GOOOO SHARKS

I wonder which game 3, 4 and 6 will be shown when the Pittsburgh/Montreal series and the San Jose/Detroit games start at essentially the same time. (I know the answer - the ones starting at 7, not 7:30, most likely - and it's kinda depressing - well, maybe one of them will sweep and avoid the conflict)

They'll probably show the Red Wings games, I think they still get the highest ratings of any hockey team don't they?

Then again, I think the Wings will sweep.

Pittsburgh in 5
Philadelphia in 7
Detroit in 4
Vancouver in 6

If Chicago does win and I'm right on the other 3, that'd be two awesome conference finals matchups.

For us Canadians CBC has the Pit/Mon and Chi/Van series and TSN has Bos/Phi and SJ/Det series.

My Predicitions:
Pit in 5
Bos in 7
SJ in 6
Van in 6

Versus' strategy on staggered starts in the first round was to show the first game and then pop over for the remainder of the next game.

I echo these predictions both in winners and games.

I'm shocked to see that on Sunday NBC has the Pens game at 2:00pm but the Wings game is at 8:00pm, presumably elsewhere. Seems like a perfect double-header. Don't understand the logice of having game 1 of the Wings series tonight and then waiting 3 days to have game 2 on a Sunday night.

Especially when DRW and Montreal both get only one day off. I guess that's the penalty for being the only two teams to going 7 but that seems inhumane. PENS CONSPIRACY.

It's going to be Pittsburgh/Detroit again, isn't it? I can't do it again. I just can't.

Oh, it's real. It's damn real!

EDIT: On a humorous note...San Jose? Really? Really? You're gonna have to do a little better than that. Hell, pulling the fire alarms at the Wings' hotel is more intimidating than that. But I suppose San Jose needs the money, too.

The Blackhawks dodged the bullet that would have killed them. Its going to be Hawks/Canadians.

Canadians in 5. Flurry is not a shutdown goalie and thus the Pens will lose this series.

Flyers in 4. If anyone has an easy round its these guys.

Blackhawks in 5. They will roll now.

San Jose in 6. I am going with another upset.

The Capitals played like shit in six of seven games and that series still went 7. Pittsburgh is a much better playoff team than Washington (no D, freelance offense, no puck support, bad penalty kill). God bless Montreal for what they did, but they had the 19th best record in the league, they have no depth, they trailed 3-1 in the series, and they gave up 40-50 shots each game. Montreal busted their asses backchecking and blocking shots, but Was/Mon was more of a referendum on the Caps' failures and inadequacies than an indication that Montreal is some kind of powerhouse about to take off.

Halak Insane Obama is awesome but he got blown up and benched for Price in the same series. People were similarly spooked by Cam Ward's hotness last year and that didn't end up being a problem. And shitty, sucky Fleury hasn't prevented the Penguins from winning seven rounds in the last two years.

Canadiens should have big pushes in game 1 (riding the adrenaline of shocking the world) and game 3 (heroes' welcome from the bonkers Montreal crowd) but I think they run out of gas badly. If not, the legend grows.

Shitty Fluery has lead to series going to an extra game or two though. I still think a hot goalie can you far into the playoffs.

I agree, but usually you have to give a goalie more than three games before calling him 'hot'. Washington was up 3-1 in that series don't forget.

And Fleury won a stanley cup last year, don't know why you keep calling him 'shitty' just because he 'gives up easy goals'. Like that one goal he gave up on game 7 last year? Or the 2 against these amazing Capitals in that game 7? Christ.

This terrible bias against the Sharks will not stand. They're still a #1 seed, people!

Anyway, thanks to information gleaned from Shaft's linked story, it looks like the reason for the Thu/Sun scheduling is that The Eagles had already booked the Shark Tank for Friday and Saturday, which is hilarious - but not quite as hilarious as the "Ovechkin's smile gone" picture and subheadline over at NHL.com:

Penguins in 6 (and it hurts to physically type that)
Bruins in 7 (nothing good ever came out of Philly including the cheesesteaks)

Sharks in 7 (I was an original Cow Palace season ticket holder)
Blackhawks in 7 (I have never liked the Canucks except for Game 7 in 1994 when they lost - Let's Go Rangers !)

As for Goalies - Halak has been very "Dryden-esque" in their last 2 games but I don't see him carrying it through. Fleury isn't great goalie but he does what he needs to win. I don't expect to hear Chris Osgood's name in 20 years when great goalies are being discussed but he certainly has a few CUPS on his resume.

It's been a long time since I've had much to be really happy about as a Habs fan; last night's game was a lot of fun to watch. That said, I don't hold out much hope that Halak can keep up the insanity or that a smallish Montreal team can avoid injury and fatigue, especially with the all-out style they've been playing.

I'm surprised I haven't seen mention of the possibility for an Original Six showdown in the conference finals:

Chicago over Vancouver
Detroit over San Jose
Montreal over Pittsburgh
Boston over Philadelphia

Then they could do it up 1952 stylee (or as near as conference alignment would allow...).

Back in the real world, however, I think we're more likely to see:

Chicago over Vancouver in 6
San Jose over Detroit in 6
Pittsburgh over Montreal in 5 (*sob*)
Boston over Philadelphia in 7

There's a hockey forum I frequent where they are drooling over the possibility of a DET/CHI and MON/BOS conference finals. And if that's the case it would be the first time we've had an original 6 final sine 78/79 when it was Montreal/New York

Chicago beats Vancouver in 6
Detroit beats San Jose in 5
Pittsburgh beats Montreal in 7
Boston beats Philadelphia in 4 (okay, that's a fantasy...mostly because there's little reason for Philadelphia to exist in the first place, and their crybaby fanbase is so obsessed with Sidney Crosby, most of them couldn't name a single player on their own team to save their lives.)

My dream final amongst who's left is Chicago and Boston.
