- Jericho vs Rey was great. Probably Rey's best match since his run with Eddie.
- The Scramble was better than it should have been.
- Edge and Jericho winning the tag titles was a smart move. Get them out there on every show and elevate the tag titles at the same time. Edge and Christian might have been smarter, because it's what everyone seems to be craving.
The Rest
- Kane's back.
- Punk vs Hardy was a letdown. Armstrong's reaction to being kicked was great though. He looks back with a WTF look and then throws up a DQ.
- Miz vs Cena. Just a dumb business move. Austin wouldn't have worked with Miz, and Rock might have put him over so Cena is at least in the middle somewhere, but the WWE should be building stars not throwing them away as cannon fodder.
- Romeo Crennel or Vinny Del Negro must be in charge of time management tonight.
- Helmsley/Orton ... other than HHH throwing the first fall to gain an edge in the next fall it was basically the same stuff we've all seen before with these two.
PPV started off looking like it might be a winner, but fell off pretty quickly. It had one great match, which I don't know if that justifies a PPV buy these days.

Are you joking? You call that a letdown? You didn't even describe all the awesomeness that happened. Friends, that match was a textbook display on How to Draw Money. Yes, it ended on an absurd DQ. But that's not the issue at all.
Hardy hit the Twist of Fate and the Swanton. He pinned Punk but Punk's foot was under the bottom rope. The crowd and Hardy erupted when they thought he won the belt, but Scott Armstrong voided the call. Then Punk attempts the GTS but Hardy elbows him in the eye. AND PUNK SELLS IT LIKE HIS EYE WAS RIPPED OUT OF HIS SOCKET. It was brilliant. He huddles in the corner covering his eye and when Armstrong turn around, he KICKS ARMSTRONG IN THE BACK and got DQ'd.
The way it played, it worked two ways: One, if you believe Punk was feigning the eye to be worse than it really was (and he sold it like he lost his eye until he got to the back) then he got DQ'd on purpose to save the title. Or, if you believe he really was hurt, then he thought he was kicking Jeff. Either way, Punk has a leg to stand on. Is he a heel or not? It worked both ways (but occasionally, while holding his eye and screaming in pain, he smiled heelishly.) That that wasn't the best part.
THE BEST PART was JEFF HARDY WENT PSYCHOTIC. He went after Punk and tried to beat the shit out of him. The crowd went absolutely bonkers for Jeff Hardy going absolutely bonkers. Keep in mind, a few months ago, Matt Hardy confessed to burning down his house, lighting him on fire with his pyro, killing his dog, and attempted vehicular homicide on him and his girl and Jeff WASN'T HALF AS PISSED OFF AT MATT AS HE IS AT PUNK. He went after Punk like a man possessed, out for blood. It was fucking awesome. The rematch between these two has so much heat now because of how well that match was booked. Michael Hayes, who presumably booked this as Smackdown's head booker, guaranteed these guys will be able to draw money in the future against each other. Hell, I'd pay to see Jeff vs. Punk right f'n now.
Contrast that to the death knell booking of the final hour where Cena squashes Miz in five minutes as I expected he would, and the BS of a Three Stages of Hell where Triple H spent the whole match slicing Orton's balls off with hedgeclippers and demolishing Legacy despite not actually winning the title. Two matches involving six guys from RAW in the last hour where no one ended up looking good and the heels were buried by the faces and made to look worthless.
Smackdown >>>>>>>>>>>>>> RAW.
I yearn for a Smackdown-only PPV where I don't have to watch RAW shit.

Take out the surprise of Edge/Y2J and the amazing match between Jericho and Rey, and you easily have the worst PPV of the year in my mind.

