    This is what happened. They weirdly listed him as a guest actor despite being a regular, so he won that category instead. Maybe they thought they were working the system to get him (and the show) a better chance at an easier award, and it turned out they would've been better of playing it straight?


You would think Lithgow would've insisted on the producers putting him up for the bigger award.

What we're saying is Lithgow wasn't eligible for the "supporting actor" category because of the way he was credited.

Jimmy Smits also got a guest-actor nomination for his season-long role in S3 of Dexter, so I guess that might be a show policy to have the seasonal nemesis be a 'guest actor.' Perhaps so as not to hurt the feelings of the regular cast when a new guy joins up and blows them all (save Hall) out of the water?

Lithgow already has a couple of Emmys anyways, so I was happy to see him get his well-deserved guest award AND see Aaron Paul get his well-deserved supporting award.
