I am utterly in awe of Usain Bolt.

He just became the first man to go under 9.6s (having already been the only man under 9.7) and at a mere 22 years of age apparently fancies he can work on getting that down to 9.4 (news.bbc.co.uk).

For the record Tyson Gay broke the US record at 9.71 but the poor guy is about as unlucky as it's possible for a millionaire athlete to be. One of the best sprinters the world's ever seen, but he'll never get much credit for it unless he can do the seemingly impossible and find a way to beat Bolt in the next couple years.

A much more relaxed than usual Asafa Powell took bronze in 9.84 but might as well have been in a different race.

On a side note, I hope this blue track malark doesn't catch on. Bleurgh.

I know it's not fair, but I can't believe he's doing this naturally. No way he's just that much better than anyone who ever lived.

I actually stopped what I was doing to watch this.
Bolt is amazing. What probably made the difference in time (compared to the Olympics) was the fact that he didn't showboat with half the race to go. Simply amazing.

Especially considering that the competition was better this time as well (Gay running 9.71 is a lot better than the silver medal in Beijing, 9.89)

And yes, I too hope the guy is totally natural. Assuming he is, he is a great ambassador for his sport.

I think I heard it on ESPN that he was requested to test twice during the Olympics and happily complied and passed both times.

Too bad he can't catch a football, he'd be a bazillionaire.

How do we know he can't catach a football?

That said, I would be more worried he would get injured.

And now he's gone and broken the 200m record as well.

I don't think it's too much of an understatement for me to say that this guy is an absolute freak of nature.