Dark Match: R-Truth d. Shelton Benjamin.
ECW Championship Scramble Match: Tommy Dreamer retains v. Jack Swagger, Christian, Mark Henry and Finlay. Interim champions, in order, were Swagger, Finlay, Henry, Swagger, Christian, and finally Dreamer again.
Mask vs. Title Match for WWE Intercontinental Title: Rey Mysterio d. Chris Jericho to win the title. This is Mysterio's second reign as I-C Champion.
Dolph Ziggler d. The Great Khali in a falls-count-anywhere match when Kane interfered, annihilating Khali with a metal folding chair. Um, so is Kane a face now? 'Cuz I have a hard time buying Khali as a face.
Tag-Team Triangle Match for Unified World Tag Team Title: Chris Jericho and Edge [Team Ego] d. The Colons and The Legacy to win the title. SmackDown! GM Theodore Long was pressured into doing something "spectacular" because he's on probation, so he inserted Edge and Jericho into the match. This makes Edge a 12-time World Tag Team Champion and 2-time WWE Tag Team Champion, and Jericho, a 4-time World Tag Team Champion and one-time WWE Tag Team Champion.
WWE Women's Championship Match: Michelle McCool d. Melina to win her first Women's Championship. McCool also becomes the first person to win both the Women's and Divas Championship-- not that the latter has been around all that long.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Jeff Hardy d. CM Punk by disqualification, allowing Punk to retain the World Title. Hardy had apparently scored the pinfall on Punk, but upon further inspection by the referee it was determined that Punk's foot was under the bottom rope at the time. (Kind of like a Chris Benoit/Sid Vicious WCW Souled Out 2000 thing.) In this case, however, the match was restarted, and Punk-- suffering an apparent eye injury-- kicked the referee, getting disqualified. But did Punk do it on purpose?
John Cena d. The Miz. Fuck.
Three Stages of Hell Match for WWE Championship: Randy Orton d. Triple H, retaining the title. In the first fall, a standard wrestling match, Hunter deliberately got himself disqualified by annihilating Orton with a steel chair. (Hee. Kinda like a Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle Iron Man Match thing.) In the second fall, a Falls Count Anywhere match, Triple H brutalized Orton some more with the steel chair, and of course this time it was legal. He then Pedigreed Orton outside the ring and got the three-count. In the deciding fall, the Stretcher Match, Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase eventually got involved, and Orton pulled it out when he attacked Triple H with a steel grate and then rushed him across the finish line in the gurney to retain the title.
Usually in a stretcher match, the loser is completely debilitated, but that wasn't the case here, as Triple H got back off the stretcher and attacked Orton with his sledgehammer as the show ended. | JustinShapiro

The Great Khali says, Khali has been a face since last fall.
Rey/Jericho was so good. I think it was Rey's best singles match in WWE.
Everything else was so not. The three title matches on the last two weeks of Raw were all significantly better than tonight's. Punk is an awesome heel though, not just the finish but his smirking throughout. | Psycho Penguin

| #8 Posted on 29.6.09 1003.02 Reposted on: 29.6.16 1003.04 | I thought the Rey Mysterio/ Chris Jericho match was the best match of the night. So many good spots such as when Rey went for a springboard and Jericho connected with the Codebreaker (and it looked like it connected).
The CM Punk/ Jeff Hardy match was okay; I think these 2 in the future are more than capable of putting on a really good match. The WWE has been toying with the audience if CM Punk is going to stay face or go towards heel. Based on Smackdown and last night at the Bash, it seems that Punk is gearing more towards heel but you never know right now.
Getting back to the Punk/ Hardy match, it was good but I think the ending was okay because it still puts questions in the minds of the WWE universe of which side Punk is more towards but at the same time, I think the ending could have (should have) had Punk win and still gain some heel heat because it wasn't his fault for the match re-start when the ref noticed his foot outside under the rope. Since Hardy is gone for who knows how long, you could have had Punk do a GTS and "be the reason" why Jeff Hardy is MIA or some other way to use a storyline why Jeff is out.
The ECW scramble match was better than I expected. I can't say I am surprised with the final outcome with Dreamer retaining. Pretty good match overall.
The rest of the PPV was okay. The only other match worth mentioning is the surprise of Edge and Jericho winning the tag belts. The match itself was pretty good but having 2 main-eventers win the tag titles does nothing for the division and makes Priceless look less credible because they are Orton's "lackies" and still look second-rate. Carlito and Primo are a good tag team and I honestly don't think it hurts them too much because I see them tag champs again and relatively soon.
The Orton/ HHH match almost made me fall asleep. The first 2 parts were Trips pretty much dominating Orton and even into the third match until Priceless came out and provided Orton a needed distraction to retain the title. And Trips of course came back and got the final blow on Orton with the sledgehammer to the face.
Overall, not too terrible but the PPV was just below par with some of the finishes and matches.

