Hi there! Here come the 164 DVDs and 12 Blu-rays which you can find on Tuesday (except for a few of them which will appear later in the week) along with the assorted information, links and goodies you may have come to expect from me every week. Thankfully, with the Independence Day holiday approaching, it was a light load, even though we'll all have recovered by Tuesday. Hopefully.

PICK OF THE WEEK
Peanuts: 1960's Collection (A Charlie Brown Christmas / Charlie Brown's All-Stars / It's the Great Pumpkin / You're in Love / He's Your Dog / It Was a Short Summer) (The W at Amazon) Having just come back from a visit to the Schulz museum in Santa Rosa (schulzmuseum.org), the timing couldn't be better. Two of these haven't appeared on DVD before, but on the down side bonus features on earlier individual releases didn't make it into this collection, so you may have to double dip even if you avoided the earlier releases, depending on how manic a collector you feel like being. Of course, as I type this there are some ridiculously low-priced used copies of three of them floating about...

MOVIES OF THE WEEK

THE BIG ONES

Knowing (USA/UK, 2009) (image removed) The numbers are trying to TELL him something! Nicolas Cage (image removed)
Knowing [Blu-ray]

The Unborn (2009) (image removed) "Yeah, you would have had a twin brother, but he died while you were in the womb." I am so glad we are once again exposed to that commercial - and that line - just one more time. Includes theatrical AND unrated, "too terrifying for theatres" versions - you lucky dog! (image removed)
The Unborn [Blu-ray]

Push (Canada/UK/USA, 2009) (image removed) Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou - I do not recall this movie at all, but it was out in February (image removed)
Push [Blu-ray]

Night Train (USA/Germany/Romania, 2009) (image removed) Danny Glover, Leelee Sobieski, Steve Zahn
Night Train [Blu-ray] Not to confuse it with...

Night Stalker (direct to video, 2009) (image removed)

A Day in the Life (Estonia/USA, 2009) (image removed) Omar Epps, Sticky Fingaz (also directed!!), Mekhi Phifer, Michael Rapaport, Bokeem Woodbine, Faizon Love - you know what they say about hip-hop action films financed by Estonians...they can't afford a website and have to settle for MySpace (myspace.com)

WTF OF THE WEEK
Evil Bong 2: King Bong (2009) (image removed) You don't have to be high to enjoy this movie - but I bet it REALLY helps. Trailer at Metacafe (metacafe.com)

WTF RUNNER-UP OF THE WEEK
See Dick Run (2009) (image removed) Answering the question "What's Kel Mitchell been up to?" Secondarily, "what's Todd Bridges been up to?" (What's scary is I used this EXACT SAME JOKE a month ago for a different release by this same distributor, except I used Jordan Knight and Joe Jackson instead) - anyway, they have a MySpace (myspace.com) and try not to let your eyes settle on the all caps phrase "HIS PENIS IS GONE!" on your way to the trailer

STRANGEST CAST LIST OF THE WEEK
Flying By (2009) (image removed) Billy Ray Cyrus, Heather Locklear, Olesya Rublin, Patricia Neal - it DOES scream out "Lifetime Movie Network" now that you mention it - more info at MTI (mtivideo.com)

The Deep [Blu-ray] (1977) (image removed) Jacqueline Bisset invents the wet T-shirt look - Robert Shaw, Nick Nolte, Louis Gossett Jr., Eli Wallach, did I mention Jacqueline Bisset in her wet T-shirt? I think that's why they invented Blu-ray!

Yeah, Reno 911 is still around, and with two new cast members. I still make it appointment TV, and it hasn't really dropped a ton in quality I don't think, even though I'd much rather have Garcia and Johnson back then the two new guys, who do nothing for me.

I find it ridiculous that people pre-order DVDs 2 months in advance.

I'd agree with you EXCEPT that for stuff you KNOW you would be getting on Day One anyway, preordering as soon as possible ensures you will pay Amazon's lowest offered price from the time you order it until the day of release, and in today's economy, a couple bucks here or there never hurts.

Also, it doesn't take a LOT of copies to move something up to #1 early out...this is why you see some weeks changing a few times before we actually get there.

If it's something I really want and I know I'm going to order, I don't see the harm in pre-ordering.

Usually, I'll only pre-order if I am placing an order at the same time.

In the old days, I would get DVDs from Amazon on the Satruday before the street date.
