I can't believe someone impersonated Joan Cusack. And nailed it.

I also can't believe Hader thought Alan Alda talks like Johnny Carson.

I'm losing my patience with Abby Elliott. Sure, she's cute and can do a few killer impressions, but she really needs a breakout character or two. I believe it's always been a rule at SNL that if you want to be showcased, write it yourself and submit it. A thousand times if you have to. SNL in recent years (well, really forever, but more noticeably now) really relies on the crutch of recurring sketches. If you don't have that go-to sketch, you're not going to get airtime.

Nasim is starting to break through, but everything she does is a variant on "awkward pre-teen."

Vanessa Bayer is doing something right. She got the Miley Cyrus talk show under her belt right away. I can see her getting a ton of mileage out of that. (And I think that's...pretty cool.)

Wiig's characters are hit-and-miss, but the ones that hit REALLY hit, so she gets a lot of work.

I can't believe they keep showing up unprepared! So unprofessional.

Not even the most endearing relationship between a pop star and a recurring character played by Andy Samberg — that's Ludacris and the Blizzard Man, on the real.

With each new impression, Jay Pharoah is winning me over.
That was a terrific Eddie Murphy.
That Back to the Future audition was the only thing I liked.

There's really been nothing this season that's really wowed me. Pretty weak so far, but it's still early.

Everything from Update to the end of the show on the Emma Stone episode was really solid. Everything before Update on that episode was terrible (Yeah, even the broken arm short), so I understand if people didn't stick around and see the good stuff (Paris sketch, Sex Seminar, etc.).

The weakest of the three Hamm-hosted episodes, but given how terrific the other two were, it's not an insult. Hamm himself was great again -- this guy is the best natural SNL host in years, and it's clear he's on a fast track to the Five-Timers club.

For all of Wiig's irritating recurring characters, why does the show not bring back the ones I actually like, the A-Holes?

If they can't write a sketch, or aren't friends with somebody who can write it for you, you aren't getting on the show (read Jay Mohr's book).

Best part of this weeks show? Seeing Nuno Bettencourt (formerly of the band Extreme) playing a week ass guitar part behind Rhianna and trying to look 'cool'.
