Sci-Fi changing it's name...to Syfy? (nytimes.com)

Much like the Spike logo change, or the American OLN changing names to Versus...probably won't do anything to their ratings...or will it?

Link to story that doesn't require registration (c-net)

Apparently it's so they can own a trademark.

Not impressed.

It looks like it's a nickname for a venereal disease. I shoulda wrapped it but I was too drunk and now I'm on antibiotics because of a bad case of the syfy.

Every story I've seen emphasizes that the name change will reflect the "broader" appeal of the channel's programming, which goes beyond simply science fiction ... They never mention the fact that ECW wrestling gives them their highest ratings, though (shocking!).