| #10 Posted on 29.6.09 1200.11 Reposted on: 29.6.16 1200.28 | I had a really good time watching this show and it wasn't until after the fact that I realized that pretty much every match sucked except one.
ECW scramble: Finlay needs his old music back. Dreamer shouldn't have been announced as the "new" champion. I still like Striker and Mathews on commentary. I liked the last-minute scramble when everyone tried to pin everyone else. I also liked the little dance Mark Henry did when he came out. Overall, this was fine, I suppose.
Jericho/Mysterio: Match of the night by such a wide margin, it's not even funny. In fact, in my uneducated, ill-informed opinion, I'd say it's the second-best WWE match of the year, behind Shawn/Undertaker. Go out of your way to see this.
Ziggler/Khali: Surprisingly could not live up to Jericho/Mysterio. Once again, a guy allegedly being pushed gets shoved aside in favour of a REAL star (see also: MVP/Batista; Miz/Big Show; DiBiase and Rhodes/whoever they share the screen with).
Tag title three-way: The crowd was really fun. The match itself was boring. Carlito is really really bad.
McCool/Melina: I never once looked at Michelle McCool's face. I could tell you nothing about this match except that I gave it five stars.
Jeff/Punk: I loved the ending of this so hard. The sadness on the ref's face when he realized that he had been kicked was wonderful. The match itself was meh.
Cena/Miz: Oh fuck you.
Hunter/Orton: I'm not sure how hellish those three stages really were. The first two were super short and the third one had all those fun stretcher rides. Not that I wanted this match to be any longer. I don't like Triple H and I think stretcher matches are stupid. Triple H can go away forever anytime now, and he can take Kane and Batista with him. | Broncolanche

Edge's hair looked a lot darker than it usually does.
The crowd during the Triple Threat tag match sounded like they wanted to cheer for Edge and Jericho.
Nice that they're fully pulling the trigger on the DiBiase turn. RIght in time for the movie release, too.
Why couldn't they let Cena lose that one to Miz? He didn't need the win.
Khali/Ziggler was fun until Kane returned. Snore.
Scott Armstrong owned all with THAT LOOK. Shades of Shane Sewell there!
Michelle McCool...mmmmmmm....
I wanna see more CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy. Bonus props for Hardy going apeshit after the match. Incredible.
I knew they were gonna pull the "second mask" with Mysterio when the mask he wore to the match looked loose.
All in all, not a bad PPV to purchase. Glad I did. | CajunMan

Yeah it was; Miz got like a couple moves in but Cena delivered the "Attitude Adjustment" (it's still the FU to me) while Miz couldn't even counter it the first time like so many other superstars do. And then the STF was locked on and it was over in like 8 mins give or take. The match made Miz look like nothing. | KJames199

They could have given Ziggler a clean win, or had him steal a win on his own, or do anything to look like less than a jobber, really. Instead, Khali tossed him around until a real star, Kane, came in for no reason and beat up Khali in a way Ziggler was shown as being unable to do. Ziggler may have won, but he looked worthless in the process. Just like how MVP got beat up trying to make the save on Raw a few weeks ago, but Batista was able to clean house with no trouble. Or how Miz got in Cena's face, but disappeared without mention when Big Show came out. Whether they mean to do so or not, WWE is very blatant about telling you who does and does not matter. Star-wise, they're hurting, and it's only going to get worse, but they seem so reluctant to really build anyone up. | Mayhem
