So Leffler gets a five lap penalty but Jr. gets - another popularity award. Hrmmmm. Maybe by next week we can change that rule about having the car in the pit box when work gets done on it while we're at it.
Nah, I ain't mad at Dale. I do think Leffler kinda got screwed, though. | JayJayDean

That was the *80* car Stewart was driving? I kept forgetting. (And yeah - THAT was an AWESOME finish. I can't believe Kyle didn't wreck them OR close the deal there.)

I think Leffler's penalty was a bit much, but I think he got hammered because they were supposed to be "riding around" at that point of the Nationwide race, while (a) in the 500 with the rain looming they were NOT in "riding around" mode and (b) Junior got pushed below the yellow line, while Leffler was NOWHERE near the yellow line, and was just (allegedly) reacting to Wallace jumping up into a tight spot in front of him. | CajunMan

But seriously, I can't help but laugh at all the Junior apologists. Can you imagine what people would be saying today if Junior had thrown that ill-advised block and been spun by Vickers? I ask you, O Loyal Junior Nation, just how thick is Dale's Teflon coat? | JayJayDean

That door swings both ways, though. If Kyle Busch had been in Vickers' spot in that crash, there is no doubt who everyone would have rushed to blame. (Hint: Not Junior.) | supersalvadoran

| #9 Posted on 17.2.09 0021.11 Reposted on: 17.2.16 0022.48 | If Junior was really like his old man, he would have no problem owning up to the crash and let it be known as a warning to the others and I (and I think most people) wouldn't have had as much a problem with his actions. Instead, he only offered up whiny excuse after whiny excuse. He just sounded like the spoiled brat who didn't get his way because he didn't follow the rules and wanted them changed for his convenience("WAAH! I was only a inch over the line! They shouldn't penalize me a lap for that! WAAH!").
I actually like Junior and think he can be a championship contender. But winning once in 99 sprint cup races and winning irrelavant popularity awards doesn't exactly allow him to do whatever he wants. He just needs to shut up about Daytona and show he can win again on a consisent basis before he starts to become just another driver in the eyes of many people. | Oliver

Note to Junior: You're not your father. Your father was a brilliant driver who was taken from us way too quickly. But being an Earnhardt doesn't mean you're automatically a championship caliber driver: sometimes even the best training and pedigree doesn't guarantee success. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
