Woohoo! I don't know what will be better, the Lions making history or the Packers losing at home in December to (statistically) the worst defense EVER.

As a recent convert to the NFL, I am intrigued by all the playoff permutations for today, but the Lions' story is intriguing in and of itself.

I hope the Lions do find a way to win, I wouldn't wish 0-16 upon anyone.

How quickly things change. Midway through last season, the 6-2 Lions hosted the 6-2 Giants. After the Giants get a narrow victory, that noted sage John Kitna states that the Lions are still better than the Giants. Since then, the Giants won a Super Bowl and a #1 seed. The Lions have won 1 game against the Chiefs, without which they would be very close the Bucs 26 game losing streak. Congratulations to the Lions for accomplishing what no one thought possible in the era of parity, especially for a non-expansion team, going 0-fer. Now, get off Thanksgiving Day.

Gotta hand it to the Lions; they don't believe in doing anything halfway. I think my high school football team would push them to a really good game.

If Matt Millen ever gets a job in the NFL, somebody should be murdered. How he could build a team this inept is b eyond me.

There's an NFL rule that each team must be in at least one "marquee matchup". So, you can keep the Lions at 12:30pm EST on Turkey Day when you're too busy preparing dinner to care or move the Lions to Turkey Day night on NFL network where no one will see them or the NFL should force the Lions to make changes. I hope they bring in a GM that can do something with the #1 overall pick and with the first round pick they got from Dallas for Roy. Something tells me they're going to keep Lewand and Mayhew though (both Millen lackeys even though Lewand runs Ford's Field so he doesn't have say in football operations, I think).

They are bad but I imagine the worst NFL team could beat the best Div. I team and it wouldn't be close.

Overall, in spite of going 0-16, they seemed to at least keep on trying. Same with the Chiefs, they played hard. The browns on the other hand didn't and that is whay the house cleaning was necessary.

But those of us with sucky teams take heart after seeing what the Falcons and Dolphins have done. Probably those two teams along with what the Pats did are the stories of the season.

What they should do is just rotate the Thanksgiving Day game between ALL the NFL teams. What makes the Lions and Cowboys so special? The Chiefs got that third game a few seasons ago and it was pretty cool for Chiefs fans. Those that had the NFL network at least! ;)

Absolutely agree!

This isn't just a fluke. The Lions have been horrible for years and years. They don't deserve it.

And there goes Rod Marinelli, not letting the door hit him on the way out, I'm sure.

You can bet he'll never work as a coach again.

No, there isn't. Atlanta, for example, wasn't scheduled in any "marquee matchup" this year.

As for anyone suggesting the game get rotated to all teams -- no thanks. I'd rather not have to be at Lambeau on Thanksgiving.

So instead of searching outside the organization for help, the Lions elevate from within for a President and a GM? Only 9 losses to tie, 10 losses to beat the Bucs 26 game losing streak.
As for the marquee matchup rule, I think that disappeared when they developed the flex schedule for Sunday Night.

Isn't that the point of the late NFL network, to get the game rotated between the other 30 teams?

Edit, additional from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Thanksgiving_Classic#1970.E2.80.93present

Since 2006, three contests have been played on Thanksgiving. In addition to the traditional Detroit and Dallas home afternoon games, a third game is now played in primetime and televised by NFL Network. This game has been played at Kansas City (2006), at Atlanta (2007), and at Philadelphia (2008). Current plans call for the various NFL teams (other than the Lions and Cowboys) to take turns hosting the night game on a rotation basis.

One game may be all the difference, but Cam-Cam-Cam Cameron (Thank God you don't play the accordian)* got a job as an OC and is in the playoffs.

Oh man, I just realized that they missed a really golden opportunity to capitalize on this right after the game ended:

Announcer: Dan Orlovsky, you have just quarterbacked the Detroit Lions to a winless record, the first 0-16 season in NFL history! What are you going to do now?

Orlovsky (dejectly): I'm going to Euro Disney.
