According to nba.com, Commissioner David Stern has suspended the former all-star Gilbert Arenas and fellow teammate Javaris Crittenton for their role in bringing guns to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Gilbert is awaiting his trial on March 26 for carrying an unlicensed firearm and will know how much jail time he will serve. Javaris Crittenton pleaded guilty for carrying an unlicensed firearm and is serving 1 year unsupervised probation and is to mentor children in Haiti and aid in the efforts.

Gilbert will be suspended without pay costing him $7.4 million the rest of the season; Arenas still has 4 more years on his 6 year, $111 million contract.

Thoughts and Analysis:

I honestly do not know where to start. Gilbert Arenas' worth is falling faster than stock in the recession. Gilbert Arenas still has some good years ahead of him, but time will tell how much worth he has, depending on how long his sentence is.

I also think Javaris Crittenton got off a lot easier. The website also states that the Wizards were unsure they were going to keep Crittenton even before the incident.

It's a shame that some players sacrifice a good (paying) career for unlawful acts.

That's it? That's all? Sigh. I've got nothing but disappointment.

Gilbert is awaiting his trial on March 26..

Arenas, the 28-year-old Washington Wizards star who created a firestorm in the NBA by bringing four guns to the team's locker room at the Verizon Center last month, will be sentenced March 26 after appearing in Superior Court to answer the felony gun possession charge. Judge Robert Warren will determine the sentence after Arenas waived his right to a jury trial.

It's my understanding that under the standard NBA contract, the Wizards can void Arenas' deal for committing a felony (already stipulated), once the suspension is up.

I think the Wizards potentially voiding Arenas's contract is even more of a punishment, as Agent Zero stands to lose close to $80 million. Hope he still thinks his prank was funny.

Crittenton could be in more trouble than we think. He's not making Gilbert Arenas money and he doesn't look like the type to save frugally. Ric Bucher's Twitter actually said Crittenton would be likely to contest the suspension, just because he can't afford to lose that much money.

If the Wizards try to void Arenas' contract, the player's association will appeal, guaranteed, and seeing as how they were able to do wonders with Latrell Sprewell, I can't imagine the voiding of Arenas' contract would stand.

I agree; if the Wizards do void his contract, it will be the worst of things as he will lose close to $80 million and a team's trust.

If he comes back soon, I wonder if he would be considered a liability and if teams would be reluctant to sign the former all-star.......then again, he still is quite talented so it probably wouldn't take him that long to find another team if the Wizards do decide to void his contract once his suspension is up.

I would also like to state that Gilbert Arenas has been injury-prone the last couple seasons and has posted more blogs than points (that's another area of consideration if he does move to another team).
