An interesting question that's popped in my head and something I think would be fun to look back at in about 10 months. Now that Undertaker's streak is at 18 and counting, I'm wondering who tries to make himself famous next.

I thought about Cena, which would draw tons of money. Ditto for Goldberg, if the rumors are true. But really, for me, there's only one guy who can challenge UT at next year's Wrestlemania.

Triple H.

The big Shawn Michaels send-off has me thinking Triple H tries to avenge Shawn's loss next year. A UT/HHH match has just enough star power to still sell and it would simultaneously keep Hunter in the upper-card while keeping him out of the title picture. It's also a nice coincidence that it would be the ten year anniversary of their LAST Wrestlemania fight, an awesome near-classic at Wrestlemania X-7.

Anyway, who do you see trying to break UT's streak next year?

Cena. They've been holding off on a marquee Cena/UT match for years now.

If Cena breaks the streak, the amount of heat he gets now will be nothing compared to he will get after that. You would have turn Cena heel to do it which is something they refuse to do mainly due to elementary kids being the demographic. HHH has already lost, I can see Jericho or CM Punk going for it. I figure when he hits 20, we will never see him again til the HOF.

I've been going with "Undertaker retires with the streak unbroken" for a while now. So I don't think it really matters who tries.

Gotta be Cena ... I figure 'Taker has 2 more Wrestlemanias in him so he can go out at 20-0 ... or maybe Punk at WM27 & Cena at WM28 ...

I think they'd save Cena for 20-0, the downside being they wouldn't be entirely sure if Taker would be ready to go in 2 years. HHH is the safe bet right now, Goldberg would be the coolest, and Miz is a dark horse.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say that to keep things interesting next year and seemingly stack the odds against Taker keeping his streak alive, they go for a triple threat match. HHH, Taker, and... Kane, perhaps?

HHH's motives would be obvious, but he'd almost have to play the face in that scenario, and I can't see him holding out on turning heel any longer than SummerSlam this year. But still, he makes the most sense.

And Kane, I'll say they throw him in there just for fun, to give him something to do. All have history together, Kane can say that if anyone should break the streak it should be Taker's brother, and voila.

I think for 28, they have to pull the trigger on some younger guy flipping the tables on Undertaker and telling him it's time to retire, leading to a retirement match of some sort. If not, and they plan for him to retire with the streak intact, I'd think Cena would be the go-to guy to be the final casualty of the streak. It's one of the last big-money matches they have left.

I think UT's streak is at the point where it's the main can't-miss attraction for Mania until he retires, so I can't see them doing a tepid three-way match. He's gonna get big big opponents form now until the end.

I would guess Cena would be the WrestleMania 28 opponent for Undertaker as his 20th (and final) victory. Cena is the great white whale.

This would never happen, but it would interesting if Goldberg came back for next year's WrestleMania and challenged the Streak. Goldberg knows a little something about Streaks. But after the epic matches with HBK two years in a row, an (aging) Undertaker match with (an aging) Goldberg would be an epic letdown. Plus Goldberg stated he only wants to wrestle so his son could see him. Losing to Undertaker probably isn't what he'd want his son's only memory of him in the ring to be.

My guess for next year would be Jericho since we didn't get that Undertaker vs. Jericho WrestleMania showdown people were clamoring for six months ago. Batista is another option too

Batista and Jericho are good choices, I think WM27 being in Atlanta is perhaps the only reason people want to see Goldberg challenge it.. Goldberg in Atlanta would be one of the very few people that marks would think stood a chance, so that'd be a benefit. I highly doubt he loses at WM next year though, so it really won't matter who he faces.

I would be disappointed if the streak was broken by a non-longtime WWE guy. If Goldberg came in and took the streak and ran off into the sunset, it would cheapen the win. It has to be someone who has been around for a long time and will still be around because it will be a passing of the torch, so to speak.

I'm sure Taker has enough clout that he can veto any streak enders he doesn't like. Like what Hogan said about Andre about WM3 (more or less), if he doesn't think you're worthy, he won't let you win.

If someone was to break his streak it would have to be either Orton or Cena. Those are your new lifers, they carry the company into the future as the faces of the WWE. Vince is probably stronger on those two than anybody.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd say Cena since he's Superman, and is the new current WWE paragon. Then again Taker throughout his career took out top guys at WM....

Streak stays intact till he retires in two years. I'm sure Cena will get the last match with him though. That would be an awesome way to end it too.

Except no one will say 'well Cena sucks' if he loses. It'd be almost wasted since it wouldn't really help him out any more, he's already over as hell and would be even if he lost to the popular Undertaker in a hard fought match.

The Streak is the gift that keeps on giving. Got a top guy without a title program headed into Mania? Put him in there with the Deadman to try and break the Streak! Have Jericho give it a shot next year - he'd get a good match out of UT and the lead-up could match what they accomplished this year. Then Jericho would lose, as he should, and we find the new guy next year.

I can't see the Undertaker losing at Wrestlemania. Anyone who would get the rub from breaking the Streak wouldn't really need it in the first place. Really, at this point the ONLY guy who should even be considered to break it would be a returning HBK.

The only way they can sell a WM match involving the Undertaker now is to play up the "He's getting to be an old bugger angle" and have him defying the odds. Especially in the run up to WM28 where he would hopefully be up for his 20th win and retirement. Even to the point if maybe having him on somewhat of a (by his standards) losing streak beforehand and he has to drag his arse over the finish line and then gets the super farewell.

However, saying all that... Who really buys anything other than him going 20-0 and retiring? Unless they come up with the angle of all angles, whoever they put up against him is doomed both from the streak point of view and up against 2 UT vs Michaels matches to compare against.

I could see a returning Kurt Angle end it, provided he gets his act together physically and mentally.

They have painted themselves into a corner here, because if HBK could put on those kind of matches with him and still not win, then what kind of match would the next guy have to have?

It really shouldn't be considered a consecutive wins streak, as he took WM 10 and 16 off.

His WWF/E run has been amazing, as he basically debuted as a main event star and never looked back.
He doesn't seem to catch the same "Cena always wins" or "HHH always wins" flack from the fans.

The only story-line that could put it in doubt is if they were to book HHH as Vince's son-in-law and threaten a screw-job ending.

Jericho would be great in the build-up, but noone would buy him ending the streak.

Lastly, Cena should be #20 and should lose. The streak is Taker's reward for being Vince's company guy for over two decades.
