I'm getting double and triple clicks when clicking on a topic on this site today. I don't think its my server or computer because other sites are not doing it, just this one. Is it anything to be worried about?

Chris changed something.

It's not double clicking, it's loading two or three things. You are getting the load noise in IE as each one ends.

I can't figure out what it is or I'd fix it.

There was an affiliate link thingy in the footer of the page that has been there for years, but I'm not sure it was working ever. I just commented it out and it is now no longer doing the odd loading behaviour.

//Edit: I don't know why I never saw this happen before last night, this code hasn't changed in a really long time.

Ummmm, wait....you deleted the thing that makes the Amazon links work. I'm putting it back in. If there's a problem, let's get on Amazon to fix it because it must be something they just changed.

Well,

Here's the thing.

Either disable the navigation noise in IE - or use Firefox. I can't tell you that this is new this weekend, but I can tell you I can't fix it in IE. It is annoying. It's part of the Amazon code we use for the mouseovers on the deals.

If Amazon wasn't help us keep this server running, I'd consider disabling it.

Is it still happening to you guys? I just fired up IE6 here at work to test things and I'm not reproducing what you'd reported. I'm wondering if something changed or if it's just that I'm force into using an ancient IE...

Yes, I still get the initial page load sound, then a second page load sound as the last part of the page loads - where the A affiliate code is loading.

Could be worse. I loaded up IE (which I never use, it's the new version 8, wonder if that's the source of new reports of this) and it went to the default homepage, http://hp-laptop.aol.com/ . I ended up getting about 6 distinct clicks there.

It's still happening, like three/four times in a row now.

It's a feature!

/edit Ok, it started to bug me. (it is back down to two clicks instead of 3-4 now though) In case this is bugging anyone else:

Control Panel/Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices, then Sounds and Audio Devices, on the Sounds tab, scroll down to the section for Windows Explorer. Click the event called "Start Navigation," and change the setting to "none" from the dropdown box.

I didn't tell anybody, but earlier this week I added some code to only activate the A link enhancer stuff IF a post containing A links is displayed. So you might still encounter it on the MP3 or DVD threads, for example. Assuming it's still acting that way. I never recreated the issue so I have no idea.

(It *also* speeds up our page rendering time where the code isn't needed!)

Ah, it is still doing it there. It is not doing it anywhere else.

The pageload does feel much faster now.
