To channel Stewie Griffin: Did they ever find a successful vehicle for James Badge Dale?
I thought it’d be hard to resist calling him Chase, but with the ‘do JBD sports in this show, and with his character’s name being Will, it’s harder not calling Schu.
The third episode of this new show aired last night. It debuted last week to lots of critical acclaim (though the pilot has been available online for over a month). My hunch is that the praise has a lot to do with it being an AMC show. I like the show a lot so far, but it’s quite s-l-o-w. Maybe a little dry. But they’ve done a good job so far of adding in bits of personality and depth to the supporting players.
I’m a huge sucker for conspiracy shows, so this is easily appointment viewing. The pacing suggests that discovering and unraveling the conspiracy are going to require some patience, so hopefully the payoff is worth it.
The biggest mystery of all is how they managed to film practically the whole show blocks from my workplace and I never noticed. The "American Policy Institute" is about half a block away from what used to be a huge dive bar that I used to go to a lot.

I've only read one review of the show, by USAToday's Robert Bianco, and he certainly wasn't praising it. The main problem is just as you said, it's really dry and slow. I watched the first two episodes last week (after catching the sneak peek after an episode of Breaking Bad earlier in the Spring) and it just felt like nothing happened for two-thirds of it. The conspiracy angle suckered me in too, and this week's episode was a bit stronger. I'll keep it on my list for now, but it's not a guarantee that I'll stick out the season.
