from Meltzer:

Steve Doll, best known as part of the tag team of the Southern Rockers, passed away earlier today at the age of 44.

Little details are available, although he had a major health scare a few years ago, and was taken off life support systems today.

Doll & Scott Peterson were the most popular tag team in the Pacific Northwest promotion of the 80s. Later, Rex King (Mark Smith) replaced Peterson on the team. Doll & Smith were used as a prelim tag team in the WWF in 1993 under the name Well Dunn. Smith wrestled as Timothy Well and Doll s Steven Dunn.

With King, they held the USWA tag team titles five times and the Northwest tag team titles four times.

A few years ago (2003 or so), I got an angry email from Steve Doll:

I was baffled. I'd actually liked Well Dunn, and I didn't know his other work, and had no idea when I would have said anything bad about him.

Then I figured it out - my personal website at the time was called "my boring website" (well, it was) and my so my wrestling tapelist was called "my boring tapelist." I'm guessing he Googled his own name and saw it on my tapelist. I wrote him back and we cleared things up. He wrote me back a few times:

Doll was in WCW in 1996-7, usually appearing on Saturday Night. He made a grand total of one appearance on WCW Monday Nitro - on 5/27/1996, his match against The Mauler (Mike Enos) went to no decision after some guy looking a lot like Razor Ramon came out through the crowd, interrupting the match, and started talking about taking over.

YouTubery: You don't get that, but you DO get:
Spoiler vs. Steve Doll, Portland, ? (youtube.com)
Well Dunn. vs. Smoking Gunns, RAW, 11/1/93
Steve Doll vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger (with Sonny Onoo), WCW Saturday Night, 5/18/96
