Cuse, once again, talked about how he and Lindelof had come up with the final image of the series years ago, and the mythology is all set, and intact, in order to get to that final scene, but that the characters were still the things that they needed to work out. Lindelof predicted that people will be discussing the finale, with some loving it and some hating it - and that if there wasn't fan debate, then it wouldn't really feel like Lost.
Cuse went on to say that "obviously not every question's going to be answered" and that he hopes to leave everyone with a "healthy cocktail of answers, mystery character resolution and some surprises." Lindelof said that the final season, specifically, had to take things back to Season 1, so that we could see how much the characters had changed and grown since the beginning.
Okay, we've finally caught up with the hype by watching the entire "Lost" run through NetFlix (via XBox Live) ... Actually, we watched the two-part Season Five finale back on Christmas Eve, but it took up until now to go back into The W's archives and read every thread pertaining to the show ever written.
It's a shame I couldn't have followed these things in real-time; you guys had some very entertaining discussions on the show, and I even learned some things that I was unaware of ... It's good preparation for Season Six ;)

| #2 Posted on 13.1.10 1054.28 Reposted on: 13.1.17 1054.37 | I've been lurking on this board for a while, and have only now decided to register and start posting because I finally got 3G in my area (thanks, T-Mobile, welcome to 2008) so I can post from work.
Anyway, I've read just about every thread on here about Lost in the past couple years, and I've been a huge fan of the show since it premiered. I've gotta echo the sentiments and say that I'm kinda disappointed but not surprised that there will be mysteries left unsolved. I don't remember where exactly I read it, but it was only a couple months ago that Cuse & Lindelof said in an interview that all the loose ends would be tied up. I'm thinking that they're getting a bunch of questions at their recent panels about smaller mysteries/(gasp)inconsistencies they forgot existed. And since they only have 7 episodes left to film and most of those are likely in some stage of pre-production, they can't exactly go back and include stuff they left out.
In the same panel that was referenced on IGN, they also said that there are no chances for spin-offs or sequels in the future. I guess we'll just have to take what they give us and be satisfied. With a mythology as deep as theirs has grown, I'd be willing to bet there will be some novelizations in the post-finale months and years to fill in the blanks.
I, for one, am still holding onto hope that they'll bring Eko back for at least a cameo. One more scene with he and Locke would make my year. | OlFuzzyBastard

Just like Tracy Jordan, if you explain it me in Star Wars, I'm much more likely to be on your side.

The poster certainly makes that look promising.

Maybe to leave the door open for a possible tv/theater movie somewhere down the road?
I like this promotional picture for the last season of LOST.

I'm not sure I wanted this spoiled for me (I avoid LOST podcasts like the plague) but HALLELUJAH PRAISE JEEBUS anyway. I guess I expected that issue to never be resolved since one of the writers/producers/somebody said in DVD commentary that she was gone from the show and wouldn't be coming back. For a long time I refused to believe it but after a couple of seasons I guess I gave up. Woohoo!

We all had similar reactions when we found out she was coming back in Season 4, but then that turned out to be...yeah. I'm holding back my excitement for the time being. :-)
Has anyone been keeping up with set reports and casting spoilers? I have, but it doesn't seem to do much good, cause I have no frickin clue what I'm supposed to be reading. I will put two casting spoilers here that made me quite happy...

Keamy and Mikhail are back, and not just in cameos |
In terms of answering all outstanding questions, I think for certain situations we will end up getting general rules or paradigms that we can apply to different situations and answer things for ourselves. In a way, that'd be more satisfying than having them walk us through every little thing and spell them out.

Pretty much everybody is back. Without exaggeration - the only semi-regulars I haven't heard are popping up this season are Nikki and Paolo and who gives a shit? That and there's conflicts about whether or not they can get Maggie Grace because, I don't know, she's busy filming Taken three years ago? But otherwise I have heard specific mentions of Charlie, Michael, Boone, Mr. Eko, Ana Lucia, Libby, Faraday, Walt, Alex, Charlotte, Rousseau, Mikhail, Keamy and Claire is back in the credited cast, along with the presumed dead Sayid and Juliet.) |

Well, who the hell knows who's dead? 30 years ago an H-Bomb went off. For all we know, the season could start with everybody living their normal lives as if the plane had never went down. (And then all are inexplicably drawn to the island, because, well, it does that.) |

I totally agree with this. I think they'll tie up all the major stuff ad most the non-major stuff, but there will be some "what about ???" from people browsing thru sites like Lostpedia.
And I think it's probably better that way. Shows that tend to resolve every story in their final episode(s) usually end up losing the story for it. I'd be disappointed if I didn't get enough answers, but watching an answer guide for two hours as the last ever episode of Lost would be disappointing in it's own way.
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but this season has to be one of the toughest seasons of drama TV to write ever. The expectations are super high (and everyone's expectations are different) and there could not be more pressure to deliver, but you also a certain percentage of people will be unhappy with what you because it was not what they thought would happen. It's a super challenging job. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
