"If you were over 40, I'd chop your f***ing head off. I want a guy who is entering the prime of his career and shape him and mold him."

"Imagine if all they did the entire show was promote the Beer Money vs. Motor City Machineguns match and had Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and the ECW guys saying they needed to see that match and said these guys are the future now. Then, if you put that match in the main event - as opposed to the middle of the card with no follow-up - and produce and present them as the main event. Then, if 'you buy this product, this is the progressive type of presentation we are going to present to you.' Instead, you have Hulk Hogan in his 50s thanking ECW guys in their 40s before the ECW guys are beat up by a group led by Ric Flair in his 60s."

Unless IT'S A SWERVE!!!1!11!!

Actually, I just went to Rajah.com and they had an article with the above quotes. It's in context of how TNA has been talking to Paul about joining them and how he doesn't think they're "ready" for him yet. The above comments specifically are in the context of what he'd do if he WAS in charge. But no, I don't think this will put the rumors to rest. I think this will heat them up, as I don't think he'd talk so openly about his ideas if he wasn't interested in joining them.

Heyman is right in some regards. There really is no need for Hogan/Sting/Nash/Jarrett as well as continuing EV 2.0 past last week. Flair is still amazing on the mic and if given the opportunity to can help young guys like Jay Lethal and so on. Hogan is still someone that attract viewers in some regards. Its all on how you use those people which TNA at times has not done well. MCMG vs. Beer Money should have ended the show and maybe move the EV 2.0 beating to the top of the show. I do think Fortune taking them out was a good move since it does get young people over like Fortune. I think what Paul wants to do with the show is not going to happen while Hogan and Bischoff are there. That means maybe sometime in 2012, he may join them, but I doubt it.

This may be what Heyman means when he says that TNA isn't "ready" for him yet.

But, of course, that's just pure speculation on my part.

Didn't Paul put the ECW championship belt on the long past 40 Terry Funk on the first ECW PPV?

I love Flair as a manager, and Kurt should stay, but I agree with the rest.

From this and the video he did after Brock's last UFC fight, it seems apparent that Heyman does not want to come in and have to deal with booking by committee. So basically, unless Bischoff/Hogan/Russo are tossed, I don't see it happening.

15 years later...

More remember Paul promoting guys like Raven, Dreamer, etc. (you know the names already) than they remember keeping Funk in the spotlight, which he didn't. Paying respect to the guys who came before you was something Heyman believed in, just not all the guys who came before you, nor the guys who came way before you and are still there. I think the message was more about how young talent should be displayed a bit more prominently, and unto itself, than older talent who know more tricks, though many of them have already been seen and they're not learning any new ones.

I could speculate about where exactly Paul Heyman is coming from, but be inaccurate far too often, now that I think of it.

Also, Tommy Rich was old back when the FBI first was invented. I think Paul has a place he'd like to see older talent used, just not in the way TNA uses them.

Plus Funk could still work, and Funk was ultimately there to get over Douglas, Public Enemy, Raven, etc. as ECW money players (in small bills). "Passing the torch" has become a bastardized and meaningless term now but that's actually an example of it. In TNA, the Sting and Nash types have no rub to give and serve no purpose. Hogan has name value, but even if Hogan had no agenda and his #1 life goal changed to being the ultimate team player, he can't physically do it. And Foley and Flair can't wrestle but can do great interviews, so they could still be useful, but when they're around in combo with everyone else, they're adding to the ratio of oldtimers blocking spots.

The problem is the "correct" way to use Hogan and probably even Flair and Foley is not a role they are willing to accept. So again, we're back to "chopping off their head".

I said back when the ECW/Heyman rumors started that if he's the genius everybody thinks then there is no way he'd be a part of it. If he's as smart as everyone thinks then he knows the ECW guys are done and that's pretty telling that even Heyman doesn't want a part of EV2.0.

For the record, RVD will be 40 in a few months also. I'm not a huge RVD fan but I don't think he should be kicked to the curb yet either.
