This has to be the most EPIC interview I have ever had the pleasure of seeing! Seriously, made of awesome.
"Jay, my mother is watching this show. Actually, wait. your show is canceled because no one is watching your show so she isn't watching".
And that's TAME compared to some of the comments he made.
EDIT: What would complete this? Fallon + The Roots doing the SLOW JAM the recent Late Night events.

Jimmy's throwning down and throwning down hard. And I'm really starting to consider checking him out on a more regular bacis because of it.
I can't believe NBC allowed a rival network's host on their airtime and am even more shocked they allowed such a verbal asskicking to take place totally unedited. You would think if they really cared about Leno, they would try to protect him by censoring some of Kimmel's answers. It shows how stupid they look right now or they really don't care at this point about saving anyone's face in this mess. | lotjx

They can't boot Kimmel off the show then grab random star on the sidewalk to do the show. Kimmel knows that, since he is doing the exact same gig, so he used it to his advantage. Conan is in the same boat too, even if they edited the monologue they have to make-up the time somewhere else and Conan could tell them to fuck off that is the final product then its up to NBC where to fill time. Hell, with the contract Conan has, NBC may not be allowed to edit the show unless Conan gives the ok, first. NBC also doesn't seem to care either since they are already the villain of the story, so Conan and others take a few shots, guess what NBC will be around after next week, Conan and others won't. I am sure that is the mindset of the company right now. | dwaters

Since it is pre-taped, wouldn't Leno have to approve this before it aired?

Somewhere else in this thread it was already referenced, but "Controversy Creates Cash."
Ratings are way up for the Tonight Show and probably for Leno too, so in the short-term, NBC's getting exactly what they want - more eyeballs. In the long term, that's another story... Who is exactly going to watch The Tonight Show With Jay Leno V.2 after all this? After he's been branded a failure and all the negativity and publicity? Leno's audience doesn't tend to be the vocal internet savvy crowd. It's more like the passive zombie "Wheel of Fortune" crowd. I DO question whether or not NBC will be successful at training that crowd to tune back in at 11:35, but who knows.
As for me, I'm not a Leno fan and won't watch his Tonight Show any more than I did before (which was never). Conan's Tonight Show actually got me watching late night talk shows again for the first time in years, even if I was ultimately flipping between him and Dave waiting for Ferguson to come on.
I would love to see Leno bomb, just as I'd hoped that 17 years ago, but I don't expect him to. | SchippeWreck

Just what I was going to say! Honestly, the pro-Leno crowd all seems to be forgetting that Leno was given YEARS to develop into the classless douchebag he is. Letterman trounced him regularly, and it took a sleazy hooker scandal to turn the ship around. | Broncolanche

Kimmel meant every damn word he said. I don't know whether or not Leno has the final say on what bits air, but if he does, he's either too stupid to realize that his peers are legitimately angry with him or he does realize it and just doesn't give a shit. | StingArmy

I sure would like to see some sources from you. You seem to have a lot of insight into what NBC and Jay Leno are each doing or thinking behind the scenes.

He might realize and not care, but I don't think you can accuse him of not even realizing it. I believe he even made a joke about it in last night's monologue (something about blaming Leno for some other random problem in the news).

I don't think Leno was expecting to get hammered on every question that's why the last couple were set up that way. Kimmel twisted every question around so wonderfully that the last two were just softballs.
Conan's monologues and the porn bit were just fantastic. Angry vintage Conan, oh how I missed thee. |
