So will Cliff Lee pitch game two then? If he goes game one, that would be three days rest. And then he can pitch later in the series*.

The Yanks will trot out Sabathia for Game 7 too, but he'll be on short rest, so I'd have to favor Lee in that scenario. Of course, I don't think this series makes it that far.
It's almost completely unfair that the Yanks are loaded from top to bottom in terms of a pitching staff. Yankees win in 5. As a prize, they claim Cliff Lee in free agency, because the balance of power in baseball just isn't lopsided enough. | Mr Shh

If he starts game 2, *that* would be three days rest. He would only start games 3 and 7. C.J. and Colby will have to set the pace. I can definitely see this going 7. Rangers offense is smokin. But I say Yankees get to Lee in game 7 and take it. | redsoxnation

Game 2 would be on 3 days rest, as he pitched Tuesday, thus Wednesday/Thursday/Friday are the 3 rest with Saturday being the 4th day. Even if he couldn't go 1/4/7, if he had been available for 1/5/relief in 7 that would have meant he almost certainly would have had 2 starts. 3/7 means he likely gets 1 start. Now, CC on about 10 days rest might be a danger for the Yankees in 1 and Burnett in 4 will be a disaster, so all is not lost for the Rangers. Once again, NYY gets a break by having their opponents' ace unable to pitch in either of the first two games of the series, and Lee might just get one start overall. We have to hope that the Ballpark messes up Sabathia and Pettitte, though Pettitte will probably have his usual goddamn 'give up just enough hits to raise hope but then slam the door' playoff start and win again. The Yankees will do WHATEVER it takes to not face Cliff Lee in a Game 7, while the Rangers will do WHATEVER it takes to get the ball to their top guy. Of course, it's small consolation, as look who may face them later.

Is it a break though? Dave Cameron tries to explain that it's really no big deal...discounting difficult to measure things like the psychological effects of being "ahead" in a series, or the strategy of specific pitcher match-ups.
As one of the commenters put it:
Lee wins games 1/5: Rangers lose all non-Lee: lose series in 6 Rangers win 1 non-Lee: lose series in 7 Rangers win exactly 2 non-Lee: win series
Lee wins games 3/7: Rangers lose all non-Lee: lose series in 5 Rangers win 1 non-Lee: lose series in 6 Rangers win exactly 2 non-Lee: win series in 7

Seconded.
Really, the tenacity and never-say-die attitude is only endearing on a team that ISN'T the highest-paid in baseball.

So what happens now if you're the Yankees? Hope Sabathia and Hughes can each go 7 innings and have Rivera pitch 2 in both games? You clearly can't trust the middle relief anymore.
Teixiera going out would be the nail in the coffin of any other team, but...well...it's the Yankees.
Did anyone catch that dope in the Jeter jersey mouthing off to Cruz after the Cano homer while Cruz was making the interference case? You stay classy, Yankee fans.
I'm staggered over the idea that if the Rangers hadn't collapsed in Game 1, this would be a 4-game sweep. I would never have guessed it.
EDIT: I don't think I've ever seen Simmons push for the reverse jinx as much as I have over the past few days. I mean, REALLY pushing for it.

During the review, you could tell that the fans didn't 'help' the ball reach the stands, but they did interfere with Cruz's glove and kind of impeded it from reaching the ball. I think that's what the umpires determined, that the ball was out of reach. But I thought for a second they might call it intereference with the glove but not the ball.
And then shades of Bartman down the third base line later in the game (shivers).
I'd hate to see what would happen to a baseball if Josh Hamilton ever got a full swing on one. It looks like he just reaches the bat out and flips the ball out of the standium. He's freaky strong.
