Saw this last night with the family. By far the best cartoon or family movie I've seen this year. More laughs than Shrek and Toy Story combined.

Saw it in 2D and only a few times did I think "that would have been cool in 3D". Overall a terrific movie.

The Minions stole every scene they were a part of. I was wondering why all the Minions hype, especially the IHOP stuff, but it's clear they are capable of holding their own and bringing the laughs.

Saw it this morning and thought it was good but not on the level of TS3. Tried to use th Best Buy movie app that translates the minions at the end credits but it didn't work. Some are saying it only works on the 3d version which makes no sense but we did the regular one so maybe. Runs down the battery, that's for sure.

Toy Story had more going for it as far as being a known brand, so you felt more connection to the characters. But, for my money, Despicable Me had more laughs, plain and simple.
YMMV.

Very solid movie. Laughed out loud several times.

My only complaint was that I felt I had seen about 40% of the movie already with all the various ads, previews, and trailers.

The voice casting and acting were tremendous.

Liked it a lot. Not on the same level as Toy Story 3 for me, but it's very entertaining, clever, and I had a fun time with my niece and nephew. (Gru's half-assed parenting reminded me a lot of me wrangling those kids when they were younger.) Steve Carell was terrific but I was also impressed with Miranda Cosgrove's voice work. I thought the 3D was really good too, especially the gags during the end credits.

Review with SPOILERS if you haven't seen it yet:

Also, there was a throwaway sight gag that cracked me up at the very end of Despicable Me: Gru uses a Gru-ray disc player. I don't know why but I found that hilarious.

Caught that too. It's really not that funny in hindsight, but at the time, I loved it.

My favorite part (based on my real-time reaction) was

using one of the Minions as a glow stick.
I can't explain why that cracked me up so much, but it did.

This is probably my favorite movie this year (or at least a very close second). Didn't have (couldn't have) the emotional impact of TS3, but it made up for it with everything else. 3D was spectacular.

The Best Buy movie app worked for us and there were some great lines.

Yes, the Minions are awesome, but I am already dreading the eventual Minion overkill we will surely experience as this franchise grows. It'll be sad.

EDIT: BTW, what's the policy on spoilers in movie threads? I edited to use tags, just in case.

"Use your best judgment?" Don't bother me none, but I don't see a lot of movies. By the time a movie's out on DVD, they're probably not necessary (unless you're using them to be ironic and hilarious, of course)

No surprise, a Despicable Me sequel is on the way. So are shorts starring the Minions.

I just saw this today and while I enjoyed it, I thought TS3 was better. But I really did enjoy DM and thought all the voices were great and the gags were funny. But I guess my emotional ties to Woody and Buzz tipped the scales.

However, the Minions were awesome and I loved them. Much like the aliens in TS but funnier. I have no problem with minion shorts. Bring them on!!

As for a sequel, sure, why not? Worse movies have been made into sequels.

Finally saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. The one-upsmanship between Gru and Vector was pretty great and I loved the old man. The way he mis-heard and consequently mis-designed some of Gru's ideas was pretty funny. And the little girls were adorable. They finally broke him down with what else? A unicorn.

It took me about a third of the movie to stop hearing Mike Myers and start hearing Steve Carell, but I picked up iCarly pretty quick.

They slept in bombs. BOMBS.

LiiiightBULB. And I felt like I was on that roller coaster.

Finally took my kids to see it in 2-D. We got some good laughs out of it, but my favorite sight gag was the former name of the "Bank of Evil." (Formerly Lehman Brothers). Would have liked to have seen the rollercoaster scene in 3-D, but not enough to have paid the extra dough.

Did not recognize Kristen Wiig's voice at all, nor Russell Brand's which was a real surprise when I saw the end credits.

My kids loved the kids and the minions and I'm sure we'll all be up for the sequel. Good times.

It isn't Pixar, but then what is? Seems like Dreamworks is starting to produce better animated films. I liked Kung Fu Panda a lot and this was pretty goo. The Minions are great and Agnes is adorable.

Wasn't a huge fan of Steve Carrell's voicework though. Love the guy, but I think Gru would have worked better with someone a bit more intimidating. I'd like to see how it would have played if someone like Christopher Lee was reading the lines.
